Talk about the game in here before, during and after...

Already Neil? Can't ya stop them for us for a while? We play too much I don't like it. What happened to the day's we played 40 games a season?

What can ya say? It's Chelsea. I'm shitting it.

I think that sums it up nicely.

stick a few of the kids out and give some of the regulars a rest as we'll need them for seville on thurs.

Also it could give jose something to think about ;)

Chelsea have to think about the Mestalla game, so the Saturday game could turn out to be more difficult than they expect. Rest Berba, Lennon, Keane, and Chimbo, and if there is a chance to get a point bring in the first three 30 min before the end.

we should go in very hard but just about fair in the first 20 minutes, they wont want it and then we'll win.

start the same 11 but defoe for keane, theyre ok for it and we aint playing again til thursday

1-2 to spurs

Balls to that. There's plenty of time before Thursday for recovery, and keeps them sharp. Play full strength and have' em! And when I say full strength I mean play Malbranque ahead of Jenas! FFS how is JJ considered better than Steed or Tainio?? What am I missing that the coaching staff see??

Sorry, daily JJ rant over...

I dont have a good feel about this game.

Although I think MJ was right in resting Keano and Lenny, we need them firing 100% on thursday against Seville. King travelled and appaently felt ready to be on the bench but Jol has left him out, i expect him to be in the 16 on Thursday.

7th in league..still a shout at europe through the league as well...but Sevilla game is MASSIVE ....hedged our bets now to win the Uefa Cup....

Jenas was obviously struggling from the start...and he can be a liability when he's not knackered...

Havin sed that I am quite proud of the Spurs considering we only got back into Uk yesterday..and everyone can see how jaded we looked..when you consider the blue filth can bring on ballack, shevchenko, cole etc we done ok..

just hate losing to those ******s...

Can't wait to the Sevilla game..will b there shouting us onto a euro semi...

Once again we have conceded a goal from 20 yards+, today it happened to be 36 yards and I kid you not my sunday league goalkeeper would have saved that without a doubt!

I cannot understand why Robinson isn't ordered to lose atleast 1 stone in weight, because maybe then he might be able to react and dive quicker, it's not like this was a one off

How many is that now from 20 yards+ this season? it's gotta be atleast 15-20 which is utterly unacceptable, and costing us hugely

Ah 1-0 is no disgrace. When I saw our line-up I had knightmares of a 5-0 defeat, at least. We played bravely and obviously with Europe in mind, which I think you'll agree is far more important. It also shows how highly Keane is thought of, Jol not even hearing of risking him today, even sticks Berby on ahead of him.

Taraabt looked encouraging. Tough love for us conceiding a cack goal, but if we win on Thursdays, WELL worth it.

It was a damage limitation game.
Mido should have scored but i think they did just enough to get the points. I dont hold robbo responsible for the goal. Rocha should have blocked it.

If we win on Thursday this result will be forgotten in an instant. I don't think I've looked forward to a game so much in a long time. I really feel we can win and progress to the semis as the favourites to win the competition. By the way if UEFA decide to let the UEFA cup winners into the Champions League does anyone have any idea from when this will take place, and wether we could get in it from winning the UEFA this season?

jrio
7th April 2007, 09:02 PM
Utter disgrace if UEFA Cup winners go into CL just as if any cup winners go in. Just an excuse to persuade clubs to take the competitions more seriously because their chief execs and directors will see the potential big bucks. Wise up lads, we're already being taken to the cleaners by Levy and co.

Spur
7th April 2007, 09:04 PM
If we win UEFA then we get back in it. Case in point Liverpool Champions League. UEFA wouldn't be able to have favourable rules over the other in terms of champions being able to defend their title. We won't go into CL, that was just MJ dreaming. They should do, it should happen, but it won't.

1-0 wasn't that bad. Wasn't expecting anything from the game, and it's not like we didn't create chances, Mido should have had that header for one, and from then on it would have been a different game. Instead they go down the other end and score. Shit happens, especially against a team worth 1 billion £££.

I think it's a good idea. Why carry on competing for a cup you've already won aka Sevilla now? I'm all for defending your crown, but surely the UEFA Cup is the Championship, and the Champions League is the PL, it's just the natural and logical progression...

Yeah, like the FA Cup. In fact, the CL is the UEFA and European Cups combined. Why just defend the CL when you should be competing in a world league...? You've been sucked in by the commercialistion of sport through tv. Why bother going to games when you can watch it in the comfort of your armchair for a reduced fee? Spur, sometimes you seem like the most naive waif and other times like a grandad. You're a Premiership boy and you should KNOW your history!

Wow, that's a bit harsh I think.

I'm not one for liking things to become stale and stay the same. Over the past few weeks there was the domestic cup in to CL idea and I too think that's a very good idea.

Of course there is limitations, such as a World League. That's just silly, although very profitable, so probably inevitable, but in the normal man's view far, far too wrong. That's the type of thing you would talk about when you were 7 years old, and dream Spurs were at the top of it too.

I don't see a problem in giving the FA Cup a CL place at the end of it. It's a very inviting carrot for a whole group of teams to aim at. The League Cup can keep it's UEFA spot, still a very inviting prize for a whole group of clubs.

I'm stopping short of saying the whole game needs modernising, but certainly parts of it do. Revamping the FA Cup, and UEFA Cup (even though the whole european structure is a shambles) would be good places to start.

As for going to games, I go when I can. My Arsenal tickets are sitting over there on my shelf, and even though I bulk at the price and feel a mug for paying it, I still do it out of my love / stupidity for the club.

Spur, it's the most DREADFUL idea. It's already a joke as the "Champions League" when most of the clubs have not been champions of anything. This is just an invitation to clubs that repetitively play their second string to treat it as a CL invitation. Pretty much like a wild card in tennis. Having said that, remember the last time a non-top four side won the FA Cup?(I know it's tough but look it up in your directories!)

Any trophy has to have value to make it worth competing for...and not just financial value..One of the reasons we follow a sport or a team is because of history and traditions...of course the world moves on and we can't bury our heads in the sand and look through misty eyes at the past good old days...but the beauty of euro competition was that it wasnt the norm, that it was worth fighting for and was something special....now half the prem league gets a shot at europe...u can finish 4th 20 plus points off the top and get a champ league spot...all it means for fans is more cat A games and more merchandise opportunities...of course I want Spurs in europe...but I love the game, and the game sucks right now at the top level in terms of those running it....itll get like boxing...purely hyped up games to boost tv revenue and ridiculous prices to the 'event'...so much fake hype around the media coverage..I know its my job....this season covering games I've lost count of the amount of times we've had to put our ,crowd effects tape on to boost the perceived atmosphere at a ground...give our commentator something to shout over......

agree with this , would advocate , if it was possible , just the champions going into the c.l , ok maybe just maybe top 2 , then 3 rd and 4th going into the uefa , plus the winners of the two cups . there is obviously a danger because of the cash earned through the c.l of the top 2 becoming a monopoly on the c.l entrance , but its surely like that now anyway , and 3 and 4th going into the uefa would make it a viable exciting competition again .
also think that if the g-14 , or is it 18 , want to form a super league then let em , dont want spurs to be in it , i think it will lead to dull sterile games , and although i want to see the best players in the world play at the lane , and visit the lane , i too am getting fed up with the overhyped , jumped up ,media money orientated , tossers that are increasingly dictating and ruining the game in search of corporate profits .

I never got the chance to see any highlights of this game aside from the goal. Could anyone give me a good (possibly impartial) run down on how well we did? Did we just roll over, or did we give a good fight and were unlucky? Did we get any shots on target, and how many times did keano flap his arms around?
