I have one, and only one, very minor critisism of magical Martin Jol and that is the amount of central midfielders he has bought to the club. Carrick, Jenas, Davids, Tainio, Murphy, Ghaly, Marney and Huddlestone in the squad could be too much. this is bearing in mind the fact that we sold Sean Davies, Michael Brown and fans favourite Pedro Mendes in the recent transfer window.
Excluding the out-on-loan Wayne Routledge we have just 2 natural wingers in the side that being the young Aaron Lennon and the ever-injured Andy 'all the pies' Reid. This is not enough width for a team on the verge of either the uefa cup of the champions league. Jenas has done well but is only a makeshift as is Davids and the versatile Tainio.
who else thinks we need more width???

yep the team is really unbalanced, and i don't think he's helping the players that are out of position either, although you could argue it's a learning process.
I find the acquisition of murphy and ghaly bizarre considering our congested midfield. Obviously things are going to change. I'm going to stick my neck out and say carrick will be sold. I think hudds is a ready replacement anyway so cash in i say. I think marney won't get a look in and it'll be between davids and tainio for the door. I like tainio and think he is by far the best makeshift left mid we have.
With all the combinations we could have and could make with additions, it's the lack of height that concerns me the most. I don't think you can play lennon, routledge and defoe in the same team and expect to defend at corners. It seems bizarre to me the way jol, if it is him, has put this team together. But i think there may be wholesale changes again this summer.
What that means for reid and ziegler i can't imagine.

dont be daft, carrick wont be sold. more than likely, davids will leave for ajax.
our best pairing is jenas and carrick which leaves two positions for wide men. on different occasions, a murphy or tainio might be played out wide with one natural winger. i think we'll see a left sided winger come in this summer to compliment what we already have and i wouldnt be surprised to see murphy actually go.

I never realised the point of buying Murphy. I'm sure he didnt really want to come here, but had the prospect of staying with the joke of a team Charlton or joining us, a wonderful club.

Well, to be fair, i'd say Davids Spurs career is pretty much over as far as first team football is concerned. Marney is never really going to break through properly and Huddlestone is essentially a centre back. That leaves Carrick, Jenas, Tainio, Ghaly and Murphy. I'd say that was decent cover for the centre mid position. The history we've had with injuries it can't hurt to have backup. We still have Routledge, Lennon, Reid and Ziegler as wingers, so i wouldn't say we were short on that front really.
