well carricks name is no surprise. i've been championing him to go since we bought murphy and ghaly as someone or maybe two will have to make way. That's only because he didn't get forward enough. From what we've seen of him in the last 5 games i wouldn't sell him for £20m.
Two things to say about that is he recently said that he wanted to start contract negotiations, and that the club might feel we can afford to let him go because hudds can do his job, at much reduced wages i shouldn't wonder.

To be honest all3points relay a lot of stories which have already been done.

Latest rumour is we're after Carlton Cole.

SurreySpur

Why do we want Carlton Cole? We should be aiming for world class strikers instead of reserve team players.

I don't think Carrick will leave. He deserves a pay rise, (he on £15K a week) a new contract should be negotiated asap. I wouldnt leave for the red dickheads anyway we're gonna be on a par with the top 4 next year! Also, £10million is WAY short of what he's worth.

Houdini logic

You think 22 million for someone like shaun wright phillps, and 10 million for Carrick? haha....

Welsh Spur
4th May 2006, 10:42 AM
exactly, nicely put, if Fergie the red-faced ****** thinks he can try and rip our team apart by takin our key players like Carrick, before we've even embarrassed them, especially for 10mill, he can **** off! We need to take note of European teams and hold out, be stubborn, tell the ****er that it's 20mill at least and stick to it.

yer didn't they pay shit loads for alan smith and carrick is way better than him.

SurreySpur
4th May 2006, 11:13 AM
alan smith didnt cost that much, i think he was around the £4million mark, still too much money though!

actually they paid 7m just looked it up. Makes jenas look pretty cheap no?

it does seem a bit weird we've been tying up these other players contracts, and not actually opened up negotiations with carrick. Especially as ledders took 6 months to do. Will certainly be interesting.

well ive read that Carrick is the one who's holding back negotiations... speculation of course...

Would be a serious blow if we lost Carrick. Not to mention it would be a bit of a prickish thing to do considering he came to us and now he's going to a World Cup (I would think). You would think he was smart enough to see that we're a team on the up, whereas Utd really aren't.

He seems committed to the cause...but there'll always be rumours.

Yea i'm sure it's all nonsense.

we're a big club, we're going in the right direction and we're not a selling club and wont be bullied into it by Utd. i think its just pure speculation

Although i hate speculation like this, we have to see it as a compliment, how many players of ours in the last five years have been linked to bigger clubs??? Not many, i can only think of r/sol and teddy, and i don't even think that was in the last five years!

I hope and pray that Carrick stays because i can see him becoming the driving force for next years european campaign! His game is tailor made to the champions league, where opponents sit back and don't harras players like in the prem!

I think in the scheme of things 15k a week is a pathetic amount (clearly, i wouldn't complain, but this is the football world we are talking about), and we have to review our pay policy! We are a big club in europe and we have to start treating our players like other teams do!

i'm surprised you could actually get carrick to sign on for 15k a week. Goes to show not everyone is coining it in (well i suppose they are really). You can also see the advantage of signing on youngsters that way as you save a few mill in wages over their contract. Really hoping hudds will get a game if carrick is injured for sunday. Need to grind one out there, their FA cup run probably being our saviour. i'm already getting nervous thinking about the barca v scum game.

Don't think we can afford to lose carrick. hudds is great but not ready yet. Carrick turned down arsenal for us so why suddenly go to man u. But if he wants to go whats the point in making him stay . no player is bigger than the club cash in . We found carrick who's to say comolli and jol can't find another one????
At this stage we have to trust the board and manager . so far they haven't let us down.

AS for Chimbonda .. I would rather have him than bridge!!!!

AndyHarker
4th May 2006, 06:16 PM
How old is Chimbonda??? Is he that good??? Not really seen that much of wigan this season, (as i have moved in with the missus and didn't get round to installing sky! D'oh) is he better than Lee

To the tune of dance, dance where ever you maybe
Lee, Lee whoever you maybe,
You eat dogs in your own country!

He is a lot more like an arsenal defender in physicality and more direct. He has scored twice this season. Look at lee against bolton ,davies had for breakfast . I don't think he would get away with that against chimbonda.
He's not the best , but I think he would be an improvement...but then they could buy ashley cole , cafu or del horno and they would be improvements!!!

Cheers, we do need wing back who are gonna chip in with goals every now and again!

A little bit of height wouldn't go amiss either, i had a very twichy arse everytime Lee was trying to mark Davis at those headers... Mind you, i had a twichy arse for most of that match!

I've mentioned it before elsewhere on this site, but im gonna say it again, i still think we should try and sign roberto carlos, especially if Real buy Cole, RC could be like the Edgar Davids of our defence, not playing every game but a great player to have in the dressing room and on the training pitch!

I was afraid to say Rc my only two concerns are his wages ( better used to tie up carrick) and defensively he can go off on one at times. But it would sell seats, shirts and prove we have the clout to buy the best!!!
Besides as long as we keeps leds and forest gump( dawson) fit and together my gran could have a crack at left back that's why stalteri and lee got away with it for so long!!! long live king Jol and his spurs

Carlos can join in the same deal as Ronaldo.

Houdini logic

I'd be delighted to see RC come, but he probably wouldn't come to us yet.
