Striker Henry 'to join Barcelona'
Barcelona are set to sign Arsenal striker Thierry Henry for a fee believed to be about £16m, according to reports coming out of Spain.
The player's agent, Jeff Weston, told BBC Sport: "The SEM Group have no comment to make."

Anyone else noticed how much money Wenger has lost out on two players? Henry, could have gone for 40mil last year, goes for 16mil. Vieira goes for 12mil, could have gone for 25mil...

TalkSport aka TalkArsenal (Gab Marcotti is a closet Gooner) are putting a positive spin of this LOL

Not wanting to be picky, but Berba is 30m as he is 26/27(?) and entering his prime. Henry is 30 so therefore is only 16m, plus he hasn't played for a year and a half practically. Henry at 26 would have cost 60m or something daft.

But anyway, yes Arsenal are a one man army, and seem destined for a bit of a slide, Haa-haa (Nelson Muntz style).

Have you seen SSN's coverage of the deal? It's like he's died!! We're going to have to put up with every football pundit in the land creaming over him for a bit again, and every bleeding ex-Arsenal croney wheeled out for a comment. Uuuggh.

I know Bent's younger, but still put things in perspective - spanish and italian clubs have at least slightly more reasonable transfer fees. I woulda thought £20 mil at least but fair enough... The Arse did well enough without him last season, but they could well struggle if they lose fabregas too.

yeah i'm glad he's going,he hardly played last season though nd was obviously not injured so i can only presume he was 'burned out' i don't think he can compete in EPL any longer what with full backs seemingly able to run faster and faster.so in that respect its a good move for him to get out now before they start going down hill.
In my opinion I am sad all spurs fans seem to be so happy for their demise when we should feel wholeheartedly that we can beat anyone now with or without their top players, thats how i feel anyway, and i would much rather beat the arsenal with henry playing for them so there can be no excuses from wenger.
A few years ago i felt hurt by wengers comments that Man u were arsenals rivals and not tottenham because he thought they were so much better than spurs.I don't normally hold grudges but i would love to shove the last ten years down wengers throat but i know like the coward he is he won't hang around to witness the demise of the arse

Did you see anything of our 2 games against them last season, particularly at WHL when they were without Henry and Van Persie, plus Fabregas until he came on just before half-time, and then proceeded to run the game from 1 nil down? That game should have been at least a 3-1 defeat and that was with our full side.

I don't see how anyone could quibble with Wenger's comment. For about 10 years the top 2 was ManU and Arsenal, also dominating the FA Cup, whilst Spurs were struggling to make the top 10. From his perspective clearly ManU would be the club he considered their main rivals.

TomMcLaren

bottom line is the hill-woods etc don't want to put their hands in their pockets, and can't get anymore debt out there with the stadium still not paid for. They really need a rich foreign sponsor, but they don't want to sell. Basically, the people who built their recent sucess could be responsible for destroying the club. Ha Ha Ha.

It was the disdainful way in which he done it,he didn't give any consideration to the rivalry there had been before as if he were unaware of it.How could anybody not be familiar with the history of spurs v arsenal derbies or be so arrogant to dismiss the atmosphere and emotion surrounding such contests?
again it is only my opinion that north london derbies are the most special in the premiership if not the entire football league in this country.Much better than man u v leeds manu v city liverpool v everton or pompey v saints

why would they be worse than last year??Henry wasn't a factor, injured virtually the whole season, now they'll be seriously in the market for a quality striker & might easily field a stronger team next season!Next season will not be about them dropping back to the pack, but hopefully us forcing our way into the CL elite!

But Terry Henry was still there in the background.

The psychological impact on Arsenal will be huge, especially with the Wenger and Dein and Kroenke and Hill-Wood situation. They are a club in quite considerable danger of falling down the table.

For the sake of the club the time is now to sell off to Kroenke, it's the only way that things will be able to stay stable. We should obviously hope they fall apart in much the same way West Ham did last season. For that to happen the current board must stay.

Selling off to Kroenke presumably means Dein returns and that Wenger stays, thus no more players like Fabregas departing. They're not in as much danger as I'd like, but will be if Wenger leaves.

Let's not forget this time last year a large number of people here, myself included, thought we had a really big chance of overtaking the Scum.

They are certainly in transistion and Titty leaving will be a big loss, but so was apparently Viera leaving and Overmars and Petite and Anelka and Wright too. Wenger has been pretty canny to date and we shouldn't be so naive that they will suddenly implode. However if the current soap opera with Kroenke and the board continues the instability will not be helpfull.

the loss of henry obviously weakens their squad , i would have preferred to see fabrigas go though , as said on another thread ages ago its the start of the decline . the loss of the confidence and arrogance that he instilled , will make a difference in our derby games
we have a better squad than them and i really think its a matter of getting the right mind set , and a belief in ourselves that will make the difference this season and was the failing last season .

What a difference a year makes.

The figures last year were not in the region of 40 million mate. That was paper baloney.

I think they loosely agreed a price around the 20 mil mark if Henry wanted to leave, but Henry did a u-turn.

Still lower than you'd expect but in line with what he's going for now.

Shevencko money is still far more surprising than this. Chelsea were mugged from the high heavens. He had even already lost a yard of pace when he signed, and if you sell in a few years what will you make back?

choda
25th June 2007, 05:47 AM
I agree that Henry leaving is a big thing.

With him still there and assuming we get the players we need and can very possibly get then I thought we had a 40/60 chance of breaking the top four.

Now I think we are more like 50/50 or even 60/40.

I agree with Jrio that an Arsenal collapse is probably wishful thinking. They still have a way of playing that works for the most part in the prem (break away football, which is fairly inept anywhere else), and a lot of talented youngsters that are well grooved in the philosophy.

I think this will still keep the the likes of Villa and Newcastle at arms length (for now anyway). But I feel spurs this year will be a different kettle of fish, a developed team with some quality additions to the bargain.

In my opinion some people outside of spurs don't recognise the difference between transition, faltering and building from mid-table to begin with.

Arsenal are a bit of both of the former and spurs are the latter. Jol does not get recognised as one of the big fish, but I really think he is one of them.

It is far harder to build a team from mid-table than build a new team from the bones of a top four side. But Jol is moving steadily to building a class team that looks like it will be up there with the best. Soon he will get that credit, but I don't think a major Arsenal collapse is on the cards until Wenger leaves.

Having said that I don't know if they will ever be big contenders again. It seems the players recognise his limitations and they don't seem to have any foundation at the club anymore.

In my view his policy of not looking at passports is a bad one. He has a hog-podge of numerous nationalites and no core of home players. It doesn't give you a spine of solid characters who know the club, culture and football. I think these guys have to be the bedrock of the dressing room in any consistantly successful club.

Over the years Arsenal have gradually phased all of these out and it will be a part of their detriment. :D

I'm still not sure why there is such a fuss over Dein. He was just a fricking suit. He's not Wenger or Henry or Fabregas. It sounds like a gay orgy. Can they not just get a good director of football and move on? But I ain't complaining, I'm loving every minute of their problems. :p

ohhh i wish i could of got online over the weekend and joined the henry party!

Looking at these posts; i doubt there will be an arsenal meltdown in any way (sadly) Arsenal roughly dont get much of a transfer kitty either way but now this has been boosted by another 16 mill!

The psycological effect henry had against opponents was huge; now henry wont have to be double marked or watched more.... Now i can understand more why walcott was brought into the arsenal team. Maybe the scum already knew henry was going so they brought him in as a younger and faster replacement (with henrys coaching.)

granted we all thought it was the end of the gooners when viera, overmars etc etc left; but when they all went they STILL had their main goal threat- now it has been removed. Dont forget that adebayor (****** lol) and all other strikers within the team were probably being taught by henry and now he has gone.

Oh how did i gloat when walking past every single arsenal fan in croydon over the weekend. Wore my shirt with pride and beaming from ear to ear.

On a darker note- arsenal are obviously going to be in the market for another striker. **** knows what youth talent that **** will bring in.... Lets just hope its a flop and we can all point and laugh from a distance! :D

For the past couple seasons ive believed that we've had a big chance to topple the goons; but we wont get a better chance this season! (or next season if ***** leaves)

With Henry gone and Llunberg likely to also, that's the last of the main core of players that The Scum has had with that psycholigical and far superior playing edge over us in recent years. I really do believe we are on a far more level playing field now.
