Simple mate, two words; Dimitar Berbatov. The man is on fire at the moment and is definately our number one striker. To be fair we all thought Mido would play with the Berbinator last night, it's the partnership we all want to see. However Berbatov and Defoe seem to have developed an understanding and it would be foolish to discard a working partnership.

Incidentally, I was watchig Mido "warm up" last night and it's no wonder he's alsways picking up knocks and niggles in training, the guy does n't actually do any streching at all, he just walked up and down the touchline half-heartedly swinging his arms. And he was wearing the largest coat I've ever seen on a night when everyone else wore a t-shirt.

D'ya reckon that we're about to see one of Mido's famous and amusing tantrums? By the way you could shorten your post to; cos he's not as good as Berba, Defoe or Keane, but I guess you don't have the heart to shoot from the hip:)

TBH I reckon he's already had one, always picking up these so called injuries the night before, the morning of or the night after a game. The best example was for the Port Vale game when the site put up he was injured...3 hours after the final whistle!

Soon or later we will pick up that away win and I think tomorrow will be a good oppurtunity. We need to keep the esaem side as Thursday altough I think Zokora and Dawson are both suspended.

As for Huddlestone hitting a 25 yrd screamer if he'd been a foot to the right on Thursday he would of scored a goal as good as Essien's.

Welsh Spur
16th December 2006, 11:32 AM
Zokora is suspended, Dawson will be if he picks up another yellow tomorrow as he's on 4.

Same team I reckon, Zokora will have to be replaced and I would go with Tainio if fit or Malbranque in the centre as we haven't seen it yet.

Spur
16th December 2006, 12:36 PM
Same back four, and top two. Tommy Hudd, Steed on the left, Lennon on the right and Ghaly in the middle.

I don't think Ghaly gets enough praise on here, he's a top player, always looking to play at 100mph and creates a lot too.

Check bbc mate, Dawson has 4 yellows in the premiership. If he picks one up against Man City, then he will be suspended. He has one in the league cup also but it doesn't count for the prem as far as I know.

Yep I'm all for this, I do really like Ghaly, think he's a very handy player. I'm still in the Davids camp though, and I would like to see him start in Zokora's place. I would rather he stuck around for the season, played a few games and stayed with us as a coach. He's apparently been invaluable in training Lennon and Defoe.

If he was suspended the site would tell us no?

As for the Davids comment (Gino), then yea I agree I would love him to stay on as a coach and have heard some great things about him coaching the youngsters for an hour or so after training.

He can also too easily be stopped on the right by doubling up because we have no real outlet on the left. Tomorrow he will probably be up against Thatcher who I've seen crumble against Ginola - in this situation he must concentrate on not beating himself before he beats the defender. Very impressed to see the work Zokora did on the left in midweek with his running that opened up space. The ideal midfield looks like Hudd, Lennon, Ghaly and Zokora/Malbranque. Full of dynamic passing, movement and plenty of shooting.

Lennon has looked more impressive when he has license to move across the midfield. On the left he lacks penetration with crosses and his right foot has a markedly less impressive touch. He has a lot more to improve than the Hudd who we've taken too long to include as a regular player. Carrick being so influential last season was the major reason for that, but he should have been in at the start of this season.

There's an excellent chance of victory tomorrow. City have been resolute at home in not conceding but have had 3 nil all draws with Boro, Blades and Watford. We need to be looking to an inspired partnership of Berb and Defoe to capitalise on the midfield strength of Hudd and Ghaly.

Your right about him being good, and suBerb's comparison to Berba isn't exactly far-fetched in my eyes.

And seriously, who is going to mess with suBerb when he says something about Berbatov? He's named himself after the player FFS!

Also no Dawson which IS apparently due to 5 bookings. Didn't see this mentioned anywhere apart from this site where there was no common agreement on it. Presume Lennon's injured - not as if he's being saved for Southend, surely? Bench looks very weak and I thought Gardner was still injured.

this would be the perfect time to win our first away game. if we do pick up all 3 then we can really climb the table and start challenging for the top 5 again. we need a big performance form the Hudd again and i think Malbranque will also need to be on song in the middle of the park.

also it being MJ's 100th game in charge, one would hope that the players would want to win it for the gaffer.

shocking performance from the strikers today, i thought we lost the will to play it forward in the second half as they just couldn't keep the ball. changed when we brought mido on, but why does it take jol so long to move when we obviously need change. tainio was largely anonymous again. it was like playing with 8 men half the time. we could so easily have let it slip, and diver joey did us a favour being so theatrical, as steed clearly chalenged without getting the ball. some good performances, but the worst i have ever seen from defoe and i'ma big fan of his. he played like he had a move away on his mind.

FFS what happend? we almost lost everything good what have made in 1st half. Even Malbranque tackle at the end look like penalty...so, we were lucky there...

Just back from the match, well after a celebration pint aswell :), boys played well. Ledly had a great game!

Btw...Mido WHO? He came on and did **** all, he was only on for 5mins and was too lazy to chase the ball and keep the ball which is why i assume he was brought on in the first place. Berbatov worked hard and was unlucky not to grab a goal...I ****ing love this guy!

Huddlestone is ****ing awesone, had a great game as usual and got a goal for his efforts. Davenport also had a really good game for once.

Ghaly was awesome, Steed was awesome but went a bit missing at the end, probably due to tiredness. Tainio was m'eh.

Robbo - 7/10 Didn't have much to do
Chimbonda - 7/10 Had a good game overall
King - 10/10 Kept our defence Solid
Davenport - 9/10 Played good for 90mins and got us a goal
Lee- 7/10 He's great at going forward but then doesn't do anything
Ghaly - 8/10 Very productive! Worked for everything and is physical!
Steed - 8/10 Although he went missing at the end, he was getting good runs down the left.
Tainio - 5/10 He was kept quiet most of the game
Huddlestone - 10/10 Awesome kid I love him! Got us our second with a great goal.
Berbatov - 8/10 Worked hard most of the game but got very tired at the end
Defoe - 8/10 Exact same as berbatov

Mido - 3/10 Lazy!!

A lot of awsome players then. It sounded like we could have had 4 or 5 in the first half.

From where I was sitting anyway, yeah :) I am looking forward to watching MOTD2 though for better angles etc.

i thought mido did well when he came on, i think we had more time with the ball held in their half when he came on than the other two in the entire second half.
we started to get steed and ghaly linking again. i'm disappointed with jol for not being proactive though, if it ain't working sort it out and quick. also get some fresh legs on.
bit worried about lenny being out, need him fit for xmas. noticable that o'hara made the bench and not murphy or davids, think both must be leaving soon.
hope o'hara might get some minutes against southend.
we have to beat villa and get a point against the scousers, we'll need everyone fit for that game.

The only thing Mido looked like to me was greedy and trying to impress by trying to do everything on his own. He could have slotted Berba in for a chance near the end but instead tried running it round another player and got tackled. Not very impressive.

The strikers didn't play badly today what the strikers suffered from was just poor finishing. JD had a few and so did Berba, should have at least got a shot of in the first minute but ball seemed to go trhough him. Funnily enough he did it in the last game as well.

superb 1st half obviously , but when we were 2-0 up and cruising it seemed that berby and defoe wanted to seal it with something special rather than going for the easier options , they seemed to get carried away with the ease of it all .

a laboured 2nd half , but city had to be better than the 1st , agree we looked tired towards the end steed especially . tanio i presume did a lot of work off the ball , hard to judge on the t.v , didnt seem to do much when he was in posssesion .

hudds , sublime in 1st half , dictated everythng , quick feet for such a big guy and showed his full range of passing . second half he looked a bit overrun , and we gave city with barton and the fella that fortunatly come off injured much to much time to dictate play . this was a time for davids to replace steed and bite some ankles (was he on the bench ? )

i thought their finishing and ball control was pretty awful today. usually JD is in his element with the ball at his feet and a couple of players to run at, but he just kept making the wrong decisions, and berby and defoe were too far apart too often, probably a consequence of missing lennon. I can accept the occasional bad performance but it was defoe's arm flapping that got on my tits. i'm not surprised we stopped passing to him as we was squandering chances and losing the ball all the time. I hope berby and defoe are going to get along also, there seems to be some friction between them. I suppose berby is the new king in town.

I don't really think theres any friction really. It was a tough game for the forwards when you're up against a physical side like that. Berbatov kept getting bashed in the air and the defenders tended to close the players down very quickly.

Granted it wasn't their best performance, but seeing them getting annoyed is to be expected when things aren't going quite right. I would rather see Defoe get pissed off than not appear to care.

Pure technique.

Okay, I've finally seen the goals off Youtube. I'll be watching the full highlights when I get home.

But that's one hell of a goal from Huddlestone! Catching it on the half volley, with that much power is , as JJ says, startling technique. Davenport's goal was a carbon copy of Dawson's goal against Chelski. Clearly something they work on. He's not as good but he's a very good understudy for Dawson.

Will have more views when I've seen the game proper.

First away win, first of many I hope!

Well how bloody typical! SkySports Football Special - highlights of the games - has 40 mins each for Chelsea & Man U , the latter of which was Live 4 hours before, yet barely 5 minutes for us!

Anyway from what little I saw, the forwards were a bit misfiring, and I notice that we leak a goal from the left side again. Davenport came across the right back, to cover presumably, forcing Lee to go central. This is where we're missing a dedicated LW to track back and cover I feel.

The away win has been achieved, the next target is to keep a clean sheet. Let's see what happens in the transfer window.

.
THATs WHERE CHIMBOS WEAKNESSES ARE, COVERING BEHIND (oops) a fellow defender he was there but he was right behind davenport not cutting off any angles for the cross which then easily beat him . ok he was also covering an attacker but he could have done both better

transfer window = no one coming in of any significance we just need what we have to be firing on all cylinders

a few could leave but no one who's playing as starter

Yeah, huddlestone has to be one of the 1st names on the teamsheet at the moment.
