I did because I used to hate football, and none of my family followed it, but in the half term holidays 10 odd years ago my mum wanted me out of the house and put me on a Tottenham training course. From then on I fell in love with football and followed Spurs.

i started supporting them cos i was too damn good looking to be allowed into Highbury home end , i didnt like French or Africans and i dont take it up the arse so i had to come to spurs

when they win the FACUP in your first main season of going to pretty much every game then you know youve picked good esp beating scum 3-1 on the way at Wembers. Ive always preferred going away tho.

To be honest, I haven't supported spurs for that long. I supported Liverpool as a kid (but always had a liking for spurs) and I went through a phase were I couldn't be bothered with football and when I decided I had past enough time without football..I came to Spurs :) Even when we're shite...I still couldn't be happier as a spurs fan.

Bizzarely it was the 1987 FA Cup final. I was only 8, I didn't really care for footy (too busy messing around with Transformers and Star Wars back then) and that was the first footy match I watched on telly. I thought Spurs were a terrific side, and were hard done by. But I didn't really get into the game and Spurs in particular until Italia 90. Gazza, Lineker and Waddle certainly sold it for me! Been with them ever since.

My whole family are spurs fans and i was bought up on stories of the old push and run side and greatest club side of all time, the 61 double winners. Stories of my grandad having my dad on his shoulders as a young lad when White Hart Lane packed in 60000.

My first memory of Spurs is wining the Uefa cup in 1984 and my dad going ****ing beserk.... ahhh great days.

No doubt about it, my kids in the future will bleed lillywhite!!!

good thread.

I wanted to start supporting a club as my mates were into football. But the end result came from the t-shirt design! It was either lovely white and blue or else arsenal red which looked hideous and still does :D

Runs in the family for generations, was the nearest ground for my grandpa and his family to walk to, he passed the season tickets on to my Dad and brothers who in turn passed them on to us. 50+ years as season ticket holders, and still to recieve some sort of loyalty discount from the club, nice!

Had the good fortune to be at both Wembley appearances in '91, happy happy joy joy, but long long before that was devoted to the Lilywhites.

Cut me I bleed white, of course the paramedics were a little concerned by this..........

1994, 9 years old, watched WC for the first time and good ol' Jurgen became my favourite player. He subsequently joined Spurs and I've been suffering ever since!

Well, my mum's a hammer, my uncle's a gooner and my Grandad was a Fulham fan. From an early age I knew the need to instill some sense into future generations...

True north London Spur as well (despite my current south of the river location) - native Muswell Hillbilly...

My Grandad on my mums side was a loyal Spurs fan and I remember going to his with my sister when we were little and seeing all his Spurs memorabilia and him telling us stories. He moved from Stoke Newington to Lincoln when he retired, and when he died my mum arranged to have his gravestone facing south to be facing WHL.

In 30 years time, I want my grandkids to come to mine to hear stories of how Spurs won back to back Premiership/FA Cup/Champions League trebles :D :D :D

As a 7 yr old watched the 67 cup final on a gas powered telly and the older kid next door kept on telling me that chelsea were the best and would win. Didn't like him so i wanted spurs to win.

Then i drifted to being a Leeds fan (revie era) and used to watch them as often as i could. I wanted to go more often so i went to Spurs V vitoria sutebul and was hooked.

I'm with the team I was meant to support and I travel up and down the country :o It costs a bomb to travel, but, at least I see my team

Father grew up in Woodford Green, WHL just down the road, his dad was a Spurs supporter, so was he and it passed onto me.

I had one traumatic experience in 1980. We had moved house and aged 9 moving to a new school fitting in was everything. At that time everyone pretty much supported Liverpool. I decided that I was going to do the same. I returned from school and my dad had bought me a little Spurs plaque to go on my bedroom door. I immediately realised the error of my ways and my 3 hours of supporting Liverpool was over. The two FA cups and UEFA cup then followed. Now if that wasn't a sign I'm not sure what is.

Story number 2. My girlfriend is American and loves her sports. When we got together 3 years ago, just after her arriving, she was deciding what team to support. I made it very clear there was only one option. As a larger amount of the American community gravitate towards West London when they arrive she said maybe Chelski (this was largely just to wind me up and let me know I wasn't the one calling the shots!).

3 years on, the missus is about to light a cigarette, there is a red lighter sitting in front of me. The girlfriend says to me "pass the scum lighter". She is now a fully pledged Yiddo. It was possibly the proudest moment of my life.

first game was actually in the old second division at WHL...v Notts County,I went with an uncle,I must have only been 7...and can't remember a huge amount..we lived in St Pauls Road ..Northumberland Park...ony a couple of hundred meters or so from the ground...being from Argentine stock we followed the 78 finals religously and when Ardiles and Villa came to Spurs that was it for me...been following the club ever since...In fact found a pic of me in our garden wearing the kit from 78-79 era..the admiral one..

First real Spurs success for me was the 81 cup final.......then 82 and of course UEFA in 84...

my nearest club (if u excuse harlow and cambridge) to where i was brought up , i used to work for my grandad on his fan delivering groceries around the hadhams and widford , where the legendary steve perryman used to live and he would take an interest in my early footie career , also glenn was the upand coming youngster of our area , though i only played against his brother karl (and later his pub was my local )

so there was never really a contcious choice to be made , i just was a spur

I started, because when i was young i lived near a family of spurs supporters, and just seeing them in the shirts and the posters made me love the club.
