"Getafe coach Michael Laudrup has decided to rest Swiss international midfielder Fabio Celestini and Nigerian striker Ikechukwu Uche for the team's UEFA Cup match against Tottenham Hotspur at White Hart Lane on Thursday.
Romanian fullback Cosmin Contra and former Barcelona defender Mario will miss the trip because of injury."

Getafe are also 18th in La Liga mirroring our position. With 4 goals scored and 8 conceded in 8 games they struggle to score but aren't quite as porous as we are. Robinson is supposed to be out for the next 2 games and it will be interesting to see what strikers are picked. Bent and Defoe I'm guessing.

Oh yea, we have issues there too. Then main thing with us is that the players are too far apart though. You just can't play neat stuff in there and knit it together link it etc. with big gaps, nor can you defend correctly.

Liverpool fan on Betfair after we drew with them:

Really, for the first time, contemplating that Rafa might not be the man I thought he was.

I was one of the Reds lucky enough to have a pint with the great man, and fell in love with him immediately...the Champions League win was the icing on the cake. The man was God.

It's all fallen apart since. We're playing turgid football, utter dross - we have been since Evans left. Rafa doesn't seem to have a clue of his team, or tactics. And, in hindsight, under Ged we were a good Cup team too...and better domestically.

Really hope this passes and he comes through this hurdle, because I'm sitting here in tears. No idea what to do with myself.

That is just a step too far Berbs. We've all been through hard times with Spurs, but calling our brilliant stadium Shite Hart Lane? You sound just like a pikey fan.

As for Liverpool, I really can't stand the club or their manager. Amazing how they manage to stay so quiet after the Everton match, yet one bad decision against Chelsea and they kick up a massive fuss. Their arrogant fans and diving captain also really wind me up.

This really is a nothing game, Getafe are a dreadful side (although so were the Bubbles and they gave us a fright) so we really should be thinking about more about Sundays clash with Blackburn. Having said that I think it's about time we stuck with one strike partnership and allowed them time to gel over three or four games, it's no wonder only Robbie is scoring, none of the forwards are given a chance to form an understanding. The midfield needs to be totally revamped as well, it's no use playing Lennon, Malbranque and Jenas in the same side, it places too much responsibility upon the holding player (neither of who are good enough) and allows the opposition to attack with impunity knowing that none of our players are "ball winners".

I think it has become apparent that a Kaboul / Dawson axis at the centre of the defence is too brittle and inexperienced to cope with the rigours of Premiership football. It looks to me like Kaboul is a direct replacement for Dawson rather than King, there appears to be no understanding of who is marking whom and both of them want to be the "leader" in the defence which has caused chaos at the back. I'd be thinking about playing 3-5-2 to steady what is a very porous spine of the team. We are lacking quality width now that Bale is injured so why stick with a redundant formation? Surely it makes more sense to flood the midfield and deny the opposition space and time to attack the back line?

I'm afraid I agree with Spur's predicition, we'll comfortably beat Getafe, the players and coach will come out with the ususal "we've turned a corner" bullshit and then they'll go out and get stuffed by a far better organised Blackburn side. The question is, will the board have the guts to sack Jol given the lack of an obvious replacement? I for one will not be happy to see Clive Allen have an impossible task thrust upon him as caretaker having no experience.

These are depressing times at the Lane, we need a something to spark some hope...

A mighty fall. Favourites for 4th this season, we reside in 18th place, and have lost to a side in the same place in La Liga that had rested key attacking players. Getafe seemed superior to us during most of the game, mainly through their passing and organisation. I saw our first home defeat in Europe, to a struggling Madrid side that El Tel predicted couldn't score against us(Clemence fumbled it, not a "Perryman og"), and hadn't thought for a minute this "Madrid" side would repeat that. So it goes.

He's not playing, he can't affect the result. You want to see him looking miserable on the bench - how will that change anything? If he starts monkeying about on the pitch you might have a point, otherwise you're ill-informed.

You're an idiot because you called the ground "shite hart lane" and had been informed how upsetting that is to forumers.

...I hope you'll have a fresh approch over our future, and try to be a bit more positive now that Jol is out, as you have wanted for quite a while...

True. I wanted him sacked last year after losing to Arse**l and Chelski in cup ties. Those two games 2-2 to Arse and 3-3 to Chelski ( not to mention return leg vs Seville ) have shown Jol´s tactical inexperience, and with him as a manager we would never have won anything or climb to top four in the Premiership, cause in the crucial games he would be ( as he was ) tactically outclassed by other manager. I´m not decreasing his contribute in our 5th position over last two years, of course, he has to be congratulated first of all but that achievement was his peak at the moment, and I truly believe that with some "courageous" manager instead of him, we would have entered the top four or even lift "some" silverware...cause we have very, very talented squad...
The way we are playing from start of this season is totally embarrassed, and him being axed is justified...
let´s hope that Clive will manage to turn around this rubbish until Ramos is appointed as a manager...

Link for Hughton being gone please!

Tonight was really terrible. I was pleased to get a cheap ticket tonight, well worth keeping in contact with a new contact!

Tonight was rubbish, really rubbish. Disgraceful performance. Not a sell out tonight, far from it, many empty seats. Didn't feel like a Spurs game at all. Supporters all knew, especially at half time on their mobiles. "Stand up for Martin Jol" was ringing out, boo's at the end for the players, another cheer for the manager but he never re-apperaed.

Can someone just please explain what has been said by Sky / ITV about what actually happened. I hear Clive Allen gave a short interview can someone clarify please!

Still waiting for any official soundbites spur.

Conflicting reports on whether he resigned before the game or was sacked. One unnamed senoir player said comolli said his contract was terminated, not sure if thats a sacking or a mutual consent type thing. Clive is taking training tomorow.

the next hour or so should be interesting though!

Spur

I think he was definately pushed, Dragon just said it again, said he had it confirmed again just then.

That's what my friend heard too, there is no doubt that he was sacked IMO, if they say he resigned it is for his own benefit no question. My friend who watched on TV said Jol seemed very angry all game...? From where I was he never got out of his seat all game it seemed. For the normal chants where he stands up and waves over, he stuck his hand up in the air, he knew he was going and he's been pushed 100% IMO.

It was and both Madrid clubs. Did you get that one? ;)

Would have been more resounding if we'd been competing against credible European clubs in the past 15 years, unlike in 85 when a poor Madrid side beat us through some Clemence fumbling.

Yep, Daws and Kaboul are simply to inexperienced to play together, they both go for the same balls, Getafe's 2nd goal was shockingly bad from both of them, but mainly culpable was Younes "that'll be the ball then" Kaboul

When King was with him yes. Last year he was playing on his instincts, the problem is that both he and Kaboul have the same instincts thus do not complement each other as a partnership. In King's absence, Kaboul should be partnered with Rocha and Dawson with Gardner.

This is a good call, well the starting him at CM. Dunno for certain who'd best partner him. But he looks more comfortable there to me, assured on the ball and everything Zokora aint as a DM. Maybe Steed with him in the centre?

SurreySpur

I think Kaboul would compliment JJ in the middle. They'd both cover a lot of ground and wouldnt give the oppo any time on the ball. Kaboul is a very intimidating figure and that could be a real bonus in the middle of the park, he reminds me of a young desailly, strong, confident, good on the ball, and built like a brick shit house!

Just a bit down but glad this is all over. Emotion often clouds judgement, but starting to feel quite excited by Ramos coming. TBH I think this is part of problem for most, Martin Jol is so likeable but many also recognise it had to happen for us to push on.
