Curtis bid has been rejected and Cerny will never get a game so............:D

I'm guessing we will need to bid closer to £5 mil for Davies as WBA paid £3 mil less than a year ago. He's make a good addition to the squad however I was impressed with Davenport on his rare outings last season and my thoughts on Gardner remain unchanged (thought his performances towards the end of the season vindicaed my view of him).

As for Chimbonda I remain unconvinced that he is he answer to our right back trouble. He may be quick and strong with an eye for a rampaging run but I'm not overly thrilled at his defensice attributes. He seems to make a lot of interceptions but very few tackles which is ok if you're Michael Carrick but not great if you harbour ambitions of becoming the French national right back.

the Davies bid has been rejected and if we are keeping Gardner & Davenport as back up centre-backs then there is no need to buy him. i thought that when we extended the Cerny deal it was stilla loan agreement so we cant offer him as a swap. it looks as though the Chimbonda deal looks dead in the water so hopefully we will sign another right back or keep Stephen Kelly.

It's now said the gooners are also after Davies and are likely to be more appealing to him.

I'd sign Davies and get rid of Gardner.

Good point, I think you are correct. Just goes to show how much research is done by the muppets who dream up these rumours.

Surely you mean that the Goons are more appaling to him?!

It's said that the arse wenker offers him the chance of striking up a partnership with troure.

Partnership or relationship?

if he had the choice of spurs or 'the others', surely as a young british player who has seen the success enjoyed by dawson, robbo, carrick, lennon, jenas etc this season, he'd chose spurs, knowing it would be better for his long term career.

then again he might get an automatic start for 'them', but i doubt that, merely because id expect arse-face to buy some crap french or african kid, like adebayor, diaby, flamini, cygan or eboue.

plus, we'll finsih above them 'next' season so he's got a better chance of success with spurs.

Zokora's agent has been saying that Spurs are a very interesting team at the moment. I would imagine that most players will look at us in a different light to the others now.

news just in...reports frm holland suggest we are interested in a deal for left wing/forward ryan babel frm ajax and a deal could be arranged if davids went the other way.

i knew nothing of ryan babel until yesterday, having watched some video clips (see other forum) he looks very very good. Good enough to cost a lot of money.

i wouldn't come to spurs if i was davies, he'd hardly get a game behind ledders.
I still don't understand where hudds fits into this. Hope he doesn't get shut out.

spurs61
24th May 2006, 02:37 PM
That Babel is going to be quality, very much in the same mould as Jefferson Farfan of PSV adn worth an investment. I don't think he has pledged his international future to Holland which may mean another one of these blokes that goes to the African Nations every other year.

BTW, I hear that Hudds will be sold this summer as he can't see a way past Carrick, I think he should have had more games last season and I don't blame him for his frustration. Any player who's passing ability is admired by Glenda has to be worth hanging on to and we should be playing upwards of 45-50 games next season.

I saw Babel in the clip posted by amember. He looks very strong on the ball, but seems to play mostly on the right side, and looks very right-footed. Like the way he comes from deep and muscles his way into shooting positions.

spurs61
24th May 2006, 03:20 PM
He is right footed, that's what makes him so lethal on the left wing. He cuts inside defenders and leaves tham for dead, he a quick bastard as well. He'd be perfect top learn alongside Denilsen but I'm sure that's just wishful thinking.

Chinaman

But is Denilson now up to the rigours of the PL?

No, I don't think so, but he'd be great against the "footballing" sides. I can't see him turning out a performance on a cold wet Wednesday night in Blackburn (add any other cliche you wish;) ) but given a bit of space he'd murder most right backs in the league.

My mistake, he's in the Dutch World Cup sqaud, so if we are serious then we need to snap him up now before he becomes one of the young stars of the summer.

We've been quite quiet as far as a winger is concerned.

if he's a striker or a right-winger then why would we buy him for the left of our midfield. we have plenty of midfielders who can cut in from the left on their favoured right foot what we want is a natural left footed winger to cross in some balls for the front men

Chinaman
24th May 2006, 04:13 PM
I don't mind him playing like Gudjohnson. He's so strong on the ball. But he's not the one to take the ball to the left byeline and whip in a cross with his left peg.

spurs61
24th May 2006, 04:13 PM
Yeah, it concerns me a bit that we seem to have spent the period after signing Dimi looking at reinforcing the squad rather than improving the first team. I have no problem with looking at player like Curtis Davies but surely we should be spending this time attempting to solidify the left side of the team? I can only conclude that Messrs Levy and Jol have resolved the left side issue in some way although it appears that Reid has been told that he does have a role (ham roll?) to play next season.

Sorry, this should have followed Chinaman's post at 17:06

They should hire some sprint coach to train him.

He is first and foremost a "support striker" and although he is right footed his other position is left wing but he can whip in a decent cross from the left.

(I should probably point out that I am an Ajax fan)

are you?what can you tell me about nicolae Mitea then , is he rated

shoot_ffs

regarding babel his left peg looks pretty useful and he scores a cracking goal with it on the vids, while playing at left wing. he's as close to two footed as you could ask for really, like robben. I've watched a bit of the dutch footy on channel 5 this year, and haven't been too impressed with kalou and castelen on the left, or much on the right for that matter. I was really surprised too see how good babel looked, and think if we don't snap him up before the world cup, he'll cost near 20m after. he's as good as robben.

Oh yes! Apparently he is very highly rated and the coaching staff think that he has the potential to be the next Pavel Nedved. I think he's too lightweight and under commited, a season in the Championship would do him the world of good.

Spot on mate, Castellan is just SHIT, has to be the most over rated Dutch player since Willem Korsten. Spot on about Babel as well, he is gonna be a superstar by the end of next season, we need to sign him NOW!

I disagree about Kalou (unless we are talking about his useless older brother) he's another one in the Babel/Farfan mould but I fear there are larger clubs sniffinf around him. If we are looking at Babel then I would assume that we are also looking at Farfan.

No-one else spotted that after our Chimbonda bid got rejected we go for Davies...? The same Davies that paled a bit at right-back for Luton...

He is not a good player, but stuck at right-back he may make less silly mistakes and actually be a half decent player. Other than that I think Curtis Davies is crap. Nowhere near Ledders or Daws. Nowhere.
