Mind you I do sometimes get annoyed when we're actually playing well and some pratt is constantly standing up and shouting;
"Come on you ****ing tossers, step it up a ****ing gear! FAAAACKIN EL!"

Psssh! But banning swearing can't possibly happen

Sounds more like you have a problem with East London and Essex...

There is nothing more annoying than sitting next to someone who knows jack shit about football. A classic and regular example is when a player has to pass sideways or backwards, because no forward attacking pass is on. Cant people see that by keeping the ball and inviting the opposition forward gaps will appear that we can exploit, it is better than giving away possession risking a 50/50 ball.

Last time I went to the Lane I was lucky enough to sit next to someone who did know what he was talking about. Nice bloke n'all.

I can understand it if kiddies are around, but swearing @ football has been around for years it's part & parcel of the game weather on the field or the terrace.

Whatever next a ban on Farting.

unenforcable ..unless u r sitting in an aisle or front seat..or someone complains. Will it apply to players..managers etc..of course not ,another pc idea gone mad.

I think its an insult to have any blanket ban on something like swearing most fan have common sense and wouldn't get to heated around kids for example.

soon it will be just sit and clap politely...like at the library...eventually real fans will stay away and a prem game will be a once a year treat like going to a west end show for families....it winds me up.

Actually guys, the ban is nothing new. It gets enforced from time to time with slightly more vigour, but I remember being given a "final warning" over my language at a Spurs/Filth game back in the mid 90's.

It sucks, but as the Euro 96 crew and their obnoxious suburban spawn become the only people who can afford to go to games, expect it to get worse

Well how many of us went to matches as young lads and heard f'ing and blinding for the whole match? Didn't effect us in any bad way did it?

They go too far with these things sometimes. I'd be against racist comments, or throwing things on the pitch and so on, that's it.

depends on who you throw it at!!!!:) few seasons ago Pires got the ball thrown back at him very fiercely from WHL west stand lower of all places (tut tut thought they were well behaved there)and the french **** only threw it back doh.

and also what constuitutes racist now, was that last sentence racist as i mentioned he was french? or is it only skin colour that counts??

calling Crouch a lanky string of piss when he can hear you is no doubt just as hurtful tohim as henry being called a f*cking ****** when he isnt there

No way dude. I don't doubt that Crouch finds derogatory remarks to his height upsetting at times, but there is no way you can compare that to insults that don't just insult the player but also his family and indeed his entire race. The term you mentioned is particularly offensive as it has it's vile roots in slavery and despite what certian hip-hop stars would argue, has NO positive context.

I'm all for banter and believe football matches should be as free from censorship as possible but I would be ashamed and disgusted to hear any of our fans (who really SHOULD know better..) use such disgusting terminology.

Peace.

Come on you Spurs

What a load of wank! I'd be interested to see how the club would attempt to enforce what is effectively a ban on freedom of speech. Just to test this out, I will be swearing like a ****ing trooper for the whole of the shitting match tommorrow. So accoriding to the club we can't drink, smoke or swear at football anymore? Why don't they just ban chanting as well? Actually, why not go the whole hog and ban anyone from coming into the stadium on match days, the club provide commentary to ticket holders, what more do we want?!!

Yea it is a bit of a grey area. I think insults of race are out of order. It insults a persons family and whole race.

As for other things... I don't know. I do know that if I was called a ****ing paddy I wouldn't like it, but it wouldn't bother me. Same goes I think for physical insults like those aimed at Crouch.

Stopping swearing at a football is trying to tell an Irishman not to drink.:) And it is also a breach of freedom of speech. Freedom of speech should be just that except where it involves the mass promotion of hatred for no other reason than fascism.

As for throwing, I didn't mean throwing a ball back.:)

Where do you draw the line? I think with common sense, which unfortunately is often lacking.
