So what will be the realistic line-up? I'm not sure on the status of Keane and Robbo's injuries but I reckon it will be.

Cerny

Stalteri, Dawson, Rocha, Lee
Ghaly, TT, Zokora, Malbranque

Mido, Defoe

Bench: Lennon, Huddlestone, The Constant Gardener, 4th choice keeper, Taarbat

SurreySpur

I think Keane, Robbo, Beratov will all be on the bench.

Cerny

Chimbonda Dawson Gardner Lee

Steed Tainio Zokora Lennon

Defoe Mido

I'd be for resting a fair few players for this one, surely even we can't lose it now. Keep Cerny in goal, rest Lee, rest Dawson is poss, rest Berba, rest Lennon, and then go all out to beat Chelsea, don't forget, getting to the final = a place in Europe on the assumption that Man U get the other berth, also 1st final at New Wembley NEEDS to have Spurs, otherwise it's just not right.

Agree with KK on the line-up changes. Surely no way Lennon will start. It would be a good game for Taarabt to start in. Don't forget 7 subs are allowed on the bench for Euro games so this is a game where we should be concentrating on closing out the win. I'd bring Hudd in for Tainio in the centre as he surely won't be able to play anything like 3 or 4 games in 9 days. Great reservations about letting Mido having any involvement at all after his statuesque display when coming on. He looked completely unprepared for any action at all, managing to look even worse than the woeful SWP.

Damn it man, stop talking sense, I want all our eggs in one basket, kamakazi style:p Lets play Lee Barnard up front, Leigh Mills at the back and Jamie O'Hara in the midfield, just for the hell of it;) .

And holy superific dogs crap, jrio agrees with me, you feeling ok?

Mido unfortunately, like yesterday, would not quite get the concept of the game he was playing. He wouldn't realise he could use his hands in goal.

Lee needs a rest too but I see no cover for him. Rocha will play against Watford but who will be rested - Dawson or Lee? It seems that one of them has to play 4 games within 8 days.

choda
12th March 2007, 05:32 PM
I'd play Robbo, Stalteri, Rocha, Gardner, Lee, Malbranque, Hudd, Tainio, Taaraat, Mido and Defoe. Then I'd pack the bench with the big shots and use them if needed: Berbatov, Lennon, Keane, Zokora, Dawson, Chimbo and Cerny.

OR should we do this on Saturday?

I think we will win easily against Braga, and if in trouble we can have the big players come on. And don't forget Mido and Defoe know where the goal is, Malbranque and Hudd are both very good players, and Taaraat looks like a sensation.

I'd nearly start this team for the next two games. I think it should be good enough to win both games, even if in one of them you have to use some of the big players for twenty minutes.

The only major worry is the defence, but I think they'd be okay. We should be comfortable winners against Braga and Watford play a rudimentary style of play, they're not going to be running at salty's feet or causing much trouble to the centre backs apart from lumping it.

Clearly it would be a good idea to rest a few players and give others a run out.

Cerny

Lee Daws Gardner Stalteri

Steed Ghaly Teemu Taarbat

Mido Defoe

I'd like to give both Daws and Lee a rest but we don't have the cover for them in the squad. I would have serious reservations about playing Hudd, we conceded two goals after he came on the other day and we can't afford to concede any early goals to Braga. Mido only gets in because Berba needs a rest.

13th March 2007, 11:51 AM
This is why Jol gets paid his money. Personally i would like to think we can put out a medium strength team with a weaker one against Watford.

My team would be Cerny, Ifill (rb) Staleri (lb) Chimbonda (cb) Gardner (cb) Huddlestone (cm) Jenas / Murphy (cm) Taarabt (lm) Ghaly (rm) Mido & Pekhart. With the big guns on the bench.

Would also play weakend team against Watford

spurs61
13th March 2007, 12:37 PM
I'd totally forgotten about Murphy, he'd probably do a decent job against Braga. I think I'd put him in instead of Taarbat who I'd give 20 minutes off the bench.

We shouldn't rest! We need to play our best team, our advancement in this round is not a foregone conclusion. We must make sure we get through. Play a weaker side and we could let it slip.

did you watch "the mighty" Braga? they are pony, it shows you the huge gap in quality between the top 4 leagues in Europe (England, Spain, Italy and Germany) and the rest. Braga beat everyone at home in the Portugues league and yet we, a better than average EPL side, spank them, had the score been 3 -0 Braga would have been lucky to get nil. As it was the ref altered the course of the game but could not disguise the fact that we ought to beat this lot with one arm tied behind our back, I'd even let Hudd and Mido play in this one, maybe even Danny "am i still here?" Murphy.

Rest Lennon & Berbatov. This game is by no means a forgone conclusion, but Steed in for Lennon, and Mido in for Berba is not going to be too big a deal against Braga. With 3 away goals to our score, we'd need a far worse team than that to lose.

**** it play choda and hastings at the back

I wouldn't advise it, at least on my account. Being a playmaker, winger or striker I would only be able to keep a hold on my natural tendencies for so long.

That is unless you like flicks, tricks, give and go's etc. around your own box! This is not to mention that I will be constantly found wandering forward.

In other words, I will be rather like a Brazilian centre-back, that is to say pretty shit!

But, having said all this, if HastingsYid, my partner at the back, was to give the night before with his wife, as a trade... I'd be willing to follow just about any orders the next day. ;)

Let's have a little guess at the score and scorers then?

Anyone who gets it spot on should expect a random stranger at your door in the next couple of days because i'm coming round to shake your hand!

SurreySpur? 6-1? Who's going to score all of those?!!?

I'm going with 3-1, Jermain to hit a couple if he starts and Mido, if he starts also. If not then just replace these with the other strikers, although I expect it to be JD and MID.

Braga didn't seem to be able to cope with midfield runners so i think steed and ghaly might score, i also fancy one of or defenders to net one from a set-peice. Keane and Defoe should have a field day tonight.
If we can score 4 past Bolton and 3 past chelsea i dont see why we shouldnt expect goals tonight! Sod it im going for Lee to score his first goal for the club tonight!!

Expect a low scoring game as our scratch side tries to complete 90 mins without any fresh injuries. Possibly 1-1.

So Lennon and Berb start whilst it's Tainio and Ghaly that are rested. Very attacking line-up but tends to indicate taking off the first 2 on Sunday was with this game in mind. Foolish. And I just don't believe Jol's insistence that he wants to win the FA Cup over the UEFA. The decisions he's made don't indicate that. It makes me really mad because I wasn't wise after the event - obvious Chelsea would get at least a goal back and that without Berb and Lennon they would possibly get 2 or 3.

Huddlestone being brought in just to sit infont of Chimdona and Dawson. This will allow zokora freedom to press forward so looking forward to that.

The first English side in the UEFA cup that warrants prime time mainstream viewing. Got to be said again that it's really Berb who is the main focus of the team. Without him we would be very attractive without any end-product.

Is it me or does Chimbo convey the impression of a man who is so relaxed in his game that it appears to be a part-time job? Originally thought this during the Bolton game when he was often under pressure yet never appeared to doubt his ability to resolve the situation.

Good show tonight, we did what needed to be done and did it with a degree of panache, from what I saw on the old gogglebox. Seeing Dawson bring the ball out of defence at times was a delight and I really can't think of anyone who deserves any criticism.

Other than the ref, of course - did he bet against Berbatov scoring a hat-trick or something?

I know, what a cock. We should have had two and half penalties at least (the half because I couldn't decide on whether Steed's was a dive, although i'm thinking it was).

Talking of dives, did anyone see Dawson's dive in the first half?! How shocking was that!?

An absolutely terrific performance. For the entire first half and the last 20 minutes, we were a joy to watch. At times I thought our attacking and passing movement transcended sporting prowess and achieved art. All three goals were of the highest caliber, and Berbatov is playing so well it's almost ridiculously unfair to whoever we play. His second goal... astonishing. Tom's drilled pass was perfectly paced and flat enough for Berba to control, who's touch and explosive finish was bordering on Zidane like eerieness. It's fair to say, if he carries on like this, I'll want to have his babies!

Everyone played well. Chimbo especially impressed me at CB, he did a great job and worked hard. Salty is also enjoying a renaissance at RB. I will single out 2 players though for slight criticsm:

Lee. Did well defensively, get's up the pitch well and is full of tricks. But his final delivery is bollocks.

Zokora. Had an awesome game, driving forward and breaking up play. But I don't like play acting at all, and when he get's tripped up on his left foot, and he goes down grasping his right calf like a rabid dogs ripped his tendons out, well, I lose respect for him. He also lunges in recklessly way to much. Which leads me onto...

The silly freekicks. We nearly threw it all away by giving away stupid freekicks in stupid places. We seemed complacent when we came out for the 2nd half, and we nearly paid. We have to be smarter than that. OK we're scoring freely but conceding almost as much. That cannot go on.

Anyway, back to the great. As I said that was beautiful to watch and we are seriously impressive now. This form looks like it can take us to really great things this year after all. Still not pinning my hopes on the FA Cup, but the UEFA cup and 6th place look like they might become a reality now. Let's just keep it up!

COYS!

What a lovely night I had.

I play for a perrenial bunch of losers at 5-a-side, and not only did we scoop a rare win, but I scored with a rising drive!

Rising drive? Well that was a harbinger of things to come as I headed to the pub to watch Spurs, I love that Braga scored first, made a game out of it, make us claw and scratch and not be complancent. I said this team were sneaky and would make us worry, and they did.

But come on, with Berbatov on the pitch, I had no worries at all that we would eventually prevail, and his goals were just gorgeous, especially the second - The rising drive! Beautiful.

We played some brilliant football, we should all br proud of our team, since the Sheff U defeat, we've been in title-winning form! I'm loving it.

As for CL I think there is no separation. A moot point as at the moment Toon are on their deserved way out.

Quick point: we all thought that not signing Duff was a great blow to our ambitions. Now? It seems more like a great escape.

I disagree. Duff would of been a great signing for us.

I agree with you chewy he plays with Keano on the international stage and can be our LSP and that can mend a gaping hole we have at the moment, I wanted Duffers as well as I know he and keane ould form attacks, see him tonight during the geordie game?

Another question is that "Should we have got Shay Given" as well?

I'd never want Duff to play for us after what he said. He can rot at Newcs.

Duff didn't play well tonight at all, neither did anybody on the newcastle side. I would definately take him.

As for Given, I'd give newcastle robinson plus £7m for him.

No Way & No Way. I wouldn't take Duff now for anything over £2m. We can attract higher caliber than that. And Given is great (he has to be) but I wouldn't take him over Robbo, who isn't even in his prime yet.

Given is the best keeper in the premiership. You can argue cech is better but look at the difference in the defence in front of them.

yeah i agree , top class , looks a real good pro , if we ever needed a replacement for robbo then he would be my choice especially if he is only 28/29 , he seems to have been around for a long time
