As it is looking increasingly dodgy that Owen is going to be match fit in time for the World Cup, who would you start with alongside Rooney?
Does Defoe have a chance of starting, or would you go with Bent, Crouch or any others?

I don't think he'll start, but think he should definately be in the squad.

If Owen is injured and Rooney is inked in as a definite starter, who is going to start with Rooney, why not Defoe. Please not Crouch !!!

I just don't see it happening, JD has never really got given a proper crack with England and I don't think Sven would throw him in now. And yes, I could see Crouch start with Rooney before Defoe.

Robbo are you saying, start with Owen and rooney, if fit, and then are next best option is rooney and Crouch. Or can you see Bent going to Germany instaed of Defoe ?

I'm saying start with Owen and Rooney if fit. Leave Bent at home. But then if Owen isnt fit, I believe Sven will start with Rooney and Crouch.

I agree with Robbo on this one, If he does go i will be suprised if he plays at all. He has not been given a chance, even when he seemed to be the best option when owen was injured SGE played only one up front

Owen and Rooney will be his first choice and will probably bring Crouch on before the 4th choice whether it be Defoe or Bent. He'd be lucky to get two games out there.

I think it is an insult to all players concerned when Owen, who could not even get a game for Madrid, and spends most of the season injured can walk straight into a world cup team.
If we are going to talk about what he used to be like, then can we not do that for Defoe and many other players?
You should be picked for your form, not who you were.
I know it is not really a one man team but let's be honest, Rooney is going to put the fear of God into most defences and he is the biggest threat we have to offer.
As for Crouch, a Spurs reject, the only reason he is even picked for England is because he plays for Liverpool. Since when did being tall qualify?

We could have that discussion all day long mate, for a long time the England side has not been picked on form, it's been picked on reputation, sponsorship deal and god knows what else.

In my opinion Defoe is a cast iron dead cert to go to germany. it is just idle speculation and media pot stirring to suggest otherwise. people jump on football bandwagons too often in this country. Just because Bent at charlton is a mediocre fish in a tiny pond and outscores his colleagues all of a sudden he's the best thing since Andy Johnson. look at the ordinary players who have earned 1 or a few caps just because they had a good run / season - dion dublin, andy johnson, darius vassell and michael ricketts!! the certain 4 and the best 4 are rooney, owen, defoe and crouch. End of.

Agree with Robbo on this too.
The starters after Rooney and Owen is Rooney and Crouch, only Sven and God know why because i'm better than Crouch. Admittedly, he msut make defences crap themselves, and he does offer something different into a game, but only if your losing with ten minutes to go.
Defoe is ten times the striker that Crouch will ever be. Sven obviously doesn't like JD, i've always thought it. I'd rather Ashton or Harewood or Johnson or Teddy than Crouch.

Defoe will be there.

I think Ashton stands an outside chance, he's looking good at the spammers at the moment. Don't really know if he's had enough top flight experience, but he does look sharp!! We'll have to watch him in the last game of the season...

Ashton over Crouch anyday, strength is Ashton's strength, Crouch looks like he'd get blown away in the wind...

Crouch is more experienced and could cause the Latins a few problems with his height. He is not too bad on the deck either as I've seen him setting others up. Anyway he's an ex-Spur.

If the england strikers keep dropping like flies barney could be asked. But erikksonn won't risk both rooney and owen . it leaves him too restricted if they break down. If he takes 4 then it has to be rooney , crouch , defoe, bent and a fifth would be ashton.
I'm not a big defoe fan at the moment but when he has played for england the service was poor . they kept humping 60 yard balls up to a 5ft player... as spurs do sometimes!!!

WTF...Barnard wouldnt get in....he aint played 90 mins of prem football, and there are loads of strikers, Harewood, Ashton, Beattie, Vassel, hell even Heskey before him!

It is sounding more and more promising despite we've lost Keane and possibly Carrick.
