View Full Version : Didier Zokora or Gareth Barry?

If Edgar Davids leaves the club there are reports he'll be replaced by either Didier Zokora or Gareth Barry. Personally i'd prefer Barry, he's a seriously versatile under-rated player and could be a real decent first teamer if he gets the chance to play for a top team. He has a wealth of premiership experience at the age of only 24, he is also a lifelong spurs fan.
I have to admit knowing next to nothing about Zokora, so it may be unfair to choose Barry over him, but i have always thought Barry had class and he would also add to our young english backbone.
Does anyone know anything about Didier Zokora?

Barry is a decent player... If he was at Spurs he would have had a shot at the england squad by now....

Never seen Zokora play so I can't really comment

Can't comment on Zakora but reckon Barry would be a nice signing. LEFT footed and versatile. Consistent performer in a crap team.Good addition I think

Have only seen Zakora once, but heard a lot about him... From what i've seen and heard he's very similar to Essien... He's a two-way midfielder, who's hard tackling, aggresive and has a good shot...
Not sure which one of them I prefer. Barry is a proven premiership player, and I thought he was about 30 or so... I feels like he's been playing in the premiership for 10 years or so...

barry is ok but with the direction we are heading we need to look higher than barry ! i watched zokora twice in the ACON and in 1 word is is quality and he is a different class to barry and in my book would be a regular in the team with carrick !

Yeah I'm with the G-Unit dude, Zokora is a top quality player and I think we should be aiming higher than Barry. If he was that good he would have been lured away from the shite side that is Aston Villa years ago.

barry is a solid performer, but doesn't bring anything new to our squad. He's too slow to play left back and although has a different style to reidy, they would supply crosses and shots so are much the same. I would rather hang on to ziegler than buy barry. I'm not sue if zokora is a centre mid or not, but if he is what does that mean for ghaly. It's just getting weird in the centre positions. I still expect and want davids and murphy to go. One attacking and one versatile lefty would do it for our midfield.

Agree with shoot ffs that we need attacking leftie.

Doesn't everyone think we need an attacking leftie? I thought it was a priority.

I'd take both, although I would imagine that if we are truly interested in Zorka we are looking at Davids' exit from the club, I can't see any room for Zorka in an already congested midfield. Barry would be an excellent signing and can cover left back and left midfield as well as playing central positions but I'm not sure what his best position is.

Did I not see somewhere that Zakora will cost approx £10 million ??? A bit much is it not ??

there doesn't seem to be a lot of info about him, Arsenal and Man Utd are apparently after him too.

The fact that three of the top 5 sides in england are after him can only push his price up, thank god chelsea arent in the race!

ive seen a bit of Zokora and he looks like he could do something for us. he's a bit like Pap Bouba Diop at Fulham only better. yes he's expensive but we need to speculate to accumulate. he will be worth the money we pay for him, should we buy him however i dont think it will happen this season as we need a left midfielder & 2 full backs or 1 if stephen kelly stays and possibly another striker. he could be one to sign in january or next summer

If he don't come here this summer then he'll go somewhere. His agent stated that he's agreed with St Etienne that he can leave 'for the right price', and that he will use the world cup to impress. He'll have a good opportunity too, what with Argentina and Holland in the same group.

yes but could we really afford to sign him on top of Berbatov and all the other players we need to sign

He's not a priority. We need a cultured leftie quick.

very good players been readin reports from man u wanted him.. watch him in world cup 4 urself.. i jus think to go up a level we need players who want to play at a high level....that level means players have to have ability to hold ball and retain possesion an to be able to take on players.. create out of nothin shoot score... dont think barry got that in locker...half the boys wenger bought are not household names but are athletes very mobile and ball manipulators... very good with ball at feet... then he coaches them to the way he wants them to play... feck arsenal anyway... but the french academies adopt this regime from boys are very young... and the results we see for ourselves... french players can come and play here havin adapted to prem conditions.. but of recent we dont see much british youth plying their trade in france,,bring on didier zakora

I've seen Zakora and he is an excellent player, however I certainly wouldn't buy him as we need a left-winger. Preferably Morten.

I hope we sign them both, wishful thinking!

I think we'll be fine with the strikers now as long as Defoe stays.

I'd like to see two of the following signed:
D'Alessandro
Zokora
Pedersen

And Chimbonda as the final signing.

from the times today:

Didier Zokora’s agent has claimed that the Ivory Coast midfield player will join Tottenham from Saint-Etienne after the World Cup. However, Franck Belhassen has previously linked his player, who has a contract until 2009, to Arsenal and Manchester United.

I thought zokora was a big guy but he's not according to the times world cup thingy 1.8m tall (5'9")

I saw bits of Zokora in the African Nations. He's considered to be one of, if not the best players in their team. I would much rather have him than Barry who is about as quick as Jimmy Tarbuck.

so is he a left winger or as left sided player??

as for the height i just did a conversion on google and it said 5'9". Yer sorry i used decimal, it just under 5'11".

Zokora is a defensive midfielder

well we have carrick, tainio, ghaly and hudds, two of which aren't getting games, is that not enough??

He would be a Davids replacement, and a very good one. I think he supports the attack more than Davids though, so it could be ideal. We have the world cup to decide whether its worth pursuing.

Chinaman

But if we decide after he's had a good WC, others might move in and raise the price.

Forgot to mention not very impressed with Barry. We should stop buying run-of-the-mill type of players.

Agree, he'd be a at a good team already if he could cut it.
