well we're notoriously crap on boxing day so villa must be rubbing their hands esp after saturdays debacle

having said that we are breaking some traditions this year (well one we beat chelsea) so maybe we will sparkle post christmas time, we need too for the leagues sake tho it dont help when MJ says its not priority , 13/15 games in uefa cup are more important than 38 in the league , in other words he cant trust our consistency (hes learning fast we all know thats our bugbear)

Wonder who'll play up front ?...hopefully Mido will be given longer then the other day. I reckon we will win.

yer i i think mido needs to start, thought berby looked a bit tired. villa usually play well but we should have enough, hopefully with defoe and lenny on the bench. they're also missing mcgann so we should be equally weak in the tackle lol. hope malbranque sorts his first touch out, with possibly murphy to play to get himself a new club too. need 3 points here.

Think its only a matter of time before we score.

Both teams look a little flat and with Villa's defender going off injured it leaves two young fairly inexperienced players which hopefully we can take advantage of.

Can still see a 2-0 here to the Mighty Spurs .. Berbs and Defoe :D

i think we look better when we take our time and build up from wide positions. defoe clearly still has hamstring problem as he won't take anyone on for pace.
the passing has been very slack, and we've been lucky villa look just as poor. we need ghaly's trickery in the box to create. no mido on the bench which is a worry. game is there for the taking. zokora needs shooting the guy clearly doesn't want to get stuck in.

Hes chosen a number of times to play the ball himself when he could have played berbatov in and nothing has come out of it. Berbatov knows it as well and is getting frustrated at him.

Zokora to me looks like one of our best players today so i'll have to disagree.

This situation with Mido is the sort where I go; hmmm, something seems very fishy indeed. No mention of any injury (both on the site and from the commentators) and yet he's been completely omitted for Reto Ziegler...

Well spotted fella, ive thought the same thing for a while now!

There's no denying Keane is more of a team player and better at creating, but goals are what win matches, and Defoe is far more likely to score than Keane is and I think Defoe links up alot better with Berbatov than Keane does.

Cue Defoe bashers....... ;)

Chewy
26th December 2006, 03:38 PM
I've always prefered keane to defoe but defoe is linking up well with defoe better than keane is however don't be suprised for defoe being back on the bench when keane returns.

Defoe is a goal scorer. Keane can win balls, break up plays, set up goals and score goals. We could of won more comfortably today if keane was playing, so many opportunities to play berbatov and defoe playing the ball himself which resulted in nothing those times where as keane would of played into berbatov who had more chance of scoring.

I LOVE both players but have always prefered keane.

Zokora gave away a few balls too easily today but then again didn't the majority of our mid-field? He did go missing a few times but still thought he was probably our best in mid-field.

Berbatov needs a rest, play him against liverpool and then let mido start for a game or two depending on how he plays. Hopefully lennon will be back against liverpool as we could certainly use him right now!

ok saturday arsenal were 3-2 up at home to blackburn did they sit back and defend?? more than likely yes thats why they scored 3 goals in the last 8 or so minutes !!!! (sarcasm!!) we are 2-0 then 2-1 up did we look like we wanted to score more??? hate to say it but we can learn from the scum we cant only finish the likes of charlton off.

I'm sure Mido would have been just as dynamic as Berba and made both the goals.... Look, Mido just isn't as good as Berbatov - fact.

Anyway, that was just what I wanted for Christmas, three points wrapped by Dimitar and delivered by JD. Let's keep the momentum! COYS!!!!!!

Ok I think we now all understand that you have a strange obsession with Mido and he did very well for us last season however we paid £10.9 million for berbatov to REPLACE Mido. We signed Mido this year to challenge berbatov for a place and as a back-up for when berbatov takes a knock or needs a rest. Please accept the fact that Mido is not a good a footballer as Berbatov and does not deserve to start before him. I only said Mido should start a game to give berbatov a rest as we will need him to be on form for the second part of the season.

Easy enough really. Villa never troubled us, but we did lack a bit of creativity up front.

Ghaly was poor, looked too comfortable, but apart from that it wasn't a tough game.

2 goals for Defoe, 2 assists from Berbatov... lovely.

Some really awful football from Spurs, really saved by the spine of King/Daws-Hudd-Berb, the latter really outstanding. Defoe will get all the attention from 2 clinical finishes but he was very poor in the first half, poor control and not passing to players in better positions, especially Berb who had played a ball to him. Pyo was particularly poor, so weak in challenges and unable to cross the ball repeatedly. I was astonished how weak the bench was, due to injuries but having Ziegler, Ekotto and Davenport is far too many defenders. We will need far more options against Liverpool and be better able to protect a lead. Without Berb we would have at best drawn this game.

Anyway It's somthing relating to opinions ..... In my opinion Mido is a better footballer ....he is my favourite one ....not becauze he is Egyptian ....becauze he has wonderful goals in his history.....and served our Egyptian national team so well..and he served tottenham so well also....I don't hate Berbatov ..... but I don't see him making something special for his team .

Berbatov does something special for the team everytime he plays. He links the play, scores goals and sets a damn good example. I don't think Mido is a bad player, but he is what we may refer to as something of a one-trick pony. Berbatov is the best striker we have at the club, period. I'm a huge fan of Robbie Keane and Jermaine Defoe but that doesn't prevent me from being rational.

I would ask that you try to discuss some aspects of our game/club that do not refer soley to your favourite player or restrict yourself to a Mido fan-site.

Well I'm for as little rotation possible unless the team is flying. Look at Berb and Defoe. Their both being played in their positions and given a run. The result is goals. Berbatov is clearly better than Mido and always has been.

I like Mido and he's a very good player but he's not going to be a fixture. Get used to it. He'll play to rest Berbatov or when he's out.

I also think Berbatov is our best striker. I've always said that despite people accusing me of beng a Keane sycophant (which isn't true). I just rate Keano highly and think he's underated. I also think he gets a lot of abuse that's often unfair.

The season is long and we take part in four competitions. So, each player, especially Mido, will have the chance to prove his skills. Personally, I expect Berbatov to be off form from the first weeks of January to the middle of February. He never has played during this period of the year and he will be a bit tired after the Christmas games. From the Feyenoord games onward he is going to score more regularly. As a rule, he scores more goals in the second half of each season.

i was also impressed by his defending and running back to help defend when villa broke. villa were pretty poor yesterday, but had they shown any quality with their set pieces i think we could have struggled. the liverpool game will be massive, i just hope we have berby, ghaly and lennon fit to be creative. gerrard is gonna eat zokora alive. the squad does look pretty thin at the moment, something we can put right hopefully. Without an upturn in our performances i don't see us getting anything out of the liverpool game.

:D

I think he is probably the most exciting player we have at the moment. He's quick in a sprint, got the best feet at the club, makes smart runs into the channels and off the shoulder, can go up against the toughest of defenders and score's shitloads of goals. The only thing I want more from him is to finish those easy chances that sometimes he misses!

totally agree there, mate

It was the same story at his former clubs, especially in the first seasons. Hopefully, he will get better at finishing easy chances. If he overcomes this weakness, he could easily be a 30+ striker.
