although that is a decent team, its missing a right back. i think we will need a right back even though for the main of this season we havent had one. Chimbonda would be my choice

Yeah, Pedersen on the left. Hopefully Keane can carry his form on, if not then Defoe will get more games and his form should improve too.

I'd like to keep it english and Downing LM

I like Downing. One of the few genuine left wingers in the league, but to be honest i prefer Pedersen. He's technically better (in my opinion) and has a better scoring ratio.

Point taken but didn't Pederson turn us down and join Blackburn and I didn't like his quotes earlier in the season when we were linked with him about not wanting to join a club on a similar level to Blackburn!

Yeah, when he heard that we were interested he said that he was happy where he was, and that he thought that Spurs weren't that much better so didn't see the point. I would think that depending on what happens over the summer, who leaves/joins B'burn, may dictate what he does... if anything.

If we could get him it would be good, but chances are we won't.

you have to say hughes has done an amazing job at blackburn, the team looks nothing special on paper, but they've got 6th and played some cracking footy against us- the bastards. A case of being economical with your goals if ever there was one. Having said that we should have had lots more, a left wing will make such a difference to us next year. Lets hope we wear the nets out at the lane. As for downing, the world cup will show us just how good he is. I think the boro managers job will be hard to fill as it's much like charlton, on a shoe string. There are a lot of old players who could be replaced by the starlets, if not it'll cost a lot to keep the team competitive. Downing would cost atleast £8-9m in my opinion. Think we'd get much better value than that abroad. Willemson sounded like he was approached in january, but i haven't been impressed with him from what i've seen, nor kalou either.

Looks good on paper, but I'm afraid it'll be overrun in midfield as there's no steel there. Must have a ball winner.

a midfield ball winner - carrick seems to have learnt how to tackle but with ledders & daws behind him its not as much of an issue. my starting 11 for next season would be;

GK Robbo
LB Bridge
CB Ledders
CB Daws
RB Chimbonda
LM Duff
CM Carrick
CM Jenas
RM Lennon
ST Keano
ST Barbie

Carrick just bothers the opposition without really going in hard and coming out clean with the ball.

I forgot about him! That's a great idea, perhaps he could kidnapp Robinhio and bring him too. :D

Not sure about bridge. why not carlos even if only for couple of years.

I would love to see tainio involved more regularly - for a freebie he has been fantastic .

downing on left would do me :)

With Carrick taking up a space in midfield you either have an attacking midfielder along side him and make-do defensively or a ball winner alongside him to win the ball, seeing as we will hopefully be buying a left-winger we will be able to attack down both wings with two genuine wingers, so maybe a ball-winner is essential. Lennon on the right and Pedersen on the left sounds good to me, and you have Robbie taking up that roaming role in the middle to take up the spcae left by the midfield.

We're all tactical genius. If Jol only reads what we say instead of listening to Hughton.
