Dawson: Yes. I said not a few months ago, thinking he was too basic, but he's really raised his game and looked better than Terry, giving real leadership.

King: Yes. Again, previously not for me, due to injuries, but he just looks world-class. 2 games in 5 days, and in the last one he looked peerless. You can't deny that level of quality.

Hudd: No. A bit too soon. Next year he may prove he is amongst the very best of midfielders. The shooting can be too wayward, the passing can get too ambitious, and he can still be too easily out-manouevred in midfield.

Lennon: Yes. He's introduced some astute crossing into his game, meaning there is end product. His goal threat has also grown, with his left foot becoming a threat.

Defoe: Yes. Tailed off towards the end of the season, but he can produce a goal from nothing on his own.

Crouch: Yes. Clearly a cut above Hesky and Cole. A goalscorer who defies expectations because his stature convinces onlookers that he is all route one. He has intelligence, determination, touch and persistence. He lacks power but relies on placement and control.

Bentley: No, he's been solid but still under-achieved.

Bale: No, he's Welsh!

I agree with all of yours.

Dawson makes an excellent back up CB to be taking with you, he has shown tremendous heart and would be an asset.

King is a yes, he's somebody who can step in and be world class. If Terry or Ferdinand (I assume their starting spots are guaranteed) get suspended for a game or have a minor injury then King can step in with no drop off.

Huddlestone is a no for me. I still don't like him as much as a lot of the others here seem to. I'd like to see him do more to break up play and learn that a shorter pass can be just as good as a long one.

Lennon is tough due to his injury situation. He was probably the best winger in the Premiership prior to getting hurt. He seems to be over and he should be back in game shape by the time the tournament starts. But he will really have to apply himself in training to show he is fit and the layoff didn't knock him back.

Defoe is pretty close to being a no. He started off so hot that it would have been stupid to not take him. While his form has dropped recently, to me it's more that I am not sure where he would play with England. He could be useful if something happens to Rooney, but I've seen nothing to convince me that their partnership could work which doesn't leave a lot of options.

Crouch is a yes, if he is used like Harry used him towards the end, as an impact player you can bring on to shake things up. I do think he can be effective with Rooney as long as the midfielders don't try too many long balls. But his size adds a change of pace that could be crucial in a tight match.

Bentley has been good, I'm just not sure where he'd go. Assuming Lennon is fit he will start, then you're likely to see Walcott brought along since he can also play up top. I could see Bentley being brought if they count Walcott as a forward. Bentley's crossing should be able to open up a bunch of headers for Crouch and Rooney. He'd be a useful tool to have to really switch things up. So he could make it as a tactical sub.

Obviously King, Dawson and Lennon.

Crouchie should be going, his record for England is great. So yes.

Defoe is concerning me a bit to be honest, but yes if England are desperate for a goal with 10 mins to go and you need someone to shoot on sight - he's your man. So yep.

I would be taking Huddlestone. Far better season that Carrick and Barry. Churlish not to take a player on such good form who has showed good consistency over the whole season. England dont really have these sort of players in abundance. He would be suited to the International scene IMO. Dont like the way United fans call him 'Hundredstone' lol.

Bentley - no. Hasn't quite hit those heights and would it mean somebody better being left behind? Yes.

Was Jenas on the list? lol er thats a no.

i agree with all of yours apart from hudd.

personally i would take hudd as he can pick the difficult ball. there is a flaw as you say that he is over ambitious. but i think against the better teams you will need to force and try to penetrate and get in behind their defences.

think the key to unlocking this is by playing some cute passes through and over the defence.

think he would play a big role if england are to score against the better teams. he can like carrick play like the "quarter-back". but this doesnt suit him and might struggle to fit in with lampard and gerrard being ever presents.

hudd and bale need to improve their decision making alot more. more often than not, they opt for the "glory" option and this sometimes backfires but it can also become the ball that will win you a world cup.

I knew I'd left someone out, but he's not been playing and isn't on the radar.

I know choda would have voted for him, but surely no one else? :santaclaus:

A healthy Jenas is a fantastic addition to the squad. I really hope we keep him. Had he played the full season I feel he would have warranted discussion in this thread.

You must be thinking of someone else. I hate Jenas, always have, couldn't understand how he ever stayed in the spurs team not to mind get in the England squad.

I think:

Daws, King, Hudd, Defoe, Crouch and Lennon should all go. But I think King, Hudd and Lennon should be the only first choice starters. Harsh on Bent because there is little between him and Defoe but Defoe has a bit more about him and can smack a goal from nothing. Having said that I know who I'd want one on one or to take a penalty! But Defoe, just.

Crouch is always a great impact sub and something totally different that can change the course of a match, so I'd bring him for that.

Jenas not good enough, i nearly swore but that would have been very naughty of me

btw im hanging out my a$$ right now

Hudd should go - not that he's international class yet imo

but

He's as good as Carrick and Barry who is injured anyway and don't see many other options.

Think World cup might be good for him and might suit his style of play

lmao!!!! I can't think of anything Jenas could bring to the Spurs or England teams! Except possibly a great ability to fall on his arse when he loses the ball!

Jenas is way down the pecking order and him being out of central midfield has a large reason to do with our success. Yes he has his moments but suffers from a disease called inconsistency and thats being kind.

I see him being sold, unless he is happy as fourth choice in the centre.

4th choice?! Dont forget we have Sandro coming in & bear in mind Modric & Krancjar can also play in the centre it'd mean he be more like 7th or 8th choice!

Triffic post, to which I agree especially about Hudd.

That doesn't make any sense. It's called attributing one thing to another even though they aren't even close to being directly related.

I'd take 'em all excpet Bentley, who hasn't anywhere near earned it.
