i feel so bloody tense its untrue. we're years off expecting a win at OT, we're 3 hours or so away from needing a win at OT.
not the end of the world if we don't win i know, but i dunno when i've wanted a win more. if we're set up for the win with taarb on i think we could have a goal fest 4-3 either way. if we're set up like prior games i can see us losing 2-0. actualy thinking about it, its not the result i'm tense about, its the performance. i really want to us going for it. with our top defenders out i can live with us suffering a little going back, just wanna see us pressing and creating going forward.
the contradicting of myself even within this post kinda sums me up right now

0 - 0 at half time .. being as pessimistic about the game as I was that is good going for us.
Bale looks as though he will be good on the left from what I have seen so far but we do seem lightweight in the middle .. United seem to get the ball to easy there. Berby dosnt look fit at all to me .. off the pace and dosnt seem his self.
Defence is holding on well and Gardner was unlucky to not get a goal .. not sure who is more surprised ..
United will step it up second half so lets hope we hold on and get at least a point.
Tarby to come on in second half? .. would be good to see him running at Brown.

For 17.5m don't think we missed out on Nani at all. Had my heart in my mouth 5 mins before ht when Robbo played the ball to Gardner and you could see United marauding to close him down. United are without 70% of their firepower but Spurs look confident, are passing the ball slickly and just need to be aware that Mal is being pressurised as soon as he's on the ball, and has had some difficulty in fighting off challenges.

A lot of positives to be taken from that .. especially Bale, still young and got a lot to learn but a lot of potential.
Team spirit was there and they played as a team today and with a better ref we would of won that game.
Once we get our defence back things will be better and I can see a run of 15 plus games without a defeat.
But we do need at least one main defender back to get Gardner out of the team, of all the goals scored against us this season I think he has been directly responsible for about 4 so far ....

happy with everyones performances especially tony and jj. hudd and bale look like our future.
robbed yet again tho by these scum and i hate it, now we have to beat arsenal.
feel sorry for jol but a performance like that and we could beat them just needed the ball to bounce for us in the area like it does for other teams.
i think steed probably needed replacing earlier for tarby just because he didnt seem to move forward well with the ball, maybe due to being unconfident at the big stage.
glad berbatov finally sprung to life and showed his class 2nd half and at least the futures bright!revenge will be sweet when we are fullyfit!

I have to agree about Bale, he looks excellent. It cant be easy making your premier league debut away at Man Utd but he seemed to take it all in his stride. Its a shame he didnt get any opportunities from central free-kicks around the penalty area.
Im sure most of you feel the same as me in that i have developed an instant dislike for Nani, not just because he scored, more because he's a greasy dirty diving toss-piece!!
As much as i hate to say it but Is it just me or did any of you get the impression that Berba knows he's going to playing elsewhere very very soon??

thought we played ok today, when we played. the biggest problem seemed to be not wanting the ball from the back. robinson must have kicked 20 long balls today, to a striker leading the front line against bigger defenders, and very poorly supported by his midfield. you could call this tactics or player error i don't know.
we played great for 20 mins against an average utd team, then came the long balls and we just kept giving them the ball until we panicked and sat back on our box. i'm just really annoyed we kept doing it. somebody has to take responsibility, for an even game that slipped us by again, largely due to tactics in my opinion.

As better players are coming back, it does make a difference.
Young or not, Bale was very effect down that left wing considering who we were playing and the pressure on the team etc. That was his first game too.
Actually, under the circumstances, our defence did very well but I agree and have said for years Gardner is pants and should be dropped.
Once we have King, Dawson and Kaboul back and Lennon on the right it will come together.

Robinson was good today, unlucky with that slight deflection off Tevez for the goal. 7
Chimbo - usual solid self, put in some great tackles, needs to be a bit more productive. 7
Rocha - Good display and good partnership with Gardner. Committed, should have scored free header. 7
Gardner - Surprisingly good performance, won most headers, and distributed well. 7
Y.P.Lee - Come on leaps and bounds since this fixture two years ago. No longer the skinny little pushover he once was. Love his runs out of defence. 7
Malbranque - Useless. Poor control, always receiving the ball facing his own goal made it difficult for himself. It looks like the centre of midfield or nothing for our Steed. 5
Jenas - Carried on good form, determined and hard working although still has a little work to do on his game. It was Man Utd mind. 6
Huddlestone - This man is far too slow for PL football. Everything else he has is top notch, but he has no engine, it's like racing a 1 litre mini versus a 1600 pug 106 - theres only gonna be one winner. At fault for the goal. 6
Bale - Great debut, nice runs, will definately be an asset. Nice to see some crosses coming in from the left! Can't wait for his home debut. 7
Berbatov - Completely ineffective until about an hour. Needs to score badly. Did well twice and almost scored twice - then came the sublime pull down and swerver - which was millimetres away. 6
Keane - Apart from the shot that hit the bar did he do anything? 5
SUBS
Defoe - too late to make impact, dont think he had a touch, must be off in Jan.
Zokora - Did ok, played out of position
Taarabt - Feel he's trying to hard to impress, too early to judge though

I'm really proud of the boys today.
The result was never in doubt, utd are as corrupt as they come, no penaltly will be awarded unless they comfortably ahead, or they are playing the other 3 from the faggott four.
So the main aim as far as I was concerned was to keep it respectable, and we more than did that, we I beleive were the better team. Bale was superb. What a player he is. In defense we were surprisingly solid, with Gardner playing excellently against the champions. We were not awed by Cunchester United in the least.

It was a very good performance in my opinion and we AT LEAST deserved the draw, and if we did win no one would have been surprised after seeing us play today, i'm extremely proud of the players and the dignity that Jol has come out with, and if we keep up that level of energy and commitment, aswell as the nice football we've become known for, then I can see us going on a very nice unbeaten run, notice Jol went out for the draw when we were 1-0 down, he attacked the game, and it almost payed off, and it probably should of done, if we play with that kind of determination, no longer will we lose leads so easilly, if at all infact, because if you go ahead, and you have the determination we showed, you 99% of the time go on to win, bring on Arsenal at White Hart Lane is all I can say, if we keep up this level of energy and determination, we'll beat them comfortably in my opinion, and maybe even Lennon will be back for that match, which will be even more frightning for the opposition defenders ;), it's a defeat and it hurts the way we lost, but it's a strange one, because it shows alot of promise we just havent shown before, so keep your chin up lads, COYS!! :D

Can't wait to see the team like this:
Robinson
Chimbonda Kaboul King Bale
Lennon Boateng Huddlestone Taarabt
Bent Berbatov
You won't be seeing a team like that. Have you ever seen KPB play? As he's a Comolli signing he could be as ineffective and as unavailable as BAE. And, despite his gifts, it's way too early for Taara to start. If he had the maturity that Bale showed today that would be fine. And I'd replace Hudd with Kaboul in midfield. Quicker, stronger and sound range of passing.

would rather replace hudd with king , and have dawson and kaboul as center backs .
hudd can do a job for us when he is given time to do it , but with the pace of the premiership its rarely going to happen , derby was the exception . i am afraid to say i think hudd great on the ball as he is, may well have to go to europe to fufill his full potential , where maybe the pace isnt quite as frenetic .

How can you move our best player and captain and move him centre midfield a position that he doesn't want to play, and play kaboul who has only played one game? King is World class in my opinion as centre back so it will have to be dawson and king centre back. Don't get me wrong kaboul looks good but moving someone like ledley king out of centre back will only weaken us.
If we don't buy a left winger than i would be happy with bale left mid and lee left back.

But my question is when will we see all these players fit at once?

regarding king , i just dont feel that we have anyone else at the club presently that can make that role his own , something that we badly miss, leadership and strength in the middle of the park .
and tbh it was more as an alternative to the suggestion of putting kaboul in that role as the previous had suggested .
anyteam,if they win the battle in midfield and can dominate from there , will more than likely go on to win the game , our midfield pairings recently dont seem to be able to do it (except against derby )

Check this at the daily mail:
MANCHESTER UNITED (4-4-3): Van der Sar 6; Brown 6, Vidic 5, Ferdinand 6, Evra 6; Hargreaves 7, Carrick 5 (Eagles 56min, 6), Scholes 6; Nani 7, Tevez 5 (Fletcher 78, 6), Giggs 6. Booked: Giggs, Brown. TOTTENHAM (4-4-2): Robinson 5; Chimbonda 7, Rocha 6 (Zokora 83, 5), Gardner 6, Lee 5 (Taarabt 75, 5); Malbranque 6, Jenas 7, Huddlestone 6, Bale 7; Keane 6 (Defoe 75, 5), Berbatov 7.
They're right. manure played with 12 players, as howard webb clearly benefited man utd all the game

Yer it seems maybe carrick hasn't been replaced but i feel we should deal with it and play zokora or hudd and stick with it for a few games.
And i thought Hudd and JJ down well considering they were against scholes, carrick and hargreaves. Give they time season still early jol needs to make up his mind hudd or zokora and stick with it for a few games.

I just think we proved a lot yesterday. It was Man Utd's first win of the season, but most people were talking about OUR efforts in the game and how we definitely should have had something, Souness even - in a tongue in cheek fashion - mentioned the liklehood of ever being awarded a pen at OT.
We do need to start winning, not only to steady the ship, but for POINTS. We need points. We just have to get something out of Fulham. As for Arsenal, anyone who thinks we have a divine right to victory is living in a dreamworld, they've looked effective enough without Henry and are winning games. We've got to fight tooth and nail for 90 minutes if we're gonna do em, and that means keeping concentration and being more powerful on the ball then them for the entire game, otherwise, they will kill us, they are more than capable of that.
Also, the fans shouldn't chant things like 'your support is ****ing shit' because its disrespectful and its always puts bad karma onto us, but that's a different story'

I'd be very interested to see how many penalties United have had given against them at O.T since the start of the Premier League.
less than the fingers on one hand , come on we all know the ball has to bulge the back of the net before a goals given there .
Maybe sour grapes but i do think its about time the rest of the teams refused to play there or Anfield and its hardly like their fans put pressure on the ref, dont even hear them

Ha ha, absolutely. Fergies comments that Man Utd will definately win this just mean that they secured the Ref's pocket for the game. Bastards.
Which is a real shame because we were far and away the better side today. Everyone was terrific, worked extremely hard and did Jol and us more than proud. Berba came to life in the 2nd half and was mesmeric again, and nearly scored a goal to make Henry sick. Barely inches away. And Robbie clipping the bar in the first minute? Christ we could have bagged a few today. The finishing did let us down again, but the chances are now being created. Okay Robbie didn't get many chances, and I do feel Defoe deserves a start, but I think Robbie should have stayed on today, as I think a little bit of bite went out of our game when he left. He's certainly more battling the JD.
My only misgiving today is that Routledge should have started on the right instead of Steed. Okay he'd earned the start with his goals from last week, but he's a bit of a headless chicken at times, and when he should have been bombing forward with th e ball he was checking back. Lack of positivity that I normally see from Jenas. BUT (and I never thought I'd be saying this) Jenas was excellent today. Aside from his weekly blunder in the final third, where he was clean through but it bounced off his heel, he was everywhere. It reinforced my opinion that JJ is really a more defensive midfielder. He's at his best in games like today, where he is running around breaking up play and working for the team. Really great work from him. And I think I now agree with those who think our best CM pairing is him and Hudd, who's playmaking was terrific. Of course Zokora may yet prove to be even better than JJ in that role ( I think he will ).
As for Bale, well about bloody time. A genuine threat from the left. We looked immediately improved with him there. He was brilliant working with Lee, who continuously impresses me, and his delivery was excellent every time. I think those two will make a perfect left sided pairing, as they can trade roles, overlap, double up, and really work for each other. An exciting prospect there. Taarabt again just seemed to run into people alot, but looks dangerous, and had a few flashes. He needs a bit more time though.
The other defenders were also good. Okay Rocha & Gardner were'nt put under as much pressure as expected but they still had to deal with Tevez and the corners, and they did. Rocha is especially good, with Gardner working hard, but obviously going to be bottom of the pecking order. Chimbo again was outstanding, I think he's class.
All in all, we can learn from the defeat, as we were better than Manure but in the end they got the goal. And okay we WERE cheated out of a penalty and we should have won, but it's Old ****ing Trafford, "Theatre of corrupt american business Dreams" and in all honestly, all I wanted was for us to give a good account of ourselves for Martin Jol, for us Fans and so that Tottenham Hotspur was again about football and not a back page headline. Which we did emphatically. I now feel a complete demolition of Fulham is coming on, and we'll knob all over Bolton. Liverpool will be tough, I'll be prepared to chalk that one up as a loss, but after todays game, we can finally have the Arse, big style. Berbatov's gonna make Lehmann cry!

its been a while since i been on here...
but after the match yesterday, plus seeing many Man Utd fans gloating in the pub i was in; i kinda feel that ive gotta vent some frustrations lol.
Im so ****ing gutted not to come away with something from that match. There were many positives (Bale being the main one) and the fact that virtually our second string defence held the 'champions' for such a long time. We were on the back foot for some time of the match but i felt we handled it very well. Jol said he wanted to take the fight to them; and i think they did. We started very positively and i think we ended very strong aswell.
I was chuffed to see that berbatov finally shifted up a gear aswell and got his arse moving! :D
I still cant believe that the illusive 'away penalty at old trafford' saga continues. Does Rio have to get a gun and wipe out an opposing player for there to be an away penalty?!
In conclusion: Yes im ****ing gutted that we didnt get anything- but there are positives to take away from this game. We need to do fulham badly though... Say another 4-0 drumming? Might start to shit arsenal up for the week after ;)
If we play like we did yesterday against any other club (at home) there ****ing done :D

Yeah I'm a little bit of a betting man and not sounding too optmistic...but I have a feeling Spurs will be my number one betting team for this season.
Bare in mind I bet only hard favourites for big money!
And forget the rule never bet on your own club! I see enough from Bale, that will solve our number 1 problem which was inbalance in midfield.

I'm proud of the boys today, we were more than a match for United, and if it wern't for the ref we'd have got all 3 points or at least 1 point.
The boys can hold their heads up high and take confidence from their performance 2 day, with a makshift defence we kept out the Prem champions for most of the game.
Bale had a good game and was a constant menace on the lw, Vidic brought Berba down in the penalty area and Brown kept the ball out using his arm, so that's 2 penalties we were robbed of 2day.
Again it goes back to "away teams don't get penalties at OT."
Well done boys

Our problem this season is going to be keeping the whole squad fit. I could never have imagined King's injury problems to have such a massive effect on us, I am still convinced that with him we would have finished 4th last season, and definately would not yet have lost a game this season. If we'd have had ALL our players from the off, then I think right now we'd be on about 9 points.
But then again other teams (Man Utd especially) could say the same.

it would be a treat if we could actually manage a goal away!In fact aside from demolishing a woeful Derby we have managed 1 goal & our much vaunted group of strikers has managed one goal total!Personally I am sick of the usual 'culture' of pride in 'brave defeats' & I see the start of this season as close to a catastrophe, both on & off the field & I shall be relieved if we can actually crawl back up the table to a UEFA spot again as any aspirations to top 4 & CL are delusions of grandeur!

Normally I'd agree but OT is our worst away ground for results, surprisingly worse than Anfield. The pride results from the confident and polished performance of the team, something that could well have been greatly lacking after previous events. It means that the run that started in February last season needs to start from September. The one thing that would totally transform the season is beating Arsenal. Easier said than done after the last game against them, but most of the elements are there.

**** beating arsenal its just another game. Arsenal have 20 more important games per season than the two V us,
the six V their 3 main rivals, their CL games and the semis/ finals they may get to .
i want us to get to that level where the north London derby dont mean jack.

Yes, well said that man.
Jol made a good point in his post-match interview at United, saying that he's trying to instill the mentality that teams like Man U are there to be beaten, in his own words - "Why not?"
I really think that what were lacking. We need to look at each game as it comes and set out our stall to win each and evey game, no matter who the opposition. We have plenty of strengths and we should be using them to beat teams into submission, or at least make a game of it. We need to make sure we've always got a chance. More to the point, that we take those chances also.
