Ive read on here time after time, in fact after every match, how rubbish some people think Jermain Jenas is. There is a player who although perfomances are often poor, never really gets much criticism, and in effect whose poor perfomances actually cost the team far more than Jenas's performances as he is critical. That person is Paul Robinson. I feel that perhaps he is living on reputation rather than current form. I think that maybe to up his game he should not always be automatic choice but should fight for his place and it should be based on merit. Radek Cerny has always impressed me when he has played. Robinson this season has let in a lot of "long shots" and i just think a top, top keeper should be keeping those out. Dont get me wrong, i prefer positivity to negativity, and i wont slag off our players as i belive it can seep into their performances, however as a general debate:

should Robbo be automatic choice? WOuld another keeper perhaps a more dominant shot stopper be brought? Should Radek Cerny be given a go? Where would Spurs be in the league if we had a top keeper i.e Peter Cech?? I think that a keeper, more than an outfield player could push us onto the next level......

Right in my opinion you gotta look at why these goals are going in!!

one explaination is WE DONT CLOSE PEOPLE DOWN so thats why half if not 100% of them are going in

Robbo's carrying too much weight tho think he needs to lay off the yorkshire puddings

Interesting post, especially about pushing us on higher up the league. Last season Robbo and the defence were worth an extra 12 points to us.

Although i feel that Robbo should have next season to improve his confidence and form

No i didnt, but thats precisely my point, its not last season now, its this season.... We should judge on current form, not live off reputation.....

He was the reason we finished 5th last season.

He needs to keep his place in the team, we know that he needs work on certain aspects of his game, but i'm more than sure he and perhaps more importantly Hans Segers knew that before anyone else in the world.

Next season he will be back to his best, I hope he retires here.

Fair enough i see your point then maybe Lennon should be dropped as he hasn't scaled the heights of last season nor has keano really so to speak.

If we were drop everyone who hasn't performed as well as last season Wayne, we'd have to play the bloody youth team!

Robbo is still young in goal-keeping terms - he'll be back to his best next term, I am certain.

I'd not be sad if he got dropped from the England set up - I reckon that'd take some of the media pressure off (he's not popular amongst the red-top mafia..) and give his game a chance to develop.

Bear in mind as well that next year he'll have Led Dawson in front of him again and as such won't be found exposed so frequently...

Good thread, well made points

so we agree that our players from last season arent performing as well as they did last season on a consistent basis. why???

training??? confidence???? too many matches ???

was Stalteri better than we thought?? Carrick is missed but then he did give the ball away and set up a few opposition goals which he doesnt do in red

LOL! I liked that one...

As mj briefly summed up in that last post, we are experiencing the pressures of success, and all the extra issues that come with it. This season was always going to be a tough test of our growth, and personally I see us as having done very well with all things considered. We are in the running for Euro qualification again, after getting to the last 8 of each major cup competition we entered.

We've been tested and I feel we've passed;bloodied, bruised and left gasping for breath perhaps, but still going into the 07-08 season all the better for it. I may have mentioned a few times already this season, but it will take another 2 years at least before we are good enough to turn those 1/4 finals into regular finals / top 4 / trophies.

So let's just keep the faith and keep supporting as best we can. COYS

Robbo at times can be good .. very very good and at times he is abysmal especially with long shots.

Also the keeper is only (partly) as good as the defence in front of him and this season our defence hasnt been the best to say the least.

I think the Croatia mishap has led to his poor form

No his form dipped before then. I think he came out strongly after that incident, he's just been very inconsistant since then, whereas before he was just plain poor.

He'll sort himself out, next year he'll be the first name in the team of the year and a contender for player of the season.

You're not reading enough posts. It's been highlighted, a few posters have wanted him dropped and I'd agree this season he's been as poor as JJ. Last season he did perform up to his potential, so much that I couldn't see much between him and Cech. This season, forget it. Seeing Cech again last night made me think there's at least 2 levels between them. This season he 'd struggle to be in the Prem's top ten.

He's mad a bookful of mistakes this season, and has learned from them, and showed that today that he is a fresh and better goalie???

From what I've read/heard, he was as responsible for the three points today as Berby and Keane...

Nice to have you back, robbo!

And if he bothered moving for two Boro headers we would have finally had a clean sheet.

I'd love to agree with you and I don't for a second doubt the validity of your point. However, seeing as my retarded housemates insisted on watching Allo Allo and other such rubbish I was deprived the opportunity of seeing Match of th e Day. :(

What got me thinking was Gerrard's strike and Cech's excellent save..I thought Robbo wouldn't of saved that..moving across the goal like Cech did...however excellent save against Viduka but as I pointed out before he has excellent reflexs within his arm span but its his agility and mobility I question...
