Sky Sports News have just announced that spurs have signed Dimitar Berbatov from Bayer Leverkusen For £10.9million.

So its official now, subject to a successful work permit application. This is going to turn out to be a real massive signing for us and it'll probably be followed shortly about another transfer announcement, Defoe to Liverpool?

Well done to Dan Levy, Damien Comolli and Martin Jol for acting so swiftly in securing such a quality, proven goalscorer. Also its great to announce such a massive signing on the day thats meant to be all about the gooners, Quality touch.

C'mon BARCA!!!!

What nice way to wake up this morning to find out that we have signed a excellent Forward.

But I do hope we can keep hold of defoe.

great deal, im pleased we got him in the bag so fast as usually we take our time. we dont know the contract length but i heard it would be a 3-year-deal which im a bit disappointed in as it shows there are still memories of Rebrov's expensive flop. i would have liked to have paid a bit more to smash our transfer record and try to banish the Rebrov deal from recent history. He shouldnt encounter any work permit problems as he is a regular for Bulgaria and their best player.

good signing and considering the made us wait for a striker in the last two windows, its nice to see they've acted fast in securing this guy.

dont you need to have played 75% of your countries internationals in the last two yrs, or something along those lines, to get a permit. if thats the case then its just a formality.

i just wonder if defoe will be going. if he does, he'll allow us to almost balance the books so we can pay more big money on a very attacking, robben-like, left winger. this would give us a lot more versatility next season and allow for the traditional 4-3-3 to be played, with berby, keano, barnard (& mido???) as the central options and lennon, routers, reid etc out wide.

speaking to a german last night and i liked the picture he painted of berb, i'm happy.

got mixed feelings about defoe if hes off though, on one hand i know what he could be and on the other i know what he has been recently and the 2 ain't the same

I think what is going to happen is defoe will go to liverpool for around the same amount as we purchased barbie for, so effectively spurs have recouped the money they have spent. I would prefer defoe to stay which would give us a really strong strike force but i cant see it.

its sad really.

we've all seen whats happened with keane after his outburst at birmingham and subsequent fine. then came the rumours of an imminent move to everton
but he knuckled down, got his chance and boy did he take it.

lets not forget, keane only got his chance cos defoe was seriously misfiring up til november. whenever defoe came back in, he only ever showed glimpses of talent against birmingham, charlton and west ham and his attitude towards his situation was poor...one of a sulking little boy. i still remember his shocking performances against leicester and liverpool in january when he came on and just didnt look arsed.

if he's not commited to spurs and is only primarily there to further his own ambitions, then sell him and replace him with a boy that cares for spurs, like keano.

he was truly inspirational this season and has improved by miles. kenao could truly be a spurs legend in these coming years.

I second that!

I second that!

my i add though that i dont want to see him go and think he's an outstanding talent and certainly a more natural scorer than keane.

on the last MOTD this year hansen highlighted the difference between the two players...keane now takes risks to get into positions to score(liverpool, arsenal etc). defoe no longer does that, he comes deep too much.

in the ideal world, we'd see a keane-like reaction frm defoe next season, but i fear mr eriksson has already made the decission for us!

I say we cash in on Defoe now while we can. The new front line will be better and i can't see Mido back. It's a shame that he wasn't able to have said a goodbye though as he did well for us.

was trying to see if defoe was at the england training camp this morning. have been showing clips on SSN but i only saw johnson and reo-coker of the standby's. I really want defoe to stay, he's very young remember and keane was pretty poor last year so everyone deserves a chance. I certainly don't agree that he doesn't care, and i know it's everyones entitlement to say what they like, but if fans start saying they think he's slacking or not good enough, it won't help him. I still think he's the best striker we've got, he just needs to be given service rather than having to provide it himself.

Am I being overly pessimistic in worrying that he wont sign officially until July? What if someone else tempts him before then , more embarrasment for us.

Does anyone know how long he has signed for?

well he's just done an interview on SSN where i might add he speaks english, not super fluent but he understands so that's good. Won't have to sing to him in bulgarian. he sounds a good level headed guy, with a team ethic. sorted

There's a a bit of uncertainty ain't there, what with us now having Keane, Defoe, Berbatov and Mido, it looks like either Defoe or Mido are out the door. Some one made an interesting point about Defoe being sold to recoup the money, but then if Mido goes also, then we only have Keane and Berbatov. So I've concluded:

1. We're done with the strikers and we'll keep all four.

2. We'll keep three (Defoe/Keane/Berbatov), give Barney a chance next season and Mido back to Roma.

3. Defoe goes to Liverpool, Mido is signed, and it's now Keane/Mido/Berbatov

4. Only Keane stays, along with Berbatov, then we MUST be in the market for another striker and it isn't just rumours....

Mido has gone. Say bye-bye because he's gone. Gone. Not here. No longer at Spurs. Gone.

Wouldn't mind having Mido as back-up tall guy if we can get him for 3-3.5 million.

Just heard from one of the other menbers from the danish spurs fan-site that has a sources close to the club saying that he was 100% sure that Carlton Cole was going to be presented on friday. Which for me would mean that Defoes future at spurs is in big doubt.. Don't know what you think, but I would rather have Defoe then Cole...

not necessarily, we are always going to want four strikers, just depends the style and quality and how happy they'll be as squadies. Defoe really rated cole as i think they played u21's together and did well. I really can't see us selling defoe, i'm sure he'll get more games next year so he'd want to give it another year atleast.

coles a good player and has always impressed me when playing at chelsea. he has mares at charlton and villa but he was playing for o'dreary and curbs. he thrives under good coaches like mourinho and could do so under jol.

however, if we do sell defoe i think it will be in place of a versatile left forward who can play up front or out wide...like robben, kalou etc. total football is the name of the game for BMJ

Question for all you guys?

Would you take losing Mido back from loan, and Defoe to Liverpool for say £8mill, and then spurs to spend that money on say Kuyt?

Do you think Spurs would buy 2 worldclass strikers at once?

And can you see us getting another striker if we lose Defoe and Mido, or will we just stick with Barney etc or buy some £3 mill rated striker instead of a Berbatov class one?

Keanoldinho
17th May 2006, 03:56 PM
I think Keano/Berbatov/Defoe/Cole would be a class set of forwards, but if we lose Defoe then we most definately need to replace him with another quality striker unless Terry Dixon is really the next Rooney.

if he is then why dont we play him? or we waiting for him to sign for a rival team like we seem to like doing with our youngsters .

If we lose both Defoe and Mido, it is imperative we sign at least one striker with experience, and leave the other spot for Barney, Hammy, Pekhart and Dixon to contend for. I think in time, the latter 3 should be ahead of Barney. By which time, we could off-load Barney and the 3rd striker we bought, leaving Keano, Berb, Hammy, Pekhart and Dixon.

keanaldo spot on cole defoekeane and berbatov that is the strike force we nrrd for next season, cole has power to compliment the other three, who are finishers, apart from keane who alsoplays second striker well, it would be nice to see what kijt could bring to team but i would settle for cole ... barnard needs to go out on loan pref to chapionship side or prem side maybe portsmouth, everton, villa, mid table team where he could get games.. we goto keep defoe cant let one of our rivals get him because of one transitional season which pusheed us up a level..we all need to sit back and take a closer look at what spurs have acheived ...we need a big squad with quality...

If Defoe does go it would be nice to get Kujt or Torres, but another quality player is Suazo from Cagliari who has scored a shat load of goals for them in the Seria A this season. He basically saved them from relegation by himself he stuck in 22 in the league and 26 overall and is fast as hell and very strong on the ball.

Chinaman

It would be nice on paper. But who's willing to sit on the bench? If Defoe goes, I guess we'll sign a second line replacement.
