View Full Version : Modric makes or breaks our push!

In my opinion he is our best attacking player and one who makes spurs tick..
Although Bale is a revelation, he alone cannot make us win games without our midfielder picking him out and creating space. Its no coincidence that we have struggled without him against wigan.

Modric showed in the first half how important he is and will likely become a world class asset. Im just worried that if he is out for a prolonged period we will struggle now we have to play 4-5-1 with injuries and palacios will have to play constantly.

Hopefully rumours on croatian news-sites that its only a knock are true as we need him to have any hope of winning some champions league games.

The only hope if it is a leg break is that harry decides to drop palacios and use sandro for his ball retention and passing.

Last year's injury was not discovered for some time and was considered a bit of a freak. When one breaks a bone I thought it was supposed to mend stronger than before. Just because he got kicked in the same place does not mean it is broken. I think there is good reason to be optimistic but if it is a break, I can see Modric suffering numerous injuries as surely he will get kicked on the foot in the same place many times in the future.

I agree to a certain extent, but some key points also.

Gomes was missed.

BAE should play LB with Bale LW.

We miss Dawson.

Lennon is out of form.

Palacios needs to be dropped.

Hudd needs someone else other than Palacios.

Charlie is gash.

Gallas needs minutes.

Niko is not fit for some strange reason.

We have no strikers.

With Defoe injured, Darren Bent would be perfect.

JJ needs to play.

We had no pace in the midfield or strikers yesterday, only Lennon and a deep Bale gave us pace.

Palacios adds nothing, JJ would be a goal threat and can link up play further up the field.

PLEASE COME BACK MODRIC, DAWSON AND DEFOE.:bike:

Kaboul more than covered dawsons position.
i know we missed players against westbrom but try looking back to the wigan game for creativity (lack of) and how good modric was against man city when he was fit for 90 minutes. spurs just look a different side.

There will be a way to play better without him too but we'll just have to see if harry can deliver the good with out injury crisis.

But did Gallas? Communication still was lacking imo, especially second half we were all over the place defensively.

JJ needs to play.

 Seriously we have better than him even if it means raiding the youth team! If things are bad enough to call up Jenas then we need to start looking at the bottom of the table rather than the top!

Any recommendations? He done well against Stoke, deserves to play unless Modric is fit and can slot back into cm with Tom. I would much rather JJ than Palacios. Sandro is not ready (too defensive?) and no one else is good enough.

JJ is next best option.

If he is the best option then we are in trouble - simple as!

Palacios is a defensive midfielder Jenas is not (when has he ever made a tackle!) so one can only replace the other if you are changing the shape of the team. If Palacios doesnt play he needs to replaced by someone who will play a similar role so it has to be Sandro or possibly Kaboul or even King in that role.

While Modric is injured Id say keep Palacios & Hudd as defensive midfielders & play Bale, VDV & either Lennon or Bentley as the 3 attacking midfielders (or 2 wide players & 1 mid) behind one striker as we dont have Defoe.

If playing 442 then keep Hudd as the defensive midfielder, VDV as the attacking midfielder with 2 wide players & 2 strikers. I'd pick Kranjcar and even Keane or Dos Santos to play a midfield role in front of Jenas

Jenas may not be the best tackler, but he can sit back, stay in position and close down passing lanes that way. He's a hell of a hard worker. Then he can surge forward when VDV moves forward or out to the side and make a late run into the box and be a threat that way. Just because Jenas doesn't do any one thing exceptionally well doesn't mean he's not solid in many other areas and he is one of the best players we have at communicating and maintaining his defensive positioning, something that would have been quite helpful yesterday.

Good news - Modric seems ok so Jenas can stay on the bench - which in my opinion is far too close to the first team!

Wish the same could be said for Palacios, who can't pass or tackle.

Bit like Jenas then!

The difference is that JJ has one of the best work rates in the premiership, unfortunately, not consistent enough, whilst Palacios creates un-necessary fouls, loses possession and does not even do half the work rate that JJ seems to do.

Wow you make Jenas sound superb! I have to admit that every time i've seen him play he has never lived up to your description. He seems to be consistently poor - thankfully Redknapp only sees him as a sub or emergency player at best too

Haha Jenas only has himself to blame for having 1 in 10 good games.
Well we still need to get Bale back to left wing too though and palacios dropped.

Harry would have dropped palacios by now , if Jamie O'hara was fit methinks.

Just very happy at modric being fit.

Jenas is very consistent. What gets people angry is that he is consistently good but then will have a great performance. So people want him to be consistently great. Which yeah, would be fantastic, but doesn't seem too likely at this point. But Jenas is consistently a hard worker, consistently positions himself well, consistently gets forward, consistently tracks back. He's not consistently Lampard, but he's still a good player.

But he can, he hardly ever gives the ball away and its a proven myth he has bad distribution. Jenas defensive play is good, done well against Stoke and made two important blocks with two superb defence splitting passes.

He isn't consistent enough, but him being decent consistently is good for the moment. Palacios is consistently awful, JJ is head and shoulders above Palacios at the moment.

Lets give JJ a chance, or at least someone else.

No matter what is said about JJ, you seem to hate the guy so much that nothing positive will change your opinion. It is a fact that he is a good player, unfortunately, his great form is not as consistent for us all to realise how good he could be.

I must hate him as much as you love him! As it happens if he has a good game i'll praise him for it. I can't remember the last time that happened though! For the record I did not go to the Stoke game so can't comment on how amazing he played so i'll have to take your word for it. My main issue is that i dont think he's of a good enough standard for us - i hope i'm proved wrong & he gets player of the year as competition for places is a good thing but even you know that ain't going to happen!

Ha ha consistently sh|t

but...lets not start the whole Jenas debate again...i thought this had been securely locked in the cupboard now we had some real quality to look at
