although it is only paper talk at the moment it would be a great signing. imagine the strikeforce of Berba, Keane, Defoe & Bent. if we could have those 4 we would seriously challenge the top 4

if we had them 4 , barring injuries we'd have two pissed off potential England players sitting on the bench wasting money , jeez on Friday the MAc **** even used Smith and DIckhead Dyer rather than Defoe and they both shone radiantly didnt they, useless ****ers , still im sure we wont see JD on wednesday either even tho hes never let England down when played from the start.

but i can understand Defoe's lack of international action. he is very similar in style to Owen and as a partnership they just dont work so why play Defoe when Owen is fit

yeh true, but Owen s been injured for years and to be honest, hes lost it big time now hence him wearing the Geordie shirt

That's what pisses me off about england, in the world cup owen was crocked so you think the ideal replacement will be defoe........but wait no he isn't. After the world cup owen is out for how long and defoe starts gets 2 goals and just becomes a sub. Against andorra i think the one where nugent scored (can't member the team we played) as soon as defoe came on he set up 2 goals!

spot on mate, England are shit anyway at the mo, done nothing since we beat the Germans in their own backyard 5-1 , theyve been living on that ever since

lost interest in the england team really over the last 10 years or so , yes the 1996 euro champs was a laugh , and we turned it on agaisnst the dutch and the scots , since then though it has been an uninspired , unimaginative set of performances , with maybe one game in every 9 or 10 worth watching , or offering any sort of cohesive performance .
put the blame on the fat cats at the top , and the boring insipid managers that they have appointed , so i dont really care if our spurs boys get picked , the only downside is if they think playing for the club is holding them back , but you really cant say that is that will be the case when you play for a top 6 side .
i would rather have our guys hungry fresh and with a point to proove

I think Bent should only be signed if Mido & Defoe leave. Otherwise it's a case of too many cooks. Personally I don't know why we're looking at strikers, we all know where we need to strengthen, surely the club does too.

By the looks of it, could be Smith and Bent in, Defoe and Mido out. Not a bad situation as far as I'm concerned...

....to WHAM for £18m and 80k a week? I'll believe it when I see it but this is the club that paid £8m for Upson, who subsequently started one game at a cost of nearly 500k a minute, and wages of 60k a week.

Sky Sports News have just reported that Spurs have matched West Hams Offer and that Bent is torn between the two clubs. I guess now its a case of Ambition versus Greed!!

I may be alone in this, but I'd really rather he didn't sign for us. I just think it'll cause upset with the balance of the team. Fair enough Mido's probably off, but I'd rather keep Defoe, especially after he turned down Villa & pompey.
Why are we chasing 12-18 million rated forwards when we should be getting ourselves a MGP / Petrov & and a Snjeider?

Apparently the Spammers are in charge, offering £75k a week and a 17m fee. Welcome to him on that money!!

Absolutely agree, if we are offering 17mill for Bent then we surely do have more money than sense!
LM has been an blatantly obvious priority for the last 2-3 years and still has yet to be addressed!

how can they sign anyone with the risk of them going down still. they seem to be doing a bit of a leeds, where's all the wages money coming from?
i think bent is worth about 12m, although the market dictates his price. there aren't many others like him about, especially of his age. quick and big and a good finisher. plus he's english. i'd rather we filled the left wing and got a tackling centre mid though.

He wants to join Spurs, the only stumbling block is West Ham can easily just offer him 100k. All this over spending will come back to haunt them.
The reason Yossi Benayoun hasn't signed the contract he agreed a month ago? He agreed 40k, then they went and brought in Parker on 75k. Now Yossi wants parity. It's already begun.

Ipswich get 20% of any fee which explains why Charlton are sticking out for a massive fee. WHAM have supposedly budgeted to spend £50m on transfers which is roughly the increased tv money for the next 3 years.

Peter, Ribsdale, league, division, two.
They are going down exactly the same route.

Our best offer to Bent? 35k a week! I can't see any player taking that over 75k at WHAM. Their offer to Johnson was 90k a week! Clearly they're lashing out to make sure they're not involved in a relegation battle, but also banking on getting good fees for some of their players, like Reo-Coker.

Word is it's 55k, I think that's a joke. He's a one trick pony, granted it's the only trick we currently don't have at the club, but still coming in as one of our highest earners. Ridiculous.

Remember that anything above 12M would make him our record signing - to sit on the bench!?! What a joke. Surely for £16m we could get at least an offer accepted for Robben, Duff, whoever!!

Well I rate the Bentster higher than most on here. I can see him potentially becoming a proper forward, but I still wouldn't pay more than 12 mil, at the most, or more than 40,000 a week.
You're buying a proven goalscorer with pace, good movement and strength, which means he's worth good punt but your also buying a lot of potential.
18 million and 80,000 a week is madness, pure WHAM/Newcastle stuff.
Some peoples say he'd be back-up but I can see him playing all the league cup games and all games where Berb or Keane are injured and all games where it'd be better to rest one of them.
Over a season of fifty games that's many starts. Its a squad game nowadays. I'm not fussed or worried about paying 12 million for a top forward, even if we have two excellent ones already, who would probably be first choice.

The Indie: Tottenham are understood to be offering personal terms of £30,000-a-week, around half of what West Ham are prepared to pay. Quite an embarrassment for them, especially as our top bid is £12m, a generous enough offer yet WHAM were prepared to indulge them in their Michael Owen-level valuation of £17m. I'd expect Bent's agent to be receiiving emergency treatment for stress and a number of our fans to be reconsidering their assessment of Bent in light of his decision.

ITK's on SO are saying we've offered 12.5mil, plus a p/ex and a player on season long loan. 55k a week. That seems to be what everyone is agreeing on.

True. Tbh id like to see Bent in the championship for a season like Andy Johnson was. It would be good to see how he gets on down there. We all agree that Bent is by far premiership quality- but to watch him tear up defences in the championship will be worth a laugh
