Michael Dawson has been called up to the England World Cup squad as a stand-by. He's been imense this season and this call-up is well deserved and should have happened months ago.

Totally agree! The man is a leg-end! However, i am quite suprised Ledder's has been over looked, i thought he was back to match fitness!

excellent news for Daws, he totally deserves it and yeah i thought King was back to match fitness. surely he would be picked ahead of daws if he was

Perhaps he's not fit! I can't understand the decision if not!

think sven must be considering using carragher as cover for right back and daws as cover for centre. Would still have taken ledders even if it meant him paying centre right. Anyone know if the players have to be like for like positional replacements in order to be brought in from standby? so if hargreaves is injured he can't bring defoe in? hey atleast i'm trying lol.

If Daws ends up going to Germany it'll be such a great experience for him and he'll really benefit from playing at the absolute highest level, but most of all we'll benefit next season. Dawson has the potential to be a true Tottenham Legend.

Lets hope Carragher pullsa hamstring then, so Daws can get the experience to push him on !!

i think if a player gets injured sven can replace him with who he pleases so its not like for like. if daws is included ahead of king it either means svens seen sense and is going to take ledders instead of campbell or king isnt yet fit. daws would play in the centre and carragher will be the utility man as he can play anywhere along the back 4.

Very happy for Dawson, though he should have been called-up anyway, The only defender who is clearly outstanding from the rest in the England squad is Terry. I would say Captain King but he hasnt been picked. My first choice full-fit England back 2 would definately be King and Terry. Hope Dawson gets the chance though.

id like daws to come into the squad proper in place of that waste of space campbell

Looks like campbell's off the fenerbache. He'll be sadly missed!
It would be great to have six Spurs players in a world cup game.

i sort of hope he stays at arsenal as he will be majorly exposed next season for the shite useless player he has come to be

An England tournament campaign isn't complete without a disallowed goal from Campbell! :p

Reo Coker isn't going and now Phil Neville is in as back up.
Be afraid, be very afraid.
Great news for Dawson who has been exceptional.

I think this WC is too soon for Daws - he's had a great season this year, but he's still too young and inexperienced to represent IMO. However, if he and JD went we would have 6 players in the squad! How good is that!

It was great when they showed the England squad training on Sky today as in the background you could count six Yiddo's taking part. And the thing is, they should all be in the squad and pushing the first teamers for a place too!

When you are good enough it is time. He should have been chosen in the first place as there is no one except Terry who attacks the ball in the air.

On form, and full fitness... the four centre halves should be Terry, King Dawson and Carragher. I'd also take Rio for the experience he has.

To put it lightly, Rio, King and Terry are the best three, then Carra then Dawson. On form it should be Ledders and Terry.

I agree - unfortunatley Mr Ericson has a penchant for Rio and seems not to realise that an unfit Ledders is still one of the best defenders in the world!

I'd agree too. Eriksson seems to have some kind of alergy to playing Ledders at centre back though, fit or otherwise. To be fair, we do have an embarresment of riches in that position as a nation, and it's not an easy one to call. I think that Ferdinand hasn't done enough recently to merit his 'Automatic when fit' status, but there's no real understanding the logic of Sweden's most unlikely lothario.
Regardless, getting considered for this position after just one season at top level is no mean achievment and Dawson should be very proud of himself.

i think this world cup we could be caught out for pace at the back, neville has never been quick, rio looks half asleep and terry is a bruiser with a quick brain. Ashley cole got mullered in the CL final, lets hope he picks up a bit and is focused. He really had to take king i think.

Why hasn't King been taken? He's one of the best players in more than one position and he's about as fit as Rooney and Owen!
