Berbatov and Defoe to score

What do people think, should we rest Berbatov and give Mido a run out, or do you think that is stupid and the best players should always start???

I would stick with Berbatov and Defoe. We need them playing alot to keep the form up and get the partnership going. Take them both off after an hour if need be, but i would start them.

Definately berby and defoe,we need to win this game for two reasons.
1st to finish top
2nd to shut them romanian muppets up
seriously we need to keep the winning team together and keep the partnership going instead of keep swapping and changing, should be a good game with us winning 3-1

id like us to keep the same team that beat Charlton together for the city game so id rest a lot of players, my starting XI would be:

robbo
stalteri
dawson
davenport
asoou-ekotto
ghaly
zokora
davids
ziegler
defoe
berbatov

bench: cerny, chimbonda, murphy, barcham, mido

id like defoe & berbatov to be taken off after 45-60mins so to keep them fresh for the weekend.

Stick with the majority of the team who started against Charlton, perhaps with exception of Ledley and Chimbo if still nursing a knee injury

we're not going to lose to Bucharest, not at home. i think players need a rest every now and then, now especially what with the christmas fixture build up around the corner. we have a strong and deep squad, this is the perfect time to use it, a game that we dont need to win. its not like we would be fielding a weak team, it still has a number of internationals in it.

If JD is out then its the partnership we've all been waiting to see, Berba and Mido, big person with big person.

At least with the two big men up front Robbo will be able to smack the ball downfield till his hearts content, if we have midfielders winning the knockdowns we could get a lot of joy out of it.

Yeah that would be an interesting one, with Hudd,Zokora and Ghaly in a midfield three. Its good that we have options although i expect MJ will start with a 4-4-2.

It's game we need to get a result in but a little experiment could be used, i think it could be quite exciting, there is enough protection with those 3 in midfield.

Me too (it's gonna be ****ing cold as well), ridiculous to charge the £ they are for what is TBH at best a 2nd rate European game. What the hell will they charge if we get to the semi final!! A lot of season ticket holders are making a stand against the rip off prices but it's rather futile as the tickets will just be snapped up on general release.

That said...........COYS

The club have been contacting corporate members and box holders and offering tickets for free. My mate has taken four tickets in the West upper. So clearly this "stand" by season ticket holders has sort of worked, the club don't want to end up with a half full stadium tonight.

Well let's see now, Liverpool charge around £20-30 for a ticket to the Champions League matches. That's a better competition and better opposition. Man U charge around the same, maybe a little bit more. So clearly tonights game is "second rate" at best, a first rate tie would be against top class opponents in the Champions League, not the second team from a fourth rate country. This isn't "a few extra quid" the club are demanding, it's just short of 10% of my season ticket cost, and you don't think that's taking the piss?

I am thinking like this: if you are a real fan, then you will pay even 100 more to see the favourite team. I wanted to come to London for this game, but unfortunately, the job wouldn't allowed me to. If I could take few days off, now I was in London. But I am here, in Bucharest, waiting for the game. My only wish is that we will make a nice game. I'm not thinking about winning, as this won't happen, for sure yr team will win this one too.
If you'll allow me a joke: you should pay more to attend this game, in fact you have a one life-time chance to see Dinamo playing :)
Thank you! No offence, please! May the best team win!

Apart from the fact that i live too far away to get to midweek games, 'Real fans' have had their season tickets for years without any Euro football. It gives others a chance to go and see the boys now that we're in it.
In any case the comp starts proper after this game :) and depending on who we draw it will dictate whether i make the effort to go or not.
i'm not a fan of this league system bollocks. In fact my goon mates who r ST's (sad twerps ;) ) dont go to any of the CL league games and that standard is deemed to be higher than uefa cup.

Had a feeling that Ekotto would come back for Lee and it was widely thought Zokora would come in for Tainio, due to being banned for 2 more league games. Presume Ghaly is in for Mal with an eye on Sunday. Defoe is starting but I'd imagine would come off early in the second half if the result is fairly secure. The bench is very defensive and illustrates that.

JD didn't look fit at all. Should have come off - shouldn't have even started.

Not much to say other than that. Can't believe we conceded, and we should have won by a much bigger margin.

jol cracked me up calling gorgeous gabby 'darling'. the FA will probably do him for sexism.

thought the performance was good, midfield working well. lennon had another practise match on the left and ghaly again proves he can change games with his skill. I'd just like to see us use him more on the right, to take on the full back as he seems to beat them more often than not. zokora was good going forward but again often is too withdrawn. Hudds had another great game and he is getting better and seeing the runs now, i really like watching this guy play. benny went walkies again for their goal, i have major doubts about this guy. he was quoted as being able to play left side so try him there in the cup games.

I disagree, JD was fizzing around everwhere, the way he took on his first goal, his touch was spot on tonight.

Gino Ginelli
15th December 2006, 08:40 AM
Well after all that bluster from the Dinamo fans, it was a doddle. I think we actually fluffed so many good chances to make it 5 or 6 purely because it was too easy at times. In fact we switched off completely at the end and let them score (although maybe Ekotto was to blame for lax marking).

Defoe was the man for me tonight. Making dangerous runs, putting his head down and having a crack, just what he does best. Berba was excellent also (absolutley pinged his goal) but got the impression he was a little arrogant at times cos he's the top striker right now. He had a go at Hudd when he got in the way of Toms shot early on. Personally I think Tom did the right thing.

Was superb the way the fans cry "Shoot" whenever he get's the ball. You can see he loves it as well. He'll get a belter very soon.

Zokora and Benny are still very sloppy on the ball. For a their desire, work rate and gusto, which is to be admired, they make poor decisions sometimes, and lack confidence in playing it forwards. Would seriously be playing Davids ahead of Zokora right now, and I think we'll continue seeing Lee at left back in the Prem.

All in all though, last night was an excellent performance. We made an apparantly formidable side look abysmal, to the point where they rolled over and died. Lennon did well again but proves that he should really be on the right, and he needs to improve his delivery (which will come). Gahly looks very handy to me, I like him as a player. King, Dawson and Chimbo were as solid as ever. Would like to have seen Mido get a run once we hit 3-0, but hey. He'll get a chance I'm sure.

Alround ace, ness. The finals in Glasgow isn't it? Let me know what I have to do to get tickets!

I don't know what you've expected to see, but I was sure that Dinamo will play a shit football. They came to London for shopping with their wives and girlfriends... That's it, i'm happy that it was only 3-1.
Anyway, thanks for hosting me on yr forum, congratulations for the victory and all the good luck for the future.

Agree with most of the points you raise apart from the above, Davids for me has lost it, yes he can harass and harry and generally annoy people but that's it, his touch and passing has gone, Zokora is a box to box player with a turn of pace.

Davids will rightfully be off in January perhaps to West Ham or Pompey to join the other rejects!

great performances all round from the entire bunch last night. my vote for MOTM goes to berbs. i thought his movement was excellent and provided real headaches for the below par romanians. it allowed defoe time and space to get in between defenders.

on another note, im glad im not the only one who thought we had a player called SHIMBOMBA playing at right back last night

the hudd was also immense last night. i think he is undroppable right now and is a greater athlete, passer and tackler than carrick ever was. him zokora and ghaly all played very well together and interchanged positions really well. the pressure they put on their midfield and defense opened up lots of holes for the front three. about the front three though, id have liked to have seen lennon roam about a bit and not stick to the left flank all night. however, his game improved alot in the second half and he'll only get better with age and experience.

id also like to praise assou-ekotto. after an indifferent last few games and being dropped, he came back in and had the game of his spurs career, he was excellent. more of that please benny.

Davids will rightfully be off in January perhaps to West Ham or Pompey to join the other rejects!

thats a bit harsh, he doesnt deserve such a fate. tut tut

A sumptous performance. Yes, Dinamo were shit, but we still had to go out and get the goals. We were great. The front two were outstanding, Lennon on his unfavoured side was excellent. And I really liked Ghaly too. Hudd is just pure class, and we were untroubled at the back, except for that silly last minute goal. What a kick by Robbo to Defoe, it's GREAt to see Jermain in this sort of form.

Ekkoto looked ok for me , he only 22, payed 1 dozen games in prem, he,ll be good for us in long run, he dont hack the ball forward is very composed and passses to spurs players, to feet and he really doesnt get no help from left mid, he needed a rest, he had a recent court case, in france dating back some months, so i guess it effected his recent performances, overall beny is a good left back, and will improve with experience, defoe was sensational, couldnt be picked up, and as i said in earlie posts, he always opens play up by running towards the oponents goal , unlikrobbie who more tends to come to the ball, therefore compressing play, if we loose the ball the opposition is on our doorstep. coys, man city beware, berb and defoe.....

It was top grade stuff, but am I the only one who thought he didn't look fit?

He always seemed to be fidgeting about, and I don't think he made many great runs off of the ball. Not saying he played badly, just didn't seem 100%.

Or maybe it was just that I knew he had come in with a knock.

Still, Team News is up on the site and he seems to have got through all right.

he was 50/50 before the game, and he scored 2, but more importantly he stretched their defence, he and berba seem to work their way to goal, something we have not shown enuf this term, definetly an asset to the team, as is keano, mido has a lot of catchin up to do in terms of contribution to the team play. strikers need to have efforts at goal, ours wernt doing that , wernt geting shots off, finding space to make a shooting chance, their getting their now,

And add to that the midlfield driving forward and supporting. Virtually every attack at least 2 of the 3 were supporting the attack. It was a real performance on Thursday and although the opposition were piss-poor it didn't detract from our great play.

I think you are.....if he can do that at not 100% then what can he do when he is fully fit? Defoe knows he's got a chance with the injuries to Mido and Keane and fair play to him, he's taking it with both hands.
