View Full Version : Jermain Defoe

With all the speculation surrounding him, and the constant rumours, it's hard to keep up with the fans' opinion. So I'm posting this poll to find out the truth...
...Defoe. Should he stay or should he go?
Feel free to include your opinions on the matter :D

There is no option for "not overly fussed" obviously providing he is replaced.
Having said that I'm not sure it's possible to replace him, where else can we find a short-arsed, lazy git with a serious attitude problem and a god complex.

I want him to stay because i know he will score plenty of goals if he gets a chance at spurs... Plus he will score goal if he join a top 6 club and that will hurt us in our hunt for the 4. spot...

he has shown signs of genius while he has been with us and martin jol has been quoted of saying "he can score in every match this season" i think he is class and people should give him more of a chance. i actually think we play better football with him and robbie up front

Well that made me laugh, but I to voted for him to stay. I think him and Cole could be class together if Cole ever signs, but I wouldn't be to disappointed if he left and we replaced him with someone like say Cisse.

I'm not entirely sure what JD'd height has got to do with this. Does his lack of height preclude him from doing any hard work or passing the ball to his team mates when inside the last third of the pitch?

We need to keep Defoe, he is quality, english and we could not replace him with the same quality for the price we could expect to ge for him! He knows the prem and he knows the way we play! He has to stay!

He didn't look the same player after the first two months of the season. Defoe came out of the blocks on fire this season and picked up where he left off from the previous season. I'm can't put my finger on it but it appeared to me that he spent the rest of the season "going through the motions".
I don't think Jermain is the sort of player who is "figured out" by defences, he's too clever and his improvisation is second to none but there is certainly something wrong with him. It may be that he has had the world cup on his mind but I don't think that explains his abject performances this season. It is a mystery and I suspect one which will remain until Defoe elects to leave the club.

Him being so short means he can never be a complete forward and will always be a one dimensional player. In saying that though he can be amazingly good at poaching goals when he decides to focus on that which he is good at instead of trying to become something he's not.

well owen is only 5'8" and it hasn't stopped him. Defoe is not one dimensional, he just doesn't have height. He finishes well, two good feet, pacey, skillful and clever with regards to his occupying defenders, which is probably his best asset. I think he's been easier to mark this year as the team has been unbalanced and until lennon's upsurge, had few forward outlets to deal with.

He's good with the ball on the ground, and has nothing to offer in the air. When he focuses on poaching goals he can be lethal, but when he doesn't he may as well stay home. Owen is ok, but I don't rate him as highly as most he was a flop at Real.

keonoldinho you clearly havent got a clue what you are talking about on this and most other threads that you appear on.
Owen a flop at Real??? they didnt pick him cos their ex president insisted on playing the old glacticos , not cos he didnt score . He scored a great many goals in relation to the minutes he spent on the pitch.
As for your thoughts on Defoe, well clearly you dont like him, hence your name on here, but attitude wise he was no worse than Keane was last season , he had **** Rasiak picked infront of him simply cos hes a lanky git , would you really want him to sit there all humble and take it, he totally belives in himself thats why hes got that sort of attitude , he passes regularly, watch all this seasons goals to see how many he has set up again in relation to how many minutes he spent on the pitch , then come back to us when you know what youre on about.

To see if Owen was a flop we should look at his goalscoring record, if memory serves correct I remember it as pretty good. I for one would welcome a swap Defoe for Owen. Owen is a great player, simple as.
As for Defoe, he can be great, he isn't always great, and when he isn't he is not a good player, as seen with the last few months I think...

Well my bad I didn't know you were romantically involved with Defoe and Owen, but you need to pipe it down a bit there young fella.
Owen is a very good player, but not great and has never scored 20+ league goals in a season. At Real Madrid he made 30 odd appearances and scored 13 goals which is not good enough when you've got Zidane, Beckham, and Figo given you through balls all game.
As for my thoughts on Defoe, well young one I liked the kid alot when he first came even though he's a gooner at heart infact I liked him more than Keano, because he was a young and talented Englishman. This season it's been very clear he's not devoted to the club and is just picking up a paycheck hence his sub standard performances especially when coming of the bench he's been dreadful. He spent the same ammount of minutes as Keano on the pitch maybe even afew more but you already knew that.
Now youngster go pick up all your toys and put them back in your pram before your mum comes home and gives you a good shoen;)

Him being French means most of us yids feel obligated to hate him. I mean England and France were fighting for centuries before ze germans came along and Spurs is English while the scum are French. I just think Cisse could be class, because in his last 2 seasons at Auxerre before moving to scouse land and breaking his leg he was banging them in for fun.

there's only one way to settle it FIGHT!! Sorry too much harry hill. I think it's interesting with this defoe thing, i've never heard the pundits on MOTD put defoe down, and they usually bitch about anyone who isn't performing. The fact that kuyt is alledgedly begging to newcastle shows we have our strikers sorted, and also that he's a money grabber rather than a career man. Who in their right mind would go to newcastle when half of europe have been chasing you. What's dutch for dimwit? I'm glad really as i think he's poor value at anything over 8m, and he'll probably go nearly double that.

I think that's a brilliant return for a player who's confidence must have been shot to pieces as he tried his best, did nothing wrong, and became the victim of footballing politics. Also I think it's worth noting that he was sold for Double what RM paid, even if it was to Newcastle.

Barce have Eto'o, Real have Robinho, Inter have Martins, Juve have Del Piero. They're all relatively small by todays standards, yet are all highly sought after. I don't see where height ever became an issue.

I believe he wants to play here. He hasn't handed in a transfer request or publicly stated that he wants to play elsewhere. We have to keep him, I will be gutted to see him go. I really think that if Defoe never joined this club we wouldn't have made as much progress as we have, in his first season he was uncontrollable, slammin them in for fun, and this season his presence has not only brought some (i know its a small tally) important goals and look what the competition did to Keane.....

that's a good point about pressuring the other strikers, which is a compliment to the strikers aswell as the coach. look at liverpools strikers bitching and ruud spitting his dummy out because now he has some competition. I think there was a lot of progress in the players mentality last year, king stopped looking worried, and keane and defoe wanted to play for the team. There was a lot of talking or signing with the bench during games to change tactics, and the players seem to enjoy being empowered if that's the right word. I expect to see more progress as jol stamps his mark on the team this year.
