Poland and Ukraine have been selected to host Euro 2012. Is it just me or does this seem like a strange decision? Does anyone know apart from Italy, which countries were also in the running?
It was only a short while ago that 70people(some of which were match officials!!) were convicted of match fixing in the polish league.

Croatia and Hungary. Italy have hosted it twice before so a third time seems a bit excessive. Italy have their fair share of match-fixing and corruption so it's hardly a black and white choice. This will be the first major international sporting event held in the old eastern bloc countries since the 1980 Olympics. I think it will greatly encourage the footballing authorities there to clean up their act. Italy was by far the favourite as it was seen as a safe choice in having the infrastructure and history of successfully hosting tournaments.

i think Leichenstein and the Vatican city were also in the running with the Faroe Islands missing out due to using all their goal nets for fishing.

Recent Italian problems with stadiums and policing probably had a significant influence.
