like most tottenham fans i have a certain affection for mr jol, our saviour, but his actions lately are making no sense to me whatsoever!we are signing carlton cole for 2 million right..and everyone including gary mabbutt is saying defoe will now have to leave to secure is england spot. so wev bought a crap player for a quality one in defoe!makes shit all sense. another thing..... barnard is a great young player now how the f*** is he going to get experience if we jst keep buying new strikers, the same goes for peckhart and the young irish lad. the same situation goes for the midfield, way too many centre midfielders but tons of youngsters in need of experience, and what do we do?we buy more of them!in january we offloaded some cms in davis and mendes(who was world class) and bought murphy who is not any better and ghaly who iv never seen play. our "developement" is a sham because hardly any of the talent will be utilised with them rotting in the reserves. if u want my opinion.....bring through huddleston and get rid of davids, try and buy ribery and bridge for the left side and leave it at that. let youingsters like peckhart and barnard get some starts up front with defoe and keane otherwise theyll do nothing.
please let me no what u think!

I would only rate Barnard as a uselful reserve, not great. As we are now in Europe, we need a bigger squad of experienced players. Our outstanding youngsters like Hudd will still get the chance to develop, probably in the earlier rounds of the domestic cups. Who knows if they catch fire like Lennon did when called upon for first team duty, they could force their way into the league side.

they've probably decided that barnard and hammy aren't good enough and so they bought cole. I like him and think he's worth a chance, he just needs developing a bit, but he's only 22. I don't think it will make any difference to defoe if he goes elsewhere, as he's always going to be second string to owen. He's not getting picked for england because of his stature i think, not his abilities. The other thing to look at is we'll have a new england manager soon, so he may be back in favour anyway, and also if he's frequently a sub for us, it will in all likelyhood be how he's utilised for england, so if anything showing a good attitude from the bench might help him. he'll be adding euro experience next year so he's gonna improve again. peckhart and dixon will be used in the academy with a possible bump up to ressies if hammy or barnard leave or go on loan.

Hammy is very skillful for a big man and I hope we keep him.

dont we always do that to the majority of our own promising youngsters ??
give them a few games then dump them on some lower division team for next to nothing, thing is can anyone name one of them who has gone on to better themselves since we dumped them ? ?so maybe we know what we're doing , just be nice to get a bit more dough for them.

Don't think we'll dump Hudd. He'll get his chance next season to play in more games than he did this.

hope so i rate him a lot, his first game when he came on early doors he didnt give the ball away at all until the 89th minute , and that included not just simple sideways short passes but plenty of quality in there. And he always looks assured at u21 level.

now we havent actually signed Cole yet but it appears a deal is immanent. this means that barney & Hammy may be loaned out but does not mean the end for them. nor does it harm the development of Dixon & Pekhart. it means we can continue to develop these players but we still have a strong and talented squad. i think Cole will be a good aquisition as he will go straight into the 1st team squad and when the younger strikers come through we can sell him on at a profit or if he has proved to be a gem then keep him and sell Barney on if it doesnt work. it should be a good move in theory

I particularly like the way he weighs his passes. Even if they don't find their marks, they're never too far off.

My view on this I feel is quite clear and simple.
When Jol took over we went from 14th the previous season, to UEFA challengers and 9th last season, to Champions League contenders and 5th. If we keep on making this progress, then he can do whatever the **** he wants.

it's still a good deal really at 2m. jeffers was 10m, johnson 8.5m. he's a giant of a guy with plenty to work with, and really exactly what we'd been looking for. he's also english, and if he goes on to produce like darren bent, he may find himself in the england set up before too long.

If the reserves are good enough they are going to get a game no matter who we bring in before them, competion for places can only ever be a good thing in football. Period. If the youngsters want to procced in the game they have to prove they are a better option that the current players! Better current players naturally means better reserves! Everyone's a winner, especially the mighty spurs!

But what about the left-sided youngsters we have? If we sign Bridge and Ribery when will they get their chance? When are we going to stop buying players and give our under-14s a chance to play! ;)

Indeed. We're showing such clear signs of progress, i have faith in Jol's decision making.

My stance is this. I don't give a shit if he signs Cole, (ideally I'd say no) as long as Defoe is still here next season. If Cole's arrival causes Defoe to leave, then I will be an angry angry man.

But what if Defoe is leaving for another completely unrelated reason?

I have complete faith in M.J., we will need a bigger squad next season with all the extra games the youngsters will get a chance and if they are good enough they will progress. I have seen lots of reserve team youngsters not make the step up to first team quality, and we need to have experianced players on the bench if we are to be successfull.

But Defoe hasn't said he wants to go. So up to now it's still speculation.
