it makes a change this year that i'm not looking foward to the close season to see who we'll buy, not because i don't hang on every snippet of rumour, but usually our mid table mediocrity has been settled and i'm fed up with football, and the hopefull squad improvements are all i've got to hang on to through the summer.
Not only are we still battling it out in the league, but in the last 3 games we've played very well and i'm glad i won't have to go totally cold turkey until august for my footy fix, coz i'm really up on it at the moment. Can't wait for bolton now although i don't suppose it'll be pretty. Really hope we bury them as Sam the mouth was dissing us after they lucked out at home. Come on the boys.

the bad thing about it being a world cup year is the price of all decent players goes sky-high if they've had a good world cup, which if their worth buying, they will. but looking forward to the footie all the same

It also means the value of mediocre players who have a good five or six games for an over-achieving nation gets inflated to a ridiculous extent. Just ask Gerard Houllier.
Thankfully, Sugar Marty Jol is far too shrewd to waste money on such friperies and will know exactly who to be looking at before a ball is kicked. And knowing the way our boardroom like to operate, will probably have got a contract drawn up too!
Let's hope England round off what has been, thusfar, a quite remarkable season for us Lillywhites.

May be able to snaffle some young international talent though.

yer noticed chelsea are snapping up a few pups now, lets hope comolli has the contacts to nick a few himself. Would def like to see lovenkrands come in on a free. This talk about blackburn is interesting, i was surprised how quick lucas neill was, so he might be worth a punt with a year left on his contract.

I dont rate Neill anywhere near our current backs, who are under inceasing scrutiny themselves... Neill is a dirty player, maybe more suited to the Arse!

There will be a huge influx of second rate 1 game or 1 cup wonders and the EPL will be flooded with em! All at a huge price too.

I dont think Spurs will fall into the trap of buying these 1 cup wonders, bit more shrewd these days with there transfer dealings, I think that Comolli has players already in mind to add to the squad, will be interesting to see who the stars will be in the world cup this year though.

Although i didn't mean Spurs would buy this kind of player, it is certainly possible. We need some new key players but we need potential not pan flashes.

He played well against us in March and looked really promising. lively and intelligent. Scored against us too!;)

he would probably be another one for the future if we bought him, think we could do with a few players for the now, with experience and a winning mentallity - I know, easier said than done :)

I dont think we should be lookin to buy players of this quality, if they were any good they'd already b at a top side.

He's still young! Brom paid 3 Million for him and he's doing well after coming from luton. And by your reckoning all good players would be already taken?

Davies is a shocking player. He just cannot do the basics that a defender should do, he is linked with Arsenal too so I say let 'em have him. No sense of communication at times, with the goalkeeper mainly but others as well, I can go on.
The reason he would look any good at all is because he is in a bad team, a team that rely on the defence far too much and rarely boss a game. King, Dawson, Davenport, Gardner - all ten times better. I would be very upset should we buy him.

ok am starting to agree dont think we do need him, we have quality defenders and do think if we are adding to the squad it needs to be someone with experience

Nope no way. He spent about 30million in one article.
Kuyt and Iaquinta will both be over ten mil no question, if you want any Italian striker at the moment it should be Luca Toni anyway. Hopefully he will be leading the Italian attack this summer too.
Phil Ifil is a fair enough comment.
Rafael van der Vaart is a central midfielder, hence the summer signings of Tim Atouba and loan acquisition of Reto Ziegler that HSV made, 4mil? As far I know he is in thunderous form and will cost closer to 10.
In regard to Edgar, no doubt he has not been player too well, but its not because he is too slow or too old. He just hasnt been in good form. Stray passes and lack of control for being old? You crazy? Getting old means poor eye-sight and a want for wearing slippers.

How old are you?
Were talking top level football here. Getting old in this game doesn't mean zimmer frame it means as in many cases, slow reactions and bad timing. If that ain't it then he's lost his touch. You can't deny the last 10 games he has been less than good (Arse game excluded). Here we go on the Davids case again!

I was exagerrating somewhat but nevertheless I stand by those comments, blaming bad performance on getting old is ridiculous. The first half of season he was three months younger and playing out of his skin, you think getting three months older makes a difference? In three months Edgar Davids has gone from a hero to this old pr*ck we should get rid of? It makes no sense. You cannot blame, and I am not saying he hasnt played badly because he has, but you cannot blame bad performances on old age unless it is continually playing badly at a level obviously above you. Anyone who says this applies to Edgar Davids is a fool. Think about it.
It is just lack of consistancy and bad form. Something EVERY player goes through no matter what their age.

lets get off Davids case here, yes he has lost a yard or two of pace and he is no were near the quality player he used to be, but he wasnt only brought in for what he does on the pitch, its his mentality off the pitch, his presence and experience alone are worth the wages he gets paid.

Yeah Yeah Yeah! fact is he has not played anywhere near as well as he did when he was at his prime. he has faultered and for what ever reason i don't know. he's also getting bloody old!:p
