Terrible result in a game where noone really broke a sweat, but the performance wasnt really that bad.
Once again, Kyle Walker was outstanding for me. Naughton struggled, Corluka once again proved he cant play at CB, JJ went off early (hurrah!,) Gio showed why we'd be idiots to let him go, Bale continued his run as best player in a Spurs shirt, David Buttons shift showed he cant cut it at top level, Bassong was very solid as was BAE.
Half full stadium, no atmosphere, full of idiots. Dont boo during a friendly you prick! And the song is 'Stand up if you hate Arsenal,' not 'How much do you hate Arsenal.' And the stand you are in is the Park Lane, not the Park Side *

hi mate
I was bit pissed off as we are surely ahead of Villareal in preparation as they start a few weeks after us , or is Spanish football just on such a high that nobody can stop them (Under 19s included) .
Hope we perform better V Benfica on Tuesday just from a 'be nice to see it' point of view
I know pre season is only about fitness and sharpness so its no big deal and 14th Aug , 17/18 th and 24/25th are the vital matches

Two things I was disappointed with was the defending and the movement when in possession. No one in midfield linking up play and creating triangles, everything being played in straight lines. Also the space between defence, midfield and strikers were appalling.
Walker was great, he looks a play and should be given a chance next season. I think its unfair to slate Naughton imo, square pegs in round holes again and the lad is clearly a right back being asked to play left back. His attitude was great, he tried things and looked confident. IMO he put in a shift and tried his best, thats all I ask for.
I pricing of the match was bad, £5 would have been better. It didn't seem like a great atmosphere either, just singing stand up if you hate arsenal. Also why boo a friendly performance?
I remember thrashing Roma before the season started once, it doesn't mean a thing does it?

Good point, they just know how to pass the ball don't they. Movement makes them look like they have an extra man and we kept getting boxed in. Which we ended up hoofing it most times.

Its a shame, cos we have a great record of beating top European team in pre-season at home... Roma, Inter, Olimpiakos etc - but they are normally Saturday games... I reckon Fiorentina next week will be a different vibe *fingers crossed*
Villarreal played some beautiful football, and I found myself applauding them as much as I did us!

didnt manage to see this one but saw the goals on SSN.
defending for the goals were very poor, especially the third where he brushed off hudd who didnt put enought meat into it.
think that gio took his goal very well and that he should stay. we will need him this season, especially if we get into the group rounds of the CL.
im hoping that they can produce a better performance next time they come out. jj will be out for a few weeks and corluka showed again that he cant play cb and is a better rb. the exact opposite of walker who impressed nearly everyone. think naughton should be given a go on the right, even if that means playing him in midfield.

You're right. The season before last (i think!) we didnt lose a preseason game, thrashed Roma then got 2 points from 8 games while last season we had an embarrasing defeat to Celtic in preseason but finished 4th! Maybe defeats in these games are a blessing in disguise. Another factor could have been that the players from the world cup had only been back a few days so it will take a little time to get match fit. I really dont care about these preseason games just as long as we are ready when the season starts

It's just about getting fitness.
SSN made me laugh, they are such a fully fledged bottom of the barrel gutter tabloid at this stage. 'Tottenham's champions league preparations take a major hit', lol.

Yeah, anyone could tell Roma weren't giving a shit, just fouling left, right and centre, and unfit. VR are on form, players far ahead of ours, who have only just come back into training. Thank **** we don't face the prospect of playing these bastards, guaranteed top 4 in LL if ever I saw it.
Good points: Rose, Walker, GDS.

Watched the second half of the game on the night. I thought we played some really nice stuff up to and just after the goal. Kranjcar looked really silky, Walker looks really dangerous going forward, and was delighted to see Gio doing well and scoring. I couldn't quite tell if he was playing just off the striker in a free role of sorts, he certainly seemed to be roaming the final third a bit.
To be fair we started conceding goals when the team looked fairly weakened. Charlie at CB, as we know, is a bit of a disaster, and the midfield got increasingly shoddy as Niko and Hudd started going off to be replaced with Parrett and Taraabt. Benni looked short of match practice and fitness as he'd only just come back, Seb too. Thought Crouchy did alright too considering the same circumstances for him.
Not worried about this result, it's all about match practice really.
