Home win 2-1 nail biting frantic goal line defending and hoofing it upfield to Crouch, why change the tactics .
We got 5 points from 4 games when I got here, now look at us

Must win game, wont be easy as they have started the season very well. Im going for a 2 goal victory based on bale and vdv playing. Think vdv is a doubt hope he can at least come on. Where is gio? should at least be on the bench he had a great pre-season and could be this years break through player like bale was last year. my team

Difficult one to pick as we don't know who is fit. I'd go for:
------------Cudicini------------
Kaboul---Gallas--Bassong--Bale
Lennon---Palacios-----Hudd---Modric
------------VDV-------------
---------Crouch------------
subs
Pletikosa
Corluka
Kranjcar
Ekotto
Gio
Keane
Pav
Rather than playing 4 out & out defenders I'd have Bale at left back so it allows another attack minded player as we often have trouble breaking teams down & i'd imagine Wolves will only play 1 up front & rely on set pieces to get a goal.
Any news on when Gomes will be back?

Fvcking works ad blocking has nobbled my ability to log in during the day! Gits!
As for Saturday, I have had a momentary slip of sanity and actually predicted we'll win against Wolves for once. Van Der Vaart to get his first goal!!
Could do with that fella in OP!

Fully expect Harry to make changes, after he recognised he should of done for the Wigan game. Not much point in trying to guess line up etc...
Really hope VDV is fit, and maybe even perhaps Modric.
We have had a shaky enought start to the season, cant afford not to win this already...no ifs, no buts - 3 points please.
I'll go 2-0.

When the fixtures were announced,it really did look like that we could get off to another flyer this year.I cannot use injuries as an excuse for not beating Wigan at home and WBA away.Nothing less than three points is required and a scrappy 1-0 win will do me fine.
If our front line is weakened by injuries then the midfield have to chip in with goals too.I'll say 3-0 to Spurs and VDV,Bale and Crouch to score.

---------------Cudicini
Kaboul--King*/Bassong--Gallas--Bale
Bentley--Jenas--Modric*/Palacios--Niko
----------------VDV*/Keane
------------------Crouch
subs: GK, Corluka, Huddlestone, Palacios/Gio, Pav, Lennon, Keane
*If fit
There's my team.
Corluka and Lennon need dropped so I went for Kaboul at RB (always put in a good shift for us there) and Bentley on the wing. Almost went for Hutton as I feel he suits Bentley but Kaboul deserves to be in the team on recent performances.
Huddlestone needs a break, he looked shattered in the last 10mins vs Werder Bremen.
King should be able to play as he'll have a full week to recover after but if not then we have Bassong to play along side Gallas.
Bale is fit as **** (not in that way) but how long can his engine last? I originally had him on the bench but he'll get a bench job mid week so he should be ok! Hopefully we can take him off after 60mins if things are going to plan!
Hopefully VDV will be fit, if not then I'd bench Crouch and play Keane and Pav up top.
Has anybody else noticed its getting really hard to pick our bench with so much quality, and this without having Dawson, Woodgate, Defoe and Gomes to choose from!
Anything but a win here is a poor result. COYS

I actually think Harry will have them really up for this, whoever plays. We know what the likes of Wolves are going to come and do....lets get out of the blocks really quick (unlike Wigan) and get an early goal, first 25 mins or so....then they will have to come out more and will pick them off. If we havn't scored by halftime I will be fearing the worst.
2-0 for me...Bale to have a stormer....

Bad news from Harry.
Luka really struggling, VDV doubtful for Wolves as he doesn't want to risk him. Sandro played excellently in friendly and will be involved against Arsenal. Expects 'the big lad' to adapt to the english game well
Looks like it will be Bale vs Wolves than.:001_rolleyes: Keane and JJ for me, Keane will want the ball and link midfield to attack....hopefully.
Niko doesn't look fit for me to start, Lennon should be dropped along with Corluka.

Van de Vaart, Defoe, Dawson and Modric out.
This is wolves we are playing not Man Utd. We still got some quality midfielders such as Kranjcar, Huddlestone and Palacios so no excuses. If we don't win this match then we are struggling big time. Esepcially after f*cking up the past few games after taking the lead.

17th September 2010, 03:06 PM
Niko is still not totally fit, Palacios has been poor, Lennon has been poor. We are going to need Jenas to step up and play well, and somebody on this team needs to show that they like to score. Probably going to need Keane to link up play and maybe Pav to partner him. And let's hope that Kaboul plays over Corluka.

Reading the posts so far, there doesn't seem to be great confidence in this game, I'd take 1-0 right now to be honest.
Anyone else think our lack of changes to a really stale strikeforce in the summer is biting our bums big time now, particularly with Defoe out for so long ?
Can anyone really see Pav, Crouch or Keane turning into the much needed 20 PL goals striker ?

Not sure how we will lineup, maybe a dimond shape with Bale and JJ going down the wings.
Harry is not a fool, drops the out of form players in Lennon, Palacios and Corluka. Good to see King play with Gallas, also be interesting to see Keane and VDV linking up.

Antilokhos
18th September 2010, 02:55 PM
I think we will see Lennon on at some point, Bale seems to be stretching them out on the left, that would hopefully create some room for Lennon to be dangerous. Not buying a striker keeps coming back to bite us in the ass as neither of ours look too terribly dangerous. All in all another very poor performance. It's just ridiculous and the manager needs to get the players heads straight. For whatever reason we have not been ready to play this season, and that comes down to Harry. He's supposed to be such a brilliant man manager, it's time he shows it.

As MJB says different team same shit. I don't think bringing on a prime Maradona would help us, we seem to play shitter football with better players (apart from Berbatov).
Its getting boring now, we don't look like scoring from corners, we don't look like scoring from set pieces, we don't look like scoring in open play, we don't pass and yet we keep lumping it forward.
We don't keep the game flowing at all, Keane is better than this and quite frankly so is everyone.
I'm just wasting my saturdays watching the same old shite. We concede another goal just before half time, lack of concentration = bottling.
Gino Ginelli
18th September 2010, 03:05 PM
The thing is we've been really good to watch this half, some really nice passing and movement, creating chances, unflustered in possession. It's actually easing my hangover.
But the same problem we've had for yonks keeps rearing it's head, we show no ruthlessness and incisiveness in front of goal, fluffed chances and bad decisions when we should have buried them. We should be 2 or 3 up. Then as it wears on we get more and more comfortable in possession, get complacent, take the tempo down instead of turning it up when you put a team on the back foot. Eventually the focus slips and we get the opposition taking advantage of a slip of concentration and they punish us.
It's shite, and I'm now feeling the need for an alkaseltzer again.

Exactly, Crouch wants to play football he doesn't want to keep heading the ball. We played much better once we started playing football and upped the tempo.
Hutton did that, he ran at players and commited them. He has this in his locker, he was quality when he first joined and Harry never closes the door on players.

Hutton just showed what we were missing down on the right side.... I think that Corluka´s involvement as a RB since his drop of form limited us only to left side... probably lennons form was also affected by Corlukas pace and forward NON-contribution.... Despite Corluka is my fellow Croat, I dont see him in the team for a while, especially if hutton and Kaboul will be injury free....

Hutton was fantastic, he played with great urgency, won tackles and took the game by the scruff of the neck. Well done to him, he didn't sulk and made sure he was gonna take his opportunity when presented.
Kaboul looked great also first half, but with Kaboul playing CB we can start using Hutton more now.
That last 7 minutes made up for a shite game, we need to start picking up more points now and keep going.

Hutton played very well, he played for his future. Rumours are that he wants to leave Spurs, but needs to prove to other teams that he is worth the money we want. Kaboul played very well too, until he had to go off injured. A game that seemed lost but what a turnaround?. Fantastic to see a fightback like that and go on to win 3-1. COYS.

What an odd, odd game. We played horribly for most of it but were still able to get a result despite our best efforts. On the plus side, we know we are probably the deepest team in the world at RB. Corluka, Hutton, and Kaboul are all good, and that doesn't even bring in Naughton and Walker. Kaboul looked very in the first half and Hutton looked even better in the second. I liked Kaboul the first time we had him, and I think his future with Spurs is going to be in the middle. Corluka is going through some bad form, but I fully expect him to bounce back. Even if Hutton leaves, we should have plenty of cover for the forseeable future.
We also now have a guy to take penalties. Van der Vaart stepped up with confidence and took a perfect penalty. Defoe and every other player should be banned if VDV is on the pitch. Think of how may points we dropped last year due to poor penalties. That should now be a thing of the past.
We learned, once again, that we play our best when we play football. Our best players are VDV, Modric, Lennon, Bale, and Huddlestone. It's absolutely ludicrous how often we try to bypass those guys to knock the ball straight to Crouch. It seems that the English players (Dawson and King in particular) are especially guilty of this. Redknapp MUST start emphasizing not to do this. If it's so damn obvious to us, and we are a bunch of football morons, why don't the professionals see it? Our best players will make plays, IF we give them the chance to do so. Lumping the ball up to Crouch (who would benefit greatly from the change) skips over our best players and is simply dumb.
I wouldn't say we really deserved the win, but I will sure as hell take it.

first home game ends in a win. not the type of win we would have liked to see, but its 3 points at the end of the day.
i disagree with antilokhos that ledley lumps the bll to crouch, i agree that daws does. but the only time that ledley will try hit a long ball is if he has to clear his lines or if he has no other simple pass. his passing array is very meticulous and measured, which is why he played defensive midfield for england more than he did at CB.
onwards and upwards now, next up the filth.

I thought everyone lumped it today, BAE, Kaboul, VDV, King, Hudd but everytime we tried to play we looked so much better.
Sometimes the defenders will need to clear their lines, Dawson does lump the ball but not as much as people think. The amount of times players get themselves in trouble and play it back to Dawson which the only option he has is to hoof the ball. Dawson is very good on his feet and good distribution imo, I think he is vert underrated as a defender and footballer.
Are we home or away against West Ham? Is it me or does anyone get the feeling they are due a win?

I think you're all being a bit harsh about the performance really - Wolves only had one chance that I can remember, and as far as I could tell, it was all because Kaboul was injured - he couldn't push up so the winger was offside, and couldn't get in front of Fletcher. We on the other hand had loads of chances - Keane's header, two headers from Crouch, Hutton's left footer past the far post, VDV likewise, then past the same post with his right foot, and Keane had the overhead kick past that post aswell. And Tommy had a couple of shots blocked, we dominated most of it, and we hoofed it less than usual, and got our rewards.

We just lacked that urgency and tempo during the game, we would just calmly roll the ball about in defence and then hoof it up field. Or we would get in a good position and then lump it in the box. Why not pass to feet and get everyone moving off and creating space?
We didn't get out of second gear until Lennon came on, once we scored Wolves dominated for a period and then the game just opened up.

We didn't look good for most of that game. Wolves looked the more likely side to score after we equalized and we only ever looked dangerous on the break. This team has the talent to dictate the tempo and control the play with short, fast passes. It's an ability that Spurs need to develop to succeed like we all want the team to.

First half we were excellent but were missing that donkey's arse with a fvcking double bass never mind a banjo, and then we got lazy and let them in. Seen it a million times. Second half we played like the away team, Wolves looked very comfortable and it took a penalty, a penalty box scramble and a fluke to win it.
We need to learn that when we are able to take teams apart like we have done these last few games, we need to increase the tempo and put the screws to an opposition when were putting them under pressure, not settle into a comfortable pattern which allows them to adjust to us and then sees us get sloppy like that.
And there is nothing complicated or anything about simply making sure you score your chances.

we were crap, compared to how we played the first half V Bremen, we were crap V Wolves for the whole match and yet against worse and weaker opposition.
But we got the three points and theres a saying that if you play badly and still win whoppee, unfortunately other matches Wigan/WBA we played badly and didnt win so we need to work on those success ratios .
For those who actually watched the match as it happened we know we didnt play anywhere near what we should do, and yes its easy saying after the event it wasnt that bad, at the time at 75 minutes, it was freaking dire , sad , pathetic, woeful , utter shit and nobody looked like they gave a f*ck about it .
I'll take the three points thankyou, but the overall performance was complete shit and unnacceptable
Different if we'd have played well against and beaten Wigan and WBA , this could be called an off day, but realistically we know its more than an off day.

I think we played well in patches. It was nowhere near vintage by any means but I think your exagerating MJB. It wasn't complete shit, we actually created quite a few very decent chances and Keane had two glorious chances to put us infront. Had those gone in we may have settled better and gone on to really impose ourselves.
What was missing was somebody who was going to grab the game by the scruff...Hutton did exactly that.
I dread the bottam half teams coming to the Lane now, looking forward to the Pikey's away next week. They will come at us which will totally suit us.

I'm only going by MOTD highlights but thought we looked like we created a shed load of chances but weren't getting the rub of the green at the final moment of an attack .
Lots of plus points from this game :
Van der Vart looks like he's settled right in which is a sign of a class player .
Hutton looked like the player we payed all that money for.
Bale is consistently brilliant.
Lennon looked alot more dangerous than he's looked recently.
Harry made some decent subs Altough the most. Influential one was forced on him.
Negatives:
Strikers couldn't finish chances earlier to make it an easier ride.

Olly, its opinion and of course subjective but Im sticking with how I felt watching the game at the time. Pissed off that we werent winning, and that we were struggling to play football against a team like Wolves.
Yet again gloriously consistent inconsistency at Spurs .
Yes we had chances and of course taking an early one would have releived some pressure but we had that V WBA and still threw points away due to under performing , at the time we were doing it again, so the performance, for me, still reeks of shite knowing how good we can be, the result was good in the end

Just an FYI, Kaboul was probably our best player in the first half, defended very well and got forward pretty well. Hutton came in and did well.
Also, most people were wondering why it took Harry as long as it did to bring on Lennon. Bale's pace was causing problems down the left, and Hutton was doing the same on the right, it became pretty clear in the 2nd half that more pace would greatly trouble Wolves, waiting so late isn't exactly a choice I'd be giving credit for.

Also as I said in my post I was going on match of the day highlights , so ur probably right in your description of the game is accurate.
Lastly I didn't suggest kaboul played poorly at all thats why i said it was forced on harry as i thought kaboul got injured , and that the player who came on for him had major impact.
