we've just had an offer for pascal chimbonda accepted by wigan. There's no mention of amounts as yet but i assume its around the 4million mark, eventually rising to around 5million.

A defence of........... ekotto, king, dawson, chimbonda sounds good to me.

My only fear with chimbonda is he left bastia in dodgy circumstances and is going to do the same with wigan. Will he do it to us in a season or two when an even bigger team come knocking?

If it means we make a nice profit then it won't be so bad.

Yeah thats true, i'm just pleased the saga will come to an end. He was top class last season for Wigan, He netted a few headers from set-peices last season which is rare for a full back, hopefully its something we can utilise, especially if mido, berbatov, king, dawson are all up for corners with him!! Not many teams will fancy defending against that.

PS. A few sites have announced that downing has left the england training session, not sure if its true or not. Sky sports news had their chief football reporter nick colins at old trafford and he was asked if any of the players were allowed to leave if transfer business needed to be finalised, he said yes but he added that SSN had an agreement with the FA that they wouldnt report on it!!

Dave Whelan just saying on SSN that Spurs are very difficult to deal with in transfers. "If they came to us and said 'I'll offer you £1m, £2m' but they don't do that. I don't know why"

Obviously Levy wants to get players for the lowest price so I just presumed he did deal like that, starting at a base figure and haggling until he realises he won't get any further. I'm interpreting Whelan as claiming he expresses an interest but doesn't make any firm bids. If so, I'm not sure what that's meant to achieve other than trying to wear the selling club down into lowering their price. If it was me, I'd just say 'Yeah, we've had enquiries, the price is still X; are you making an offer?' That appears to be what Wigan have done.

It's like Poker, if you got a good hand don't show it too early.

There is not that many top class R.B. in the prem, M.J.is not that happy with lLee or Salty so Chimbonda is a good signing, he has pace and can defend at set pieces which at the momenent we seem to have problems with.

as far as i'm aware he hasn't signed as yet, SSN and everywhere else is saying we've agreed a fee but thats it.......no confirmation of him actually signing!
