Talk about the game in here before, during and after.

Spurs win no doubt. Lennon's out of it as is Ghaly, hopefully O'Hara is on bench again would be good to see a youngster or two get on. Maybe Ledders should have a night off.

Given our imperious home form of late, this one must be odds on. But let's not forget what happened last season.....

A win makes it 11 in a row at home, good stuff, I wouldn't rest too many players, but we're confident on the back of four straight wins and it's a good chance for players like Mido, Ghaly, Tainio etc to get some game time and maybe score a goal.

The one change I would make is to drop Berba for Mido, just to give the guy a rest. Plus it's the barcodes on Saturday.....

How come your sitting with away fans? Make sure you jump up and cheer when we score :)

Mido needs to start this one.

I know a lad who lives in saffend and he has managed to get his hands on 6 tickets for the away end, should be fun so weve snapped them up,all in all there should be a few yids in with the saffend lot,all friends offcourse;)

We can't take Southend lightly, we are close to getting into our 1st cup final since our defeat to Blackburn. Mickey Mouse cup or not, i would love our 1st trophy of the season.

Even though we should respect them, we should be giving some of the squad players some playing time.

I would play something like this:

Cerny

Lee/Salty Daws Davenport Ekotto

Malbranque O'hara Tainio Ziegler/ Davids

Mido Defoe (halftime sub. with Berba or Barcham)

May look a total reserve team, but I think it should be enough to beat Southend, and i'm sure some of the players wants to prove themselves.

Got to look after Freddy the pikey Eastwood we all know he can shoot from outside the box. Robbo needs to be on his game he's been beaten from distance quite a few times this season, having said that we should win comfortable.

i wouldnt take this game too lightly but maybe even take pekhart, hes been scoring loads for the academy, would give the squad some rotation and take no risks on injured players but it would be nice to win a trophy this season. after last season ive had enough of being knocked out by lower league clubs!!

p.s does anyone know a radio station that will be giving commentary on the game? i only ask because no one ever seems to look at the multimedia threads

BBC LONDON should have commentary on the spurs game. I think they're 94.9fm

I think Berbatov will sit on the bench tonight. Yesterday he was in Sofia. Martin Petrov is the Bulgarian footballer of the year, Berby is second, Stilian Petrov (Villa) - third.

Welsh Spur
20th December 2006, 12:32 PM
Lennon, Zokora, Ghaly and Jenas all out tonight.

I'd go with this:

Robbo/Chimbonda/King/Dawson/Lee or Ekotto
Tainio/Malbranque/Huddlestone/Davids or Murphy
Defoe/Mido
Berbatov on bench in case Mido's firing blanks.

See, the big squad has a purpose, if he had less midfielders we would have a problem tonight.

My squad would be:

Cerny
Stalteri Dawson Davenport Ekotto
Malbranque Huddlestone Murphy Davids
Defoe Mido

Chimbonda and Berbatov on the bench as insurance.

This game is important and I do not want us to show them a lack of respect by fielding an obviously weakened team. The fact is winning this match is important especially as Wycombe are through and as a trophy is a trophy and great for an upcoming team like ours. It's the beginning of something new. And some reward for the last 18 months.

I think thats a good squad, mid-field and strikers are good enough to face a prem team. Granted the Defence does look a bit wobbly but stalteri and davenport will be able to hold off Southend.

Eastwood has a thing of shooting from outside the box which is robbo's weakness, thats why I would put cerny in.

id go with:

Cerny
Stalteri, Dawson, Davenport, Ekotto
Tainio, Murphy, Davids, Ziegler
Mido, Defoe

subs: Robbo, Dervitte, Malbranque, O'Hara, Barcham

id take Dawson & Defoe off at half time for Dervitte & Barcham so they are fit for the Newcastle game on the weekend

I would fear Wycombe because they would be the 3rd team to face us from the lower leagues, but there's no way they'd beat us over two legs. Roll on saturday and the draw, looking forward to anyone but Chelsea. And Liverpool. Or Arsenal.

I feel we have to give the Southend team a lot of credit for fighting hard, we always threaten to choke against these little teams, but I think Jol has instilled some extra reserve to pull us through, we only had a couple of real scares in our box, but one has to concede that S'end had a lot of possession, which they deserved. I'd give Davenport and Hudd top marks for effort, the rest of the team looked below par, especially Tainio, Mido, Murphy and Assou-Ekotto. Defoe is a man in form however and if anyone was going to score, it was him.

Great going into the new year still involved in all competitions, usually we are just down to the Fa Cup.

Good times ahead guys, We can dream.

Mido needs to put some weight on the skinny ****.

I agree, he isn't as strong as he was last season so finds it more difficult to get past defenders. I still think he is a decent 4th Striker and would probably start for any prem team outside of the top 5. I hope we dont sell him, we will need him incase berbatov takes a few knocks or needs rested.
