who could fill the boots of davids if we lose him. some r saying jenas. murphy, etc. but if u look back and see what davids does jus being on the park, spurs looked so different from all those many seasons of our generally wimpish players. in short a player who can tackle and give away a free kick for the team. many of us have a lot of critisism for davids but overall spurs wouldnt be where they are and we would not be so expectant withou davids experience and expectancies. campare him to liverpools sisoko. who u say ask gerard and alanso , or boateng for boro, makalee for chelski. man utd also need that type of player who can challenge tackle, and more importantly start a counter offensive play or just retain the ball, look what happened to madrid when they let makalee leave, and utd when they failed to replace keane, fletcher tried, liam other bloke tried, now they put a competitor in there oshea, but he uses the ball inteligently, key factors.. competitive challenges and uses ball well... few yaers ago we tried to use king the same way and he looked brilliant there under graham... and erickson can also he it to so there you are ... a competitive combative ball user is what we must have in the midfield.

Huddlestone!!!!
BTW, surely you could do the job? You did an excellent job there for Man City in the 80's as far as I can recall.

No doubt davids has be very important us this season, but we have players who can replace him. First of all, all the players you compare davids is playing a different role in their teams, then davids is in ours. All those players play in Carricks position. One of the only players who's very similar to Davods is playing in our own team= Tainio. I think Tainio can do the job davids has done this year.

The thing that most worries me about losing (if we lose) Davids is his ability to lift the team, the way he set about Ars*nal, in their ground was magnificent, okay he got sent off, but he terrified their midfield for at least an hour! Tanio can fill Edgars boots in a football sence, but i don't think he has the warrior spirt to lift the team in a battle! I don't think many players do so finding a replacement will be a real challenge for us!

yep andyharker's got it spot on, tainio can do it on the field but off it who knows. i think Keane could grow in stature with his new R.O.I skippers role

Spot on mate. The fact that Davids has been taking aside youngsters at the training ground is another reason we should try & convince him to see out his contract.

I don't think Spurs have the kind of midfielder who can fill Davids shoes in terms of experience, but there are definitely a few who are very capable to fit his shoes in terms of on-pitch performance. I'm bored of mentioning him, and maybe you're sick of me posting about him, but I reckon Ghaly would be an excellent player to fill the gap Davids would leave.

The thing in Ghaly's favour is he'll get his chance to impress during the pre-season. Everyone should start with a clean slate & be able to put his case forward.

Davids is a legend of the game and there simply isn't anybody who could replace him besides maybe Gattuso, but that aint going to happen. Huddlestone definately has the build of a midfield general and with the right mentor could become a amazing player, but Davids leaving would be a very bad thing for us next season.

true but he did need a bit of a kick up the ass and by dropping him Jol gave him one (a kick up the ass that is)

The fact that he was only out for a week or 2 after breaking a bone shows what a tough and dedicated bastard he is a true legend and his leadership will be sorely missed if he goes to Ajax.

Davids is a big game player for sure, I would love him to stay on next season and help us win the Uefa Cup. One thing's for sure Seville wouldn't of beat us 4-0 in the final.

i think we may be defending the Peace Cup in Japan and then we'll probably play Porto the week before the start of the season, we always seem to play them every pre-season

Isn't the Peace Cup in Korea?

It is, can't we find a new competition to win? We've done that one already, maybe we should try winning the FA Cup or something...

The Peace Cup is relatively easy money. So why not.

Noone can fill Edgar's boots as far as experience goes.... he's Edgar Davids.
As far as on the pitch goes, Davids looked seriously off the pace for the majority of the final half of the season.
If he can get that fitness back in his game, and that energy then i say keep him. If not, he'll never be worth playing.
