View Full Version : Fourth Place

It has to be on all Spurs fans minds - fourth place. Looking at the run-ins of us, Ars*, Blackburn and Bolton I'm unsure if we can hold onto fourth.
I think fifth is more realistic for us.

Would you rather finish 4th and Arsenal win the CL? Or finish 5th to Arsenal's 4th but they fail to win CL?

That's a tough one. I'd have to say "finish 5th to Arsenal's 4th but they fail to win CL." Since we can only get on the UEFA Cup at best if that happens so I'd rather them not win anything.

Agreed - couldn't bear them to win it

I don't think we will get fourth place, fifth place possibly.
On the subject of Arsenal winning the CL, it would be disastrous, we would never hear the end of it. :(

Come on Milan, Barcelona, or anyone that the Gooners face in the CL. I'm pretty confident they won't win it, but not half as confident as our chances of 4th anymore.

milan lokked absolutley shite. when arsenal get thru tonite i think they only have to worry bout barca

The ideal situation would be:
1) Spurs finish 4th
2) Arse finish 6th
3) Barca wins CL
If Arse finish 5th, I got this funny feeling that they'll use their G14 membership to lobby for additional slot for English clubs, even if they didn't win the CL. The impact of non-qualification for CL is more disastrous for them than for us. It could mean:
1) Less funds
2) Henry leaving
3) Cole leaving
And with Chelsea picking the top players, Arse can only purchase the scraps like Adebayor and unproven players like Walcott. With no world class players in their team and financial commitments to new stadium, they could well be the new Leeds United. But knowing Arsenal, they will use all kinds of dirty methods to ensure their survival. Here's hoping.

dont underestimate villareal, they're a pretty decent side with some excellent players. it would be one hell of a semi and i wouldnt like to predict the winner of it because i feel whoever does will eventually win the CL. forget barca or milan, the underdogs will win it again!

Yeah let's just hope it's not the gooners.

I hope we will nick the 4th place.
We have been there for so long and i hope that the team will show extra commitments for us to reach the CL.
The season is coming to a close and with 7 more games i believe that we should have a good chance.
Come on you Spurs!

Would we not be better off in the UEFA Cup? Are we ready for CL teams or will it be all over too quickly? I don't think we can compete at the moment when we can't beat Sunderland and get tonked by a Newcastle. Another year may make a difference though!
Sorry Bill! I know your old saying but look, lets aim slighty lower and win the UEFA cup first and do the triple next season.

The thought has crossed my mind.
Winning the UEFA Cup is a touch easier than going straight in and winning the Champions League too.

yeah, id prefer that we finish 5th/6th and arsenal didnt win the C/L. I'd love to see them lose in the final aka bayern munich v manchester utd. last minute heartbreak. brilliant.

If we do get in the UEFA cup, let's hope we don't meet Kaiserslauten..

How funny would this be... we come 4th, arse* lose in cl, they then lose henry, cole, cesc, slip into mid table nothingness, can't afford the repayments on their new stadium and "do a leeds!"

Kaiserslauten would be fine if we only play them for 85 minutes!

Weren't they back then? Um! so were we though.
which really brings it home to me! Shit i spent years watching a very avarage Spurs team and still enjoyed going and getting stuck in traffic on the north circular. Queing for a plastic beer for 10 minutes and burping all second half coz i had 30 seconds to drink it. Strange!!!!
Excitment was bringing on Jose Dominguez for the last five! LOL

i think its drastically unfair that if arsenal finish 5th and win the champions league, they will qualify ahead of the team finishing 4th. if they finish 5th and win the champions league, the most they should hope for is the oppurtunity to qualify like liverpool did for this seasons CL. something should be done to ammend this if it happens.
as for bolton and blackburn i dont think they will finish ahead of us, bolton have a very hard run-in and blackburn dont have the depth of squad and are a bit of a 1 man team, that 1 man being MGP

I've got one of Darren Anderton too. It actually looks like he went into his garden to have this photo taken specially, and then signed it with a biro - any offers?
The Ruel Fox signiture looks like its been printed and the picture is of him 'playing' football, it's also faded a bit...starting the bidding at £2.50 anyone...?

just like to point out that this season 05-06 we didnt have any superduper stars, we didnt have any multi million pound imports , we had a team that played for and with each other and for the team.
We had a team that was consistent , pretty much the same players week in week out and guess what, they got to understand how each other played.
But look i mean seriously we had Stalteri in defence, who was the left back before Lee? i cant rememebr,Dawson and King (every game then big thing) we had Keane Defoe Mido and Barnard as our strikers , JJ and CArrick and Davids & Lennie in midfield
Hardly a superstar team yet they did the business (well nearly)

Yeah at the time, didnt think Carrick was that great, but seems I was wrong there, and looks to be the player we have definitely missed the most!
Obviously put a fit Ledley above him.
