'
Tottenham are set to be seeded in their Champions League qualifying round which means they will avoid most of Europe's top teams.
The success of English clubs in Europe's premier competition over the past five years has helped Spurs own status. They are likely to miss being paired with Werder Bremen, Sevilla, Ajax, Lyon and Zenit St Petersburg, all of whom look set to secure a qualifying round spot.
While Spurs could meet the team that finishes fourth in Italy - at the moment Sampdoria - their place among the seeded teams will be good news for Harry Redknapp as he plans the club's first assault on the Champions League.
Chelsea, Manchester United and Arsenal will again be among the top eight seeds for the group stage draw next season along with Barcelona, Bayern Munich, Real Madrid, AC Milan and Inter Milan.
This means that should Spurs win their qualifying tie they will be paired with one of the five European heavyweights.'

That would be a huge boost for us.
I know that seedings and qulaification spots etc are base on co-efficients but is that really all logistical bollocks designed to hide the fact that it's really based on who's the most marketable for UEFA? Or am I too cynical?

As I understood it UEFa want some smaller countries teams through to the CL itself.
And so we would play off V German,Spain,Italy,Greece, France, Holland,Portugal teams (obviously not their champions) , bascially those 8 countries would have a qualiifier against one of the other 7 countries, whislt the smaller countries teams that have survived from earlier rounds will play off V each other so that 4 bigger countries and 4 smaller ones teams go through to the CL
eg thats how that Romainian team tha beat Barca got thru (cant remember their name Kazan? )

Yeah they were Russian, Rubin Kazan.
And I'm still confused despite several lengthy explanations (thank you to everyone who has tried to help me so far.)
Now, if we do get seeded as this suggests, does this mean that we will not play the likes of Sevilla, Porto and Lyons in our play-off to get to the group stage?

It's impossible to be too cynical about our footballing authorities. Admittedly, I think FIFA and the Premier League are worse than UEFA, but that's not really saying much - Blatter and Scudamore are such tossers.

That's great if its the case, and it seems to be. I've seen it in a few places now. Increases our chances or more pertinently decreased the chance of it going pear shaped. We'd be strong favourites if we avoid Lyon, Sevilla, Bremen etc.
I hope we get Hadjuk Split or Sparta Prague or Bohemians or someone like that.

It's good news as long as it doesn't make us complacent - we could still lose to shit (as proved last weekend)
The players have got to be pumped!
It'll help the Croats or Pav not playing in the world cup - they'll be raring to go come late July!

Russian then thanks, the fact is they still got through the qualifying rounds to get into the CL proper as Russia dont step automatically in I believe.
this is from Wiki, really confuses the issue lol
"As of 2009, the UEFA Champions League commences with a round-robin group stage of 32 teams, which is preceded by two qualification 'streams' for teams that do not receive direct entry to the tournament proper. The two streams are divided between teams qualified by virtue of being league champions, and those qualified by virtue of finishing 2nd-4th in their national championship.
The number of teams that each association enters into the UEFA Champions League is based upon the UEFA coefficients of the member associations. These coefficients are generated by the results of clubs representing each association during the previous five Champions League and UEFA Cup seasons. The higher an association's coefficient, the more teams represent the association in the Champions League, and the fewer qualification rounds the association's teams must compete in.
5 of the remaining ten qualifying places are granted to the winners of a four round qualifying tournament between the remaining 39 or 38 national champions, within which those champions from associations with higher coefficients receive byes to later rounds. The other 5 are granted to the winners of a two round qualifying tournament between the 15 clubs from the associations ranked 1-15, which have qualified based upon finishing 2nd-4th in their national league.

Clear as mud then, lol
yeh, tho to be fair, if we did fill in the form with the relevant countries/teams, it does make it easier once we know them.
we will still have to play either the runners up of co efficient rating countries 7-15 or the 3rd place teams of countries 4-6 or the 4th place teams of Italy or Spain, so if seeded in that draw we will play the winners of the Q2 round featuring the runners up of countries 7-15 and the third place team of country 6 .
Got it.?
of course the full co efficient ratings arent known yet until the finals are played.
But Intertoto has been stopped yippee
