bloody hell i can't believe it, charlton fans will be well gutted, bit like reidy.

I'm glad as i think we paid over the odds for him, but i do think he's a good footballer and plays football the right way. shame he didn't have more pace.

they obviously didn't want murphy back lol.

Well someone's gotta be coming in now.....
Disappointed for Reid, he had so much potential, good luck at Charlton....

THANK ****!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This must mean we are buying a left winger?

Good deal to lose only one million on him and i wish him all the luck to re-establish himself! He may fufill his potential at Charlton by getting regular appearances as he must have some talent to originally be brought by us for 4million.
That should leave us 3 million more for our own left wing kitty and bodes well that we will sign a replacement in that position.

a good deal

no doubt, we have the money (Carrick,Reid,Mansion) to sign a world-class player

Welsh Spur
16th August 2006, 05:48 PM
I dont see it as losing anything, he and Dawson came in for a combined £7m and I wouldn't sell Dawson for that amount.

Bid £15million for MGP. Do it.

Feel sorry for Reid he never has a chance to settle before he got injured, we never saw him at his best, that said we must be getting someone for l.w. because he was the only natural left winger in the squad.

Is he such a great talent? £4million more than Berbie?

i'm surprised as charlton also had the right footed guy (who scored against us) think he was a gooner at some stage, although he is injured at present.
we still have ziegler, be great if he turned out to be good enough after all.

£3m for Reid fair enough deal hope he makes it @ Charlton, Think we'll be signing a L/M soon My monies are on Petrov to be a yid by the end of the transfer window.

I vote that we should send the 3mill and another 7 to Blackburn, and try to get MGP! But I also hope that Zielgler will get a big chance this season..

Well maybe i'm reading too much into it, but it happens the day after Martin Petrov lands in the country (or right next to it in Wales)...?

Maybe he is on the motorway motoring his way to the Lane right now...?

Well Spur, you seem to be ITK.

But if it doesn't happen then I'm sayin that we should make a statement of intent, and show were willing to get our man, MGP would be £15million well spent I think, pacy, skilful, dynamic, and more significantly, young.

I think you have to take into account that we got a mega good deal for Berbie. But I think you are right to question 15mil for MGP.

Not exactly sad to see him go but I think hes underrated and if given a chance, could of performed for us on the left side. Do you think he will start for charlton?

Thank f*ck he's gone! At Last! I am having such a good day - passed an exam, had a blinding job interview, England win 4-0, managed to get hold of an estate agent who knows what the f*ck they're doing, booked a plumber, builder and electrician and last, but by no means least, WE SOLD THE FAT ONE!!!! YEEEEEEEEEESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!

Sorry, don't know why it gives me such personal joy, but it does.

personally i think jol knows what we want and he would not sell fatty unless hes got someone lined up

I think you may be right there - "Andy, you're not getting any more games...". Can't seem him getting in ahead of Thomas at Charlton, especially given his fitness problems (and I'mnot just talking about his weight!!)

Oh, happy days...

3 Million for that fat, useless muppet is just as good business as 18 million for The Mullet. THat also means we paid about 4 million in the end for Dawson who has tripled in value.

What next Gardener to Reading for 2.5mil? Stalteri to Bolton for 4mil?

I think it's a good move all round. It's good for him too, I think he could do well if a team plays him in the middle. Whatever anybody says he's got great vision and passing ability which would be seen if he was playing in a three in the centre. He's too fat for the left wing, he hasn't got any pace and can't create any positions for himself to get crosses in which he is also good at.

Reid gone? Well there's a weight of our shoulders....

Here's hoping everybody's optimism is well founded and we have a dazzling new world class left-sided player by the end of the week...

I'm devastated. I mean no more pie eating jokes and who can we call fat boy now.

On a serious note I hope we get Downing or MGP in asap and obviously we're going to have to pay over the odds to get one of them, but either one would improve our starting 11 alot and 10-15 mil wouldn't break us.

Plus if we pay 10-15 mil for one of them and then qualify for the CL and win the Uefa Cup we'll get all our doe back and more.

Hmmm, that sounds like the Leeds United school of transfer management to me!

We shouldn't mess about with "IFs". Would rather we paid what they're worth. Having said that, I'm also looking forward to us parading a shiny new left winger at the Lane soon!

It's only Leeds United if your spending money you don't have, BUT we easily have at least 20 mil left in our transfer budget.;)

I don't believe in spending way over the odds just because you have a bit of cash. In principle it is not good and could lead to us being mugs in the future and also if we could strengthen the squad and team with one or two more sigings aswell it would maybe guarantee us a top four and even a title challenge.

This is a critical time for us, I wouldn't overspend on downing or pedersen. In my view downing is no better than ziegler anyway. I'm sure they are working their socks off to get the best buy they can and if not they will get the next best, but I hope and doubt they will spend over the odds on anyone.

the problem with having a big war chest as such , and everyone knowing about it , is that everyone ups their price when spurs come knocking , so unfortunatly anyone we buy now is going to be overpriced wether its a 3 m purchase or 15 m purchase .

That's what I was getting at and on top of that teams see us as a threat now and don't want to make us stronger so we'll have to pay over the odds now anyway.

MGP & Downing are proven quality in the EPL so if we spend 10-15 mil on one of them it would be worth while and balance the team out perfectly.

If we spend 10-15 million on Downing i will begin to question Yols ability as a manager.

According to "AS" we could sign Petrov for 5-6 million, i.e. twice cheaper than Downing...

Welsh Spur
17th August 2006, 10:35 AM
I've said it before and I'll say it again. Downing brings nothing to a football team, he has no skill, nothing. He's ****ing useless and is not worth £5million let alone £15million. I wouldn't want him here at any price, and seriously would be pretty disappointed if he was our 'big name' signing for the left. I'd rather have kept the pieman.

Chimbonda anyone?

Could you believe that yesterday Jewell 'warned' us that if we wait any longer, i.e after the season begins, Chimbonda's price could go UP, over £6million. What a ****ing nerve! Seriously deluded, I'm glad Levy is standing by his policy of paying what the player is worth, and in Chimbonda's case it's no more than £3.5-4million.

Billywhizz

Looks like Jewell is has the same train of thought as Tony Gale, ****ing demented idiot what a waste of ***** them two are, i've never heard of such a thing the price will go higher if you don't buy Chimbonda now, Look you dosey prick we don't want him, we've moved on and are now looking @ other players. you've been told once stick Pascal where the sun don't shine.

Did you see him for England yesterday? I watched the highlights with my old man and I said to him when richardson came on that he had done more in five minutes than Downing had done in the whole match.

I sooo wish we could sign Richardson! Is he likely to be a first team regular at United this year? I'd suggest not, with Giggs still playing - quick, Martin, get on the phone!!

Welsh Spur
17th August 2006, 04:10 PM
Agreed choda, Richardson did look lively and creative last night. Also I think he would make a good signing but the thing is Giggs hasnt got long left and I think the red faced one has got Richardson earmarked as Giggs' replacement!

Keanoldinho
17th August 2006, 04:28 PM
When Downing was on the pitch we scored 4 goals and he was involved in afew of them

When Richardson was on the pitch we didn't score any

Alot of people on these message boards seem to not rate Downing alot like Carrick before we bought him or Jenas or Keane or Defoe before we bought them

The point I was making was we're going to have to pay over the odds if we want a quality EPL proven LW because teams know it's the last piece of the puzzle and will balance us out perfectly.

I'll believe we're getting Petrov for 5-6 mil when it happens

Billywhizz

Hope it happens before the end of the transfer window £5-6m for Petrov fair enough, we will have to move quickly i belive Foirentina are sniffing around.
