Talk about the NLD in here!

Anyone else bricking it ahead of this one? Palacios is suspended right? Unless Hudd, Corluka and Defoe are back to their usual sharpness I forsee a disaster.

Well this is it...our season hinges on this as well all know that a defeat will pretty much see us off.

If we cant beat a weakened Arsenal we wont be beating a pretty formidable Chelsea side.

Gomes

Corluka/Walker
Dawson
King
Ekotto

Bentley
Huddlestone
Modric
Bale

Pav
Defoe/Gudjohnsen

If Hudd doesn't make it put EG in the middle. Going for an epic 3-2 win and I see Pav getting a brace here.

Cant see Niko making it at all.

Reports suggest that it's very doubtful that King will make it. I've gone for my formation because I fear for our lack of strength in the centre. A CM pair of Hudd and Kaboul lacks pizazz, but Modric is simply unable to compete in the middle. Playing Kaboul as a deep holding midfielder protecting the back four, with Hudd and Modric ahead of him allows for strength and creativity, with Bentley and Niko providing the width and breaks into the box.

Pav as a lone forward, supported by Modric and Niko, may sound like a reduction in fire power, but the big man is able to hold up the play and create something for himself if need be, as well as link up with the aforementioned. Defoe alongside would obviously seem natural but then I fear for the sacfrificing of the midfield strength and JD up top alone in this formation would result in his disappearance from the game.

Kranjcar seems even more doubtful than King...he picked up a bad shin inury on Sunday and left Wembley in a protective boot...

Oh really? I hadn't realised he was potentially ruled out. PhysioRoom doesn't even list him as injured.

I would like to say Benni at LB and push Bale forward, but Bale is just so goddamn good at LB. Maybe EG alongside Hudd and put Modric back out left?

Lets bounce back with style.

---------------Gomes
Corluka--King--Dawson/Bassong--Ekotto
Bentley--Huddlestone--Modric--Bale
-------------Gudjohnsen
-----------------Pav

subs: Alnwick, Walker, Dawson/Bassong, Rose, Crouch, Defoe, Livermore

Think EG should start this one so he can drop deep and help out with the midfield. Huddlestone looked knackered after 60mins at Wembley so he'll need all the help he can get. Pav simply because I love him and he suits the lone striker role better than Defoe.

If it was up to me, Crouch wouldn't even be on the bench.

Wiley is a **** for booking Palacios.

King will play by all reports. I don't think Hudd will be fit enough to last the game. He didn't on Sunday and this too soon for any difference. One time I'd approve of King playing in midfield. Dawson and Bassong are strong enough at the back.

Gino Ginelli

I really don't have any confidence in King's knee lasting in midfield, I just don't.

olly27

We really need Hudd for this game, given that Willie is missing we need some presence in midfield and retaining possession will be vital against the Scum.

Anyway team news on the OS doesn't mention Hudd so maybe thats encouraging?http://www.tottenhamhotspur.com/news/articles/team-news-130410.html

Worried about this one, it really is a must-win.

If we can pull it off, I'm sure it'll go some way to repairing the damage caused on Sunday - beat them and we've ended their title chances for defo. We also need the 3 points to stay in touch with City.

I don't want to get my hopes up after the way Sunday made me feel, but prior to the semi I fully believed we could get something out of this game.

To be honest if Bale's superb work gets finished off we should get something out of the game. Start Pav also. Oh and I hope someone destroys van ***** if he plays. another nice little layoff for him would be lovely, shame he's coming back on Wednesday.

All said and done, I think it will be honours shared, score draw.

To be honest if we were to lose badly tomorrow night on the back of getting knocked out of the FA CUP SEMI FINAL to a team who are already relegated would be enough to make me sick.

I just hope this isn't going to be the worse week for Spurs in a very long time.

We need to get rid of that sort of attitude for tomorrow evening...the Lane needs to be rocking, hopefully not a cagey atmosphere....the fans will play a massive part.

The likely appearance of a particular opposition player is certain to guarantee that.

It's confirmed he's likely to be on the bench for it. I'm hoping for another of those spectacular air shots he's so good at, resulting in him doing a full 360 spin in mid air and landing on, and subsequently breaking, his other ankle.

Also, Ledders confirmed as available for selection. Good times!

Do you think it possible that we could get a big sign prompting the crowd to boo on the jumbotrons whenever Campbell gets the ball?

And then pump hissing out over the PA?

I wonder what the actual restrictions on abusing Campbell are? What instructions have all the security been given? Obviously the truly vile stuff, but is "Ledley at the back" still allowed? "Judas, Judas"? I don't bother with any of that stuff, cos I don't feel it as bad as the likes of GS do, but they seem perfectly acceptable.

The problem with those in charge of footballing institutions and clubs is that they only want endless positivity from fans, when as we all know the great thrill in supporting is the abuse you can give out. You can shout "f***" and "b***ard" at the top of your voice, and everyone thinks it's great.

I think any of that stuff pertaining to sexual orientation and STD's was much too far and pretty pathetic tbh. But otherwise you're right, that's part of what the terraces are all about really, giving the other lot hell. You got to be able to take it in this game, players and fans alike.

I remember going to Scvnthorpe games with my dad as a 6 year old and learning about 20 new words in 90 mins that I never heard anywhere else!

If you don't watch this one and we win, then what a waste all those times you did watch and we lost will have been. My attitude is, we have to keep watching, because one day we'll win. The only way we can guarantee that we'll see that win is by watching every time. You gotta take some punishment along the way, but imagine if we beat them, robbing them of the league and setting ourselves up to take 4th. You can't afford to risk missing that Turk :001_smile:

Mate I know how you feel, believe me. But the world works in mysterious ways! I know Spurs have a tendency to build it all up and then slam us in the ass, but I have a sneaky feeling tomorrow night is going to be a cracker.

Put it like this if we lose tomorrow night and its in a pretty pathetic fashion I will seriously start to wonder if anything will ever change at this Club - and the season is over for me and I will take time out until the world cup.

Team selection is always important, but what matters more is that we have belief within the camp and the Lane is totally pumped. This is the biggest NLD in a long time from a proper competitive point of view and if they arn't up for this they will never be up for anything.

Eye of the Tiger kind of Stuff coming out of the dressing room!

These ****s need done for once, and lets see Bentley curling in the winner.

this is season defining for us. im not too bothered about the result. it would be nice, but i think the extra hass deflated us alot.

i think a draw will be on the cards. not many players to choose from, i just hope that ledley is back and can give us some calmness and composure on the ball and influence others around him.

i want to see a performance that is worthy of playing in spurs colours. this is the best way to put one pst the scum.

Gomes
Corluka Dawson King Assou-Ekotto
Bentley Huddlestone Modric Bale
Defoe Gudjohnsen

think we have to keep as much of the ball as possible which is why i have fielded a passing team, and no crouch which means that in theory there should be no long balls being kicked up.

well the ****ing woolwich ****s ****in got happy as if they won the Cl on sunday btw at least we have played at wembley and not just the once. I think the fat bastards need to be put in their right place for once. A win would be terrific as harry says. Well the lane has got to be rocking and i believe this belief should be instilled within the players veins, if not they shouldn't be playing simple. I GENUINLY BELIEVE THAT WE SHOULD WIN but it is all pretence and i hope not a false dawn for what could be. I think we have an excellent team but just are unlucky and hoodo if you know what i mean. Well if we do win im going to go to the Emirates and celebrate in their backyard ****in scum think i'll go by the Finsbury park station oohh maybe arsenal tube station.

Anyone knows if there are any pubns near the stadium showuing the match in 3D or better if ther is alink so i can watch the match online in 3d. Dont say watch it on myp2p or justin tv coz i know that i mean 3d stream online

I think that just about sums up mt attitude but whilst I normally look forward to watching us on the box, today I am dreading what in my heart I feel will be another disappointment. We may play well, we may be the best team, we may be unlucky, we may get bad ref decisions, but I just cannot see us winning. A draw does neither team any good but at least I will not have that horrible feeling like Sunday night and I will not start to get the jitters that the Scum could actually win the League.

Of course he does mate, they never make an early decision on him. Its good news really - means he will probably play. I have never heard Harry say all season that Ledley is a definite starter - this is the protocol regarding Ledley.

Song is definitely out for them - now that is good news and very significant IMO. I would imagine that Denilson would start for them in the centre now, a player who the Hudd could certainly get the better of.

olly27

I sincerely hope our team is as follows, injuries permitting,:

Gomes

Charlie
Daws
King
Ekotto

Bentley
Hudd
Modric
Bale

Pav
Defoe

I think that team is good enough to win tonight and the fact that Song is out for them is massive. It means they are lighter in midfield now, as our we with no Wilson, so it evens it up a bit in the centre of the park.

Personally I think Bentley and Modric need to step up tonight - they need to play really well for us to get a positive result. They are my two key men for tonight. Would love to see Bentley be a bit more aggressive and really drive at them.

Of course I am assuming Bale keeps up his high standards. Would like to see Bale cut in and hammer a few at dodgy Almunia too.

olly27
14th April 2010, 12:31 PM
Probable Scum starting eleven:

Almunia
Sagna
Clichy
Campbell
Vermaelen
Denilson
Diaby
Nasri
Eboue
Rosicky
Bendtner

With Walcott and Van Rapist on the bench. I could see Wenger bringing on Walcott for the last 20-25 to run at us when we start to tire. Eboue will start ahead of Sagna, with one eye on containing Bale.

I am not that concerned by that team, unless Diaby does what he does every bluemoon and play a flipping blinder.

I think Dawson will handle Bendtner, and I think Defoe could cause Campbell real problems.

Let's not be getting complacent about this just because they're missing Fabric-ass and Arshavin. Their midfield is still strong, fast and suprisingly technical, plus they play in the usual Wenger style. Modric in the middle, especially with Hudd as opposed to Palacios, equals vast tracks of space and a lack of urgency in closing down that they will exploit. That's why I proposed 1 deep holding midfielder in Kaboul, as he did against portsmouth(?) in the league i think it was, and then Hudd and Modric in front of him creating.

I highly doubt Redknapp will do that of course. I hope he employs the Kaboul DM approach again as opposed to going with Modders in the middle again. We saw against Fulham in the first half how disastrous that can be.

I pretty much say this every year but I really DO have a feeling about this one. Maybe something to do with all the misery surrounding our club at the moment, a win against the odds against our bitterist rivals would be the perfect tonic.

We have the players to cope with that XI but have they the will? Dawson will eat Bentdner for breakfast, and Defoe should run 'ol Sulzeer ragged. Clichy will be breathing a huge sigh of relief at not having to face Lennon again, and will feel freer to get forward. His pace and overlapping will cause problems from Bentley and Corluka the same way Bale is going to give Song nightmares.

We will look almightly one dimensional again due to the fact that Bentley/Corluka are both slugs and have no pace to beat a man.

The only way we will score will be route one, a setpiece or a bit of magic from Defoe/Pav/Bale.

I predict that either Bale or Bentley will score for us, probly from a freekick.

think it is time for modric to show his true quality. he has been pretty poor but played better on sunday. hoping that bentley can provide the same sort of performance as bale does on the other flank.

bale should be having a field day against sagna and eboue. it will boil down to which flanks has the better game. think defensive wise the right side is slightly stronger. only because charlie will be holing back more than ekotto.

The reports that it was just a bit of soreness may have some validity here. I hope it's not desperation. Lennon must be thinking he's on course to miss the WC squad. Hudd and Defoe only looked 60% on Sunday but it would only be on the bench.

Reports also stated that Harry would not rush him back at all and he would only be involved when he was fit enough to be. Could be desperation though but more likely Harry being coy this week in the media...pyschologically it could be a huge lift - in terms of the atmosphere prior to kick off when everybody is suprised to see Lennon on the bench!!!

Happy flipping days.

Dear God...please let us win just for once please. Pretty please with cherries on top.

kaboul as a RB ??? wtf ??? we have walker on that position.... where is gonna Rose to play ??? we have 3 100% left footed player, and only 2 positions for that...

This will get messy...

Subs: Alnwick, Bassong, K Walker, Bentley, Livermore, Crouch, Gudjohnsen.

Kaboul over Walker doesn't make any sense. Height and physique, with Bender, Sol and Vermin likely to be up at deadballs, but no Crouch?

It's a huge risk, cos I don't see Rose getting any change outta Clichy.

we are having major problems with keeping possession of the ball.

we need to string a few passes together and relieve the pressure from our defence.

the problem we are having is that the ball is not sticking to the players up front. it just keeps bouncing off the players.

hudd looks a bit slow after the effects of the wembley pitch. i dont think he is fully fit. however he has played some great forward passes.

need to get some more shots in at almunia.

OK half time and Arsenal have dominated without actually creating that many clear cut chances...Daws and King have been imperious at the back. The problem we have is keeping possession...well actually getting the ball first. We need to get our foot on the ball more or it will only be a matter of time before they start to look really threatening.

Our outlet is Bale...so feed him, he has Sagna in his pocket if we can get the ball to him.

Hudd looks knackered but has done more off the ball work than I ever seen before. Done well for me. Infact we are normally great on the ball and terrible without it...roles reversed tonight.

If we can get into the game with a bit more possession we have a decent chance.

We will need another goal mind you, as you know Walcott and Van Rapist in the second half at some point.

Im ****ing shitting my pants right know... I dont know why, but Im ****ing scared about this 1-0 advantage after 1st half... recent history says that we havent benefit from it... anyway, massive result with poor peerformance... apparently were playing with 9 men, cause Modrić and Kaboul have been non existent... Those two just cant play in the positions where they are playing this game... Both have been booked, so I expect Kaboul not to start 2nd half, and Modrić to be subbed during the game.
If, and I mean IF Harry leaves Kaboul on the pitch ITS GOING TO BE SUICIDAL !!!! Harry, you ****, IT was ****ing obvious that Kaboul is a disaster as RB, dont make a mistake and leave him playing 2nd half !!!!

Arsenal this season have a great record of scoring goals in the last ten minutes of games. But as we all know after we score the first goal in a nld we end up losing.

Should we match Arsenals three in midfield? Olly is right, Hudd does look shattered (playing well) but if we continue to not keep the ball then we will open right up.

Seconded. Credit to Harry. Tactics, replicating those of Chelsea and ManU, were the key. Absorb pressure and hit on the break, or at deadballs. Then narrow the pitch and suck them into the centre. Disappointed we conceded a goal. I was seriously looking for 3 nil.

That is wide of the mark. Zokora was absolutely awful.

Palacios, as on Sunday, can attack as well as defend. He has far more intelligence than Zokora. His passing is much more wide ranging, and better, but can get stuck into a rhythm of continually giving it away. Zokora was always a 5 yard passer, and sprinting off to nowhere on a 50 yard run. Palacios can also shoot on target, or at least threaten it, whereas Zokora continually blazed 20 yards high and wide.

Seconded. Credit to Harry. Tactics, replicating those of Chelsea and ManU, were the key. Absorb pressure and hit on the break, or at deadballs. Then narrow the pitch and suck them into the centre. Disappointed we conceded a goal. I was seriously looking for 3 nil.

Indeed. Arsenal play eye of the needle stuff and Harry had us set up perfectly to absorb and anticipate everything they had going forward. Until RVP came on Gomes was a specator, which is amazing given the possession they had.

I was looking for the third, Pav and particularly EG had great chances to make it 3.

Also thought Bentley was good too when he came on, they all were.

Could we seriosuly replicate that kind of performance against Chelsea? Very difficult but at least its another derby.

Harry should take a lot of credit for tonight, as you say he did his homework and implemented it to a tee.

i cant believe the result. i am in ecstacey. what a result and to end arseholes title hopes. Danny rose what a way to announce yourself reminds me of rooney and dat was against arsenal as well. 4th place surley has to be within our grasp now. we beat the scum 2-1 ohh we beat the scum 2-1. 2-1 we beat the scum 2-1. Dawson for me deserves to go to the world cup as he has been world class today and all season long. They should make dawson the new england captain he has passion, determination and LOYALTY. A glorious night.

I had a drink at a arsenal pub tonight after we won the ****s were staring at me. at least it was only one pint. The match was breathtakiong in glorious 3D. COYS!!!!!! 4 LIFE. I am ****in pissed LMAO

We didn't miss him much. To be honest I see him as a slightly improved Zokora, he never scores and his passing is awful. Better first touch than 'second touch is a tackle' Zokora!

Mate your having a laugh with that seriously. Palacios is a huge factor in our recent success and is an infinitely better player than Zokora.

wilson is better than Zok, but he does give away too many free kicks with challenges he has no chance of winning, and gives the ball away even on simple passes , just we didnt miss him tonight and actually kept possesion etc better without him and they only had one dangerous free kick position all game without Wilson fouling so much

Mate make no mistake, had Palacios been playing tonight with half the appetite as the rest of them we could of battered them with his ball winning abilities. We couldn't get near the ball in the first half. Second half was much improved though in terms of possession and counter attacking.

The last four days have summed up Tottenham Hotspur in a nutshell. The depths of despair on Sunday and the very peak of ecstasy tonight.
Ok criticisms first.LEARN TO SEE A GAME OUT YOU C*NTS WITHOUT CAUSING LONG TERM DAMAGE TO MY HEART AND MY UNDERPANTS.
But other than that,fan-flipping-tastic.World class performance from Gomes, truly superb saves towards the end of the game.It is now about doing it all again against Chelsea on Saturday. But let us milk this feeling that we've missed over the last 11 years.

Tactics were made for Palacios tonight. Tight formation, forcing Arsenal into the centre, picking them off. A zero bookings scenario for him.

What exposes Palacios is extreme attacking, him having to dive in and chase the ball. The early goal was spectacularly good for us. The reverse of Sunday. Don't it feel good? :santaclaus:

We will look almightly one dimensional again due to the fact that Bentley/Corluka are both slugs and have no pace to beat a man.

The only way we will score will be route one, a setpiece or a bit of magic from Defoe/Pav/Bale.

I predict that either Bale or Bentley will score for us, probly from a freekick.

Modric, Hudd, Ledders, Daws, Gudjohnsen, Benni, Bale - all magnificent. Just brilliant. The composure and ball retention of Modders and Eidur was glorious. Did anyone notice Modders barging Diaby off the ball twice in the first half? Magic :001_smile: Daws and Ledley a pair of rocks as usual, Benni back to his best. Hudd holding things together in midfield, getting stuck in with Modders. Bale the duracell bunny, I've never seen anyone who can run like him, he's got such amazing energy and commitment, I F*CKING LOVE HIM!!!

Then there's Heurelho. What a f*cking hero. Every single mocking word that's been said about him has been rammed right back down everyone's throats. What a legend. What does Harry have up his sleeve for Chavski? Surely we couldn't do them as well?

They wern't that great against Bolton the other night and were quite lucky in all honesty.

Can we find the energy again? Who will start? Surely Bentley will having only played 45 tonight. Such a pitty it wasn't only a one game suspension for Willie.

I would play Eidur against Chavski, his intelligence was key in the second half...keeping it simply and kept us possession.

You know all the times I ve bemoaned our performances or attitude, I knew we had this sort of performance within us, but its got to come out more often than every NLD, its just as vital V Wolves as it is V Arsenal , we can do it, its not necessary every game as our position proves, but ideally we should have it there to call on when needed, we've proved it, now please more consistency, earn the right to be a Spurs player, earn our adulation, make history with Spurs.

Ha ha, yeah! Main spread in the Metro sports section is Ledley's eyes popping out of his skull as Rose's missile nigh on broke the back of the net! Pav's jaw is almost on the deck!

Words escape me as to how good that was. They had pretty much all of the ball for the first 45 but our defence, so far beyond what it has been with Ledders in there, was unreal. I echo Turkish and others in their praise of Eidur. His ball retention helped us control the game in the second half and we were far better. RVP threatened to change the game irrevocably but Gomes, like Gandalf the Grey, had one of those "You! Shall! Not! PAAAASSS!!" nights and produced a display that wins world cups, let alone the NLD.

If I'm gonna be picky (and I usually am) I just wish on those occasions when we broke and utterly scythed them up, that we had shown some simple ruthlessness and buried them with a 3rd or 4th. Bentley in particular had an opportunity to simply square the ball for Crouch to tap home but elected to skin his man and try a speculative left foot blaster which was blocked. Silly.

But Danny Rose. Oh my god, Danny Rose you little beauty! I just can't stop watching that replay, it's unreal how perfectly he caught that. It's almost like a Streetfighter move where the ball drops and at the right moment young Danny hits UP, RIGHT, DOWN-RIGHT, TRIANGLE and "Shoryuken!!"; the game pauses, a big logo saying "CONNECTION!" pops up as he hits the ball and BLAM! Almunia has sleepless nights for the next 6 months. Pwned!

that is what made it happened. he knew he had the ability and backed himself. i still think that if it was a more experience played like hudd. he would have chipped it back in. but young player being introduce for the first time are always capable of producing something special because the dont know what its like to play in these type of games. especially against harder oppositions, the decisions taken are more naive than when playing weaker opposition.

that must be the ultimate way to take your first steps into your tottenham career.

think ledley should be given a knighthood.

gomes should be brazils number 1. bale is should be running in the olympics, cos he can run all day long. hudd and daws had the most determination i have ever seen. think hudd took on the role of wilson and did is best at adding willie's bite in midfield. they looked very lightweight and it showed when modric brushed diaby of the ball as if he wasnt there.

makes me proud to support spurs. now we need to revise for chelsea and put another one over them. hopefully manure can hand citeh a heavy blow.
