a while ago we were serious contenders for the World Cup, but since then its all been downhill. our manager is departing and the top 2 targets are out of the running. Ashley Cole may not make it, King may not make it, Terry hobbled about all day against Man U and wasnt taken off, Owen may not be fit enough, and the worst has happened, Rooney is on crutches and we know nothing at the moment. this has been built up as our biggest chance to win the competition, can we do anything with these injuries to key players and other key players not quite up to fitness. very frustrating:mad:

We wouldn't have won anyway, at least we have an excuse now.

We have arguably the best squad in the world but arguably the worst person to manage them.

Robbo

Neville Terry Ferdinand Bridge

Lennon Gerrard Lampard Cole

Defoe Bent

subs: Green Dawson Carragher Carrick SWP Beckham Harewood

That would be my starting line up at the minute with our current injury crisis. Still a very strong team and capable of beating anyone on their day.

As much as I don't like him, you'd probably need to play Crouch with either Defoe or Bent. The 2 short players up front severely limit your attacking options.

I've been thinking about this all day, and i think i've got the solution, we are missing are two forms of attack but we still have a very potent attacking midfield!

How about

Robbo

Cole Terry Rio Nevile

Carrick

Beckham

J Cole Lampard Gerrard

Defoe

This allows Carrick to play his holding role, giving beckham the freedom to find the space to pick his passes without worrying to much about deffensive duties, it also frees up JC, FL and SG to play their normal attacking midfield role, leaving Defoe up front to pounce on any loose balls!

The only down side i can see to this, is our players love of 442.

Losing Rooney is terrible but we now have to play to our strenghts, and this is it!

What do we think???

Is this rubbish or should i be the next England manager???

Maybe losing Rooney is a blessing, now Eriksson will HAVE to come up with a plan B

Bent aint short and him and Defoe would be on the same wave length as far as speed goes.

After Big Sam's interview there's only one person I want for the job!

... Yes, it's big Sam!

I don't see why...? We all saw how his team played, banging it up to Davies who would head it on. Except when there was a throw-on, then instead of banging it up to Davies, they would long throw it to Davies who would head it on.

Three words for it... Boring, boring football.

They out played us in all areas in the first half!
He ultilizes what he's got, and that's very important.

Plus he doesn't look like a *****, like Mclaren does

I like Pearce, not alot of experience but still a total nutter who would get the job done

i dont know about pearce, unless he had someone like el tel as his assistant. he's passionate and could keep the players in line but he has actually achieved very little at man city. they were mid-table when he took over and are mid-table now.

That sounds good kinda like Staunton and Bobby for Eire only Pearce and Terry for England.

Let's forget about choosing someone to manage England because they have passion or because they're likeable. Kevin Keegan was absolutely crap as England manager, no technical know-how whatsoever.
We need someone with tactical nouse, I'm not 100% who that is from the men now on offer, but I bloody hope the F.A. do, and that they choose them!

I'd go for O'Neill, then Allardyce, then Mclaren and Curbishley last of the bunch.

All the candidates have proved they can make the best out of limited resources. Problem is, there isn't anyone in the frame that has proven they can work with the best football has to offer. I haven't got a clue who'd make the best choice; Scolari seemed perfect, but typical incompetence from the FA has thrown that one down the drain. Instead of respecting his wishes of not making any announcement til after the WC, they tried to rail-road him into making a decision just to live up to a promise that a mangager would be announced before the tournament started. Why the hell did they want that anyway? Sven should have been allowed to have his final shot at a trophy without a manager elect breathing down his neck, just like El Tel was during Euro 96.

FA? That's about the sum total of what they know.

Scolari wanted the job until he was actually offered it, citing media intrusion as his reason for turnin down. If he couldnt handle two days he wasnt cut for it anyway. Think of the shit Sven has had for 4 years, hes an imbecile yes, but if Scolari didnt realise that this job is one of the most high profile in football, then he would have been the wrong choice anyway. Good on him for deciding this before he took the job. Then the FA would look like even bigger idiots had he taken it and quit in a month or 3 like Santini did with us...
