Start Bent, Defoe, Taarabt, KPB, Zokora, Lennon & Cerny. Give the new boys a chance to show Jol what he's missing.

Stick JJ in nets, he's really athletic..and Lee upfront with Gardner..small man, big man combo..devastating stuff.. As long as those selections are made i'll be happy.

This is the team I'd like to see on thursday night:

GK: Alnwick
LB: Assou-Ekotto
CB: Dawson
CB: Kaboul
RB: Chimbonda
LM: Taarabt
CM: Huddlestone
CM: Boateng
RM: Lennon
CF: Bent
CF: Berbatov

Subs:

Cerny
Lee
Rocha
Zokora
Bale
Keane
Defoe

I Picked Alnwick over Cerny because he is still young and I've heard he has good potential, whereas Cerny is 32ish and isn't even our player! Also I think it would be good to see BAE as he has been out for a long while and a game will do him good.

Still, in comparison to English football Cypriot football is at the same standard as about League Two.

This is going to be no picnic I live in Cyprus and the papers are predicting a draw = yes they are that confident and the boss Katspia is a God out here he has them so fired up they are ready for this - they are bringing 1500 fanatics with them - they will not be going there just for the occassion - and the form we are in, if they score I see panic creeping in and that does not bode well for the return in a tightly packed stadium full of screaming bubbles!

On the ticket front they have only 400 allocated but if they lose five or six then they might up the ticket allowance as the fans won't bother to turn up.

Hope that is the case - we have a big THFC following here and they are all desperate to see the boys

Just read on the Spurs official web site that KPB was in the reserve team line up against Chelski yesterday night ... Is this meaning that he is not in Jol´s plan vs Cyprians ??? When the **** he´ll get chance playing for our senior team ?? If Thursday´s night UEFA cup match against the weakest team in the competition isn´t perfect time for trying some "different approach", then, I dont know when it will be... :(

Problem is, if he changes everything for this game and we win convincingly, that doesn't really prove anything as this team are probably worse than any team in the Premiership by quite a stretch.

It's more likely that he'll stick with pretty much exactly the same to try to get it working.

Keane and Robbo could do with dropping though. At least for this game.

Anyhoo, going back to tonight, I'm sure Barba will play because he needs to hit the net in the next two games. I'd like to see an experimental midfield of either Tom and Zokora or Tom and Steed but I'm sure Jenas will start as ususal! I'd like to see Taarabt given a start and Boateng given a run out as well.

Even we can't fail to win this convincingly, although I wonder if we'll keep a clean sheet??!

Ya, saw the JD article this moring and thought - get rid, any **** that watches Big Brother ought to be lobotomised (assuming they have a brain in the first instance) and neutered so they can't spread their moronic spawn to the next generation.

Going back to the game tonight, Jol will play a strong side not an experimental one, lest ye forget his arse is hanging in the breeze (god I feel sick at that imagery) and he needs to get a result. Anything less than 3 - 0 is a failure in my book, but there again the Cypriots will play 11 men behind the ball to make it as tough as possible. I reckon we'll struggle to a 2 -0 result.

One thing's for sure, Bent shouldn't be starting. I was surprised that Defoe didn't start. He showed his usual attributes when he came on. However, he needs to show those in the Prem and then he wouldn't be looking at being 4th choice striker.

Pointless game if you ask me.

All the goals were taken very well though.

And how shocking that we conceded. Strikers fault anyone? Shit defending yet again. And they actually had several other chances, they were actually getting in behind the defence - ridiculous.

Goals were taken well though, only good thing you can say. And Taarabt and Lennon actually added some sort of threat going forward.

It was a pointless game, why can't UEFA just set up another cup for shitty sides like Famagusta who just clutter up and already overcrowded competition.

I am the only one who found the game the dullest, least exciting, unconvincing five goal victory I've ever seen? How in the name of everything holy did they manage to let the Cypriots score, my primary school side could have kept a clean sheet against that lot.

I did laugh my arse off though when the Park Lane end started singing "small town in Turkey, you're just a small town in Turkey", I happen to like Bubbles but that was tres amusant.:D

I've decided that we are going to lose to Bolton on Sunday, the side was distinctly average and still allowed Famagusta time on the ball, the defence look like a bunch of deaf and blind men on a day out, Zokora is just shite and Lennon couldn't pick out a decent cross if his life depended on it. Oh and Steed isn't even a rabbitt killer anymore, just a *****. Bent is not good enough and never will be. Tom looked good though...and JD (yes I did just lavish praise on Defoe, hard to believe I know).

spursmadnick06

Jermaine Defoe is our most natural goalscorer and Zokora has to have the worst shooting ability out of any midfielder in the Premiership.

Have to say though, never thought i could be that bored watching a 6-1 Spurs victory.

Ah, a tiny laspe in concentration is no biggie. If we won all our games 6-1 then the lack of clean sheets wouldn't bother me. When we got the glut of goals near the end of the first half...I knew it would be 6 to finish. And that Defoe would get at least one. The look on his face tonight said it all

- The crowd love him
- The players love him
- In your face Jol
- In your face McClaren

He MUST start. Bent looked dire and fluffed a good deal of chances.

I did laugh my arse off though when the Park Lane end started singing "small town in Turkey, you're just a small town in Turkey", I happen to like Bubbles but that was tres amusant.

That was about as funny as being raped by John McCririck

If Defoe can prove he's more than a mindless rabbit killer then I'm all for it, but I'm not holding my breath.

We already have premium strikers in Keane, Berbatov and I would wager Bent. Over the season I think that will always be what will come to the fore.

I have to be honest over the last few seasons I'd rather have sucked the shit out of a beetle's arse than have Defoe ahead of Keane.

Gino Ginelli
21st September 2007, 09:15 AM
Sorry dude, Defoe MUST start over Keane for the next run of games. Okay Robbie scored, but FFS those goals were awesome. Sometimes in football you simply have to go with what is right in front of you, and not what 'should' be happening. At the moment Defoe is more deserving of a start then Keane, purley because of those two belters, and another flapping around display from Robbie. Trying flicks that don't come off, then blaming Bent for not getting it is not how a captain should be behaving.

But yeah, I wasn't convinced at all by the performance. There's still too many loose balls going straight to the opposition, poor movement off the ball in attack, and woeful positioning in defence. I can think of a couple of occasions when we had 4 defenders against 3 attackers in our box, and all 4 of them were no where near the 3, giving them a free header. Just as well they were shite, otherwise we'd have seen again why the likes of Adebayor score so easily against us.

Lennon needs more match practice, but I can't believe he hasn't spent any time on practising crosses. His pace & skill is evident, but just whacking it across the box brings nothing. Still genuine width is something we've lacked, I just hope we use it effectively.

Zokora showed why he's been dropped. Steed showed why he should be dropped as I didn't see him at all for spells. He started bright though.

Bent... hmm. Was woeful tonight but he needs the games to get the sharpness. So who starts against Notlob? Defoe deffo (wahey) but do you drop Berba for Bent? Or put Bent on the bench ahead of Keane? Selection headaches abound for Jol.

I'm not saying he doesn't deserve an opportunity, but I'm not expecting him to be any better than what he has done over the last few years. And that has not impressed me at all.

But the way the team is disjointed it may be better to have the lone shooter because he plays on his own anyway. He's used to it and he is a very good finisher.

SurreySpur

I'm a massive Keane fan but his displays this season have been completely uninspiring, he's playing like his starting place in the team is guarunteed. Bringing Defoe in for a run of games would probably do them both a lot of good, Defoe looks hungry and Keano definatley needs a kick up the arse.

Although who should partner defoe is another matter!

Yes, it struck me that Zokora was incredibly awful. His first attempt to trap the ball ended with it pinging 20 feet away! Just how he manages to be so completely inept in shooting at goal is a mystery that Scotland Yard wouldn't be able to solve.

The reason Keano plays is because he's the only striker that really links up play unless u get berbs to drop off then you can play either bent or defoe. People are saying JD's selfish but for **** sake owen is the same he has one aim and thats to score and thats what JD's all about. Bent had a chance last night instead of shooting he tried to play in keane i thought what the ****s happening here

Zokora really does have the touch of a rapist!! BUT he covers much more ground than hudd and JJ and can actually tackle (i dont give a **** about your OPTA stats:p ) if only he could pass and shoot. Steed shouldn't be playing on the wing and Lennon seriosly needs to watch a video on how to cross a ball.

Only gripe about Kaboul is that he keeps being beaten in the air at set pieces which isn't good OH and play Cerney more please

Thought you of all people would like that imagery :D

I have previously summed up Didier "Maestro" Zokora as follow; can't shoot, can't pass, can't tackle, first touch of a rapist; no brains; no brawn.

Can I add to this list, caught out more than once by some part time Cypriot footballers. Some will say "oh but he brings the ball out quite well", wonderful but what does he do with it apart from play a loose pass to the wrong player whihc is intercepted and then fails to track back when he losses possesion.

Right,

Zokora CAN tackle, and he IS strong, he is very good at powering forwards, and is very hard working. However he CAN'T shoot and his passing is very limited. It also seems to take him 4 hours to control the ball, after which he circles it several times before laying it off to no one. He started this season very well for me, but I believe I once referred to him as a waste of blood an organs in the past.(can't remember when or why)

I don't like JJ, (lord knows I complain about him enough) but as the workhorse of the team I'd rather him than Zokora. I'm gonna make a call for KPB and Steed in the middle. Steed's lost on the flanks, get him in central and then we can see what he really does. Hudd's got great technique but his mobility and positioning leaves the centre of the park far too wide open, plus he always looks for and tries the 60 yard ball instead of intricate passing. he seems to think he can take people on as well all of a sudden. No Tom, you're built like a tank, you can't move that fast!

but anyway, we'll see what the Notlob game brings

Yea, I agree with your assessment of Zokora.

At this stage if I was manager I'd go with Tainio in the holding role and Boeteng and see how he does, he can't be worse than JJ.

I'd also try Steed in there at some point as well. I'm a big Hudd fan but I'd be wary of playing him to be honest. He does get caught out, but I still maintain that it is possibly the bad organisation and gaps between defence, midfield and attack that are leaving his lack of pace exposed.

[QUOTE=Spur;60925]Pointless game if you ask me.QUOTE]

have to disagree there. we had a moral boosting victory in the opening round of the uefa last season after a dire start. then we went unbeaten for 10 games. last night could be just what we need to get going again

Owen is a poacher for me, which is fine in terms of selfishness. He is the last element of the moves. And he contributes with his constant intelligent movement which creates space for himself and the team. And when he is involved in the build up his link play is decent. So in my view there is a large difference between Defoe and Owen. There would also be a difference in their goal records in the prem.

Indeed Keane is spurs top goalscorer in the league (1 in 2.5 compared to JD's 1 in 3), as well as being a far better player.

I'm not saying Keane shouldn't get dropped, because he's not playing well, and JD did really well last night. But if Keane is good enough, and he is, then he will most likely shunt Defoe below him once again.

Nah I'm ok really. Just don't like Zokora very much. In fact the only bit of last night (other than JD's and Keano's goals) that made me smile was the ball boy - what a dude.

HEHEHE

"ball boy give us a wave - ball boy ball boy give us a wave"

awesome !!

That was funny just saw it on tube as too far away at game to see it! Thought its funny what they all think is being shouted to the kid instead of yiddo like cheeto and hero made me laugh a bit.

All i say about game was JD needs to keep playing get his confidence back and continue to smash goals in! Other than that i thought we played shit! Just lucky they were the worse team i've seen!

How quickly people forget

Zokora was the darling of you lot towards the end of last season, with only his shooting in question

What's happened here!

That must have been another forum mate!

not in the weekly schedules tho they were printed before the kick off switch i guess

think its outrageous that they can change the kick off times after people have arranged travel and to be before some will eventr land at Cyprus. For UEFA to ok this is bollox, about time travelling fans got some respect but as they treat you like shit, they can hardly moan if you act like it.
