View Full Version : A Cheap Alternative...?

During my daily news round-up, I have come across a couple of articles this year about one Alvaro Recoba. A player who a lot has always been said. A player who i've seen several times and never been left feeling short-changed. A player who can play on the left wing, up front, or probably best used in just behind (although after watching a couple of compilations on YouTube probably not a bad right winger either!). He's leaving Inter at the end of the season as you can see by clicking here (http://www.channel4.com/sport/football_italia/apr3f.html).

I'm thinking a midfield containing Recoba and Lennon, with Keane and Dimi up top would be pretty feared. One, for their maneuvarability. Imagine Keane and Dimi dropping off and playing their little flicks and through balls to two attacking wingers, both of whom can do any job going forward. That's the type of player I can see playing for us. That's the type of player that will move us up a level.

This Guardian article is very nice.

Basically this thread is for you to put forward your nominations that wouldn't cost a bomb, a player (in any position) that would be a cheap alternative. No £10million players, nothing like that. Someone who's out on a free, or from a lower league would be nice...

And i'll have no-one saying Matty Etherington after West Ham get relegated again.

Recoba has a wicked left foot that would not ony sort out our Left-sided problems but also our set-peice deliveries which have been awful of late.
Saying that, we'd have to get rid of Mido first because i not sure any club could handle the ego's!! He is known as a trouble-maker and im not sure he's suited to english football to be honest, he's hardly one to track back and help out the left back!!

a cheap alternative would be Michael Kightly of Wolves, he's going to be a top player very soon. almost guarenteed to be in the premiership within the next 18months be it with wolves or not

Giles Barnes, this lad is going to be special, can play on the wing in centre mid or upfront an awesome prospect :)

Recoba is a class player, and his delivery and free kicks from that left foot is outstanding. But I'd have to echo the concerns that he probably wouldn't adapt to the premiership at all.
