MJ was commenting on JJ being an England squad regular but not breaking into the team.
Jol said: "Jenas has all the qualities to become a top player. He is good on the ball and has unbelievable legs. But Steven Gerrard scores 15 goals a season, so Jenas must develop these qualities, too."
Exactly. Even those of us highly critical of JJ think that this is the kind of target he should be aiming for. He does have the ability but seemingly lacks belief at crucial times and the appetite to drive the team forward. Perhaps he needs to develop a sense of arrogance to believe he can really do it. When we are lacking invention and drive there is a feeling that JJ is the player who should be supplying it. I remarked on another thread how in the second half last season against Everton he set up Mido then headed the second. I don't think he will ever rival Gerrard but surely he can be as prominent for us as Cahill is at Everton?
