life long spurs fan, does any1 have an opionion on this ,off recent we seem to buy fairly weak players and players who have not a lot of natural speed, lennon apart, defencively we are very slow, and particularly our midfield are very slow almost lathargic, padestrian like in reaction to second ball, who ever we do buy in the summer i think shold reflect our lack of both these qualities strength and speed.. if we look around the prem and europe many clubs investing in south american and african players who do have these qualities,, chelsea and arsenal and liverpool and man u.. all have these type of players.. why have we not in our squad,,just a thought

Not sure I agree that our players are lacking in pace. Jenas is as quick as most box to box, Defoe and Keane have plenty of pace and King and Dawson are rarely beaten for pace.
I would certainly prefer players with a touch and a bit of skill rather than rely on brute strength like Bolton.

Not many outpace Ledley. JJ has pace and of course lennon but no one else after that.As MJ prefers little + large up front I would like to see a big man with some pace come in in the summer. Look at Darren Bent pace is the only quality he has.

(and Defoe and Keano of course) Also don't forget we have Routledge coming back next season - Routledge on one wing, Lennon on the other anyone?

lee, king, jenas, defoe, keane, routledge, lennon and gardner all have great pace.
to say our defence is slow is a bit daft, need i remind you of king against reyes earlier this season

Gardner has nothing to offer. Routlegde + lennon would cause a defence or two to worry alright

Our defence is far from slow, I think we just lack a pacey left winger and we'd be flying.

indeed a left winger is the missing piece is Jol's jigsaw. although we have Routledge coming back he cant even get in the pompey first 11 so i would like to see a summer bid for blackburns Morten Gamst Pedersen

im afraid i dont share your entire opinion that we lake strength and pace. King and Y.P.Lee are very pacey whilst Dawson is a power house, jenas is also fast and dare i say it Edgar 'donkey' Davids has pace and is also strong when he does move. Tom Huddlestone is also built like a brick-house and this new lad Thomas Pekhart is a big strong guy to lead the future spurs line, according to all opinion. i do agree with you when you said that our midfield is sometimes pedestrian, they love to pass the ball all day but fail to take it forwards and create on a number of occassions but not the whole time

guys we need to be honest and analyse the games properly..next game take a close look at players reaction speed and who gets to the second ball.. to say dawson is fast is an overstatment.. a good player once he learns to pass the ball on the floor.i mean they play on a near perfect surface and shold be able to play a 10 yrd pass to same team..only option to robbo is to kick long.. cos our super fast players move too quickly to creat space..carrick is also very slow ive seen he play better for whu.. findsing space and being creative.. murphy also very slow..along with kelly salteri.gardener is lanky and slow..as for jenas if u class he as fast look again at genuine pace .. eg eboue for arse.. and all of wengers latest buys are very pacy cos he looks to buy players with strength pace and overall technique thus is y they played aging juve of the park..cos he buys great technical players with strenghth and power and pace..many english players too weak..and lack tech ability.look at the comm games hardly any brits win track and field.does that ring a bell or do u stil think dawson or jenas could win gold..mj.buy tech ability with pace and power. kuijt. kalou castellan martins.. and some african originating full backs with classand lualua.. coys coys coys.....

Agree with the above we are to pedestrian in our buildup we need more pass and movement from the midfield we spend to much time passing back and sideways. This doesn't get the best out of Lennon, time to bin the 40 yard hoof from the back Dawson is no Ruud Guulit and I would like to know why BMJ is obsessed with little and large up front

I'm not too sure where you're coming from with that. It's not down to a lack pace by any means, both Carrick and Jenas are quick. Carrick will make driving runs forward, not nearly as often as he should, but he often leaves players trailing behind him, and JJ is very quick.

Having a big man means you have a constant outlet. Someone for the nippier players to feed off. If you put 2 little guys up against 2 big centre backs, makes it very difficult. Obviously this isn't always the case, but generally it helps to have a big man to win the ball in the air, and to hold it up, both of which Mido does very well when on his game.
Look at Chelsea, when they run out of options, they lump it up to Drogba or Crespo who are both solid in the air and at holding the ball up, and most of the time it works.
It's a system, as opposed to 2 strikers just trying to score, there is a method to it. But we just can't always rely on it like we have been.
