View Full Version : O'Hara needs to shut up

Saying today he'll be a Pompey fan if we meet in the semis - he needs to learn to keep it shut. What happened to 'lifelong spurs fan'?? We're his parent club, not wise to say things like that.

He's trying to force a sale I guess. He wants to stay with Pompey? Fine, have fun in the Championship next year, until they sell you to another middling PL side for more cash.

Dont be harsh on the lad... he's been a key player for Pompey this season, playing some great football. He's trying to motivate his teammates for a match he in unable to play in.

He's showing loyalty to the team he's been playing and struggling with all season. He's just saying that he'll be a pro and give it his all, assuring the pompey faithful he won't have mixed feelings. That's to be lauded.

Apparently not, I believe it is part of the loan agreement.

Players think about there careers and fans think about there club.

absolutely mate.
Though I also get where Ginola Son is coming from , Spurs have dumped him at Portsmouth this season despite him not really ever letting us down, he wants to play in the final, he wont for us as Harry doesnt rate him enough to put a recall caveat in the loan agreement, despite doing it for much lesser players (Livermore and that other chap) .
We shafted him in the Carling final despite his efforts in getting us there, he doesnt owe Spurs anything

He just wants to play in the final is all. You've got to support the team you're playing for anyway, that's just common sense. I don't agree that we "shafted" him though. If you're talking about the Chelsea game then that was 2 years ago under a different manager, probably time to move on, and last year he got on as a sub and f*cked up his penalty - no excuses, it was terrible.

He's answering questions put to him by a reporter. He's not phoning up sports desks to let his views be known. You're about the 2nd fan I've read objecting to this, as against over 30 recognising the reality of the situation.
What exactly do you think his "station" is? Spurs's puppet-on-a-string?

i can understand why he would want to get a transfer. he been pompey's best player and harry calls back livermore and townsend from peterboro and mk dons respectively.
that just shows that he doesnt care about o'hara and wants a move. as a player you want to win things and whichever team you are playing for you are going to be cheering them on so it is not a surprise that he is saying this.

My opinion at the end of the day boss.
It has little merit. It can be summed up thus:
Anyone with any connection with Tottenham must sacrifice their life for the greater good of Tottenham, if it possibly conflicts with the future success of Tottenham.
Anybody with a life that conflicts with Tottenham's success will think, as I do, that my life and career is more important than the success of Tottenham.

But Harry isn't allowed to call him back. There is no clause in his loan contract to bring him back, otherwise I'm fairly sure we would have seen him a good while before we saw Jake Livermore.

yes and that was a pre meditated decision by Harry, nuff said.
Ginolas Son, I respect your views too mate and sort of agree with both points of view, When I say he doesnt owe us anything I meant hes done good for us many times and we've (Spurs management whoever that is) have treated him somewhat disrespectfully .
Wouldnt surprise me if Harry left that clause out on purpose to help his Pompey mate Peter Storrie in their quest for freedom from the tax wrangle

No
I'm talking about players out on loan, I'm talking about players still contracted to Tottenham. Its disrespectful to then hope we got knocked out of the cup so the team he plays for ON LOAN, the ones that do not own his overall contract can go on. He's a Tottenham employee so at the very least, just talk up Pompey's chances without denigrating Spurs.
Once he leaves the club he can say as he pleases
That's my view and I'm sticking to it.

Why on earth is this even a debate?
A player is on loan, he is asked a question about the possibility of his two teams meeting. He has to keep his present club, fans and team mates happy because he is not going to say 'oh I hope we lose to Spurs, COYS, stand up if you hate the Scum!'.
O'Hara clearly has commitment to us when he plays for us and in previous interviews. Back in January I was listening to him on Talksport and he said that all he wants to do ultimately is play for Spurs but he also wants first team football and understands the situation. He actually came across as very level-headed and genuine.
Questioning his commitment to the club is funny in my opinion.

He should keep both clubs happy.
It doesn't have to be a debate, I'm just saying my viewpoint. He shouldn't wish for the team that owns his contract to lose in the FA cup.

That's the unfortunate position he's in, and he might not even play for the club again, so he's as well to think about his own self-interest. Spurs's destiny is in their own hands, so it's not as if he's actively able to undermine us.

Personally I hope Jamie comes back, I think he's got a good future with us. But with Hudd coming into his own and Palacios being our rock, I can't see him being more than a squad player. All said and done, a footballer just wants to play every game so I wouldn't blame him at all for sticking with Pompey, Championship or no for the sake of playing football.
Otherwise you're just another overpaid lazy footballer warming the bench. I can't really see that of Jamie tbh.

I can only thank Pompey as a club because JOH has been fantastic for them and they have brought him on a bundle.
You can't ever judge Jamies commitement to this club, or infact any club he plays for. The passion he plays with for pompey is unreal, he wears his heart on his sleeve and deserves himself to play for Pompey at wembley.
Many fans are hypercrites, remember when Fraizer Campbell was standing with the united lot during the cc pen shootout? Spurs fans didn't like that but expect JOH to piss his own career aspirations to keep us spurs fans happy in a similiar situation.
Give the lad a break.

When asked the question, what is he supposed to say? He can wish all he wants for Spurs to be knocked out, but it's the players on the pitch that stop it happening.
You're naive in thinking he has to be neutral in what he says. It's possible he has also has information in advance that he's unlikely to be kept at the club next season. In the circumstances, what professional would say any different? The best outcome for JOH means the worst for Spurs.

That isn't karma, comments making us lose. Karma is an effect to restore balance and order, so unless you believe we've shafted JOH, that makes no sense. It's nonce sense.
I expect you'll be wearing lucky pants or some similar artifact tomorrow.
Thinking about it, karma could be a factor in the semi-final, Pompey without JOH knocking out Spurs. Did you think of that?

Assuming you were in the same position, and being mute wasn't an option, what exactly would you say?
I certainly wouldn't rely on being here for next season for the Spurs fans to love me. There's also a big gap between a pro player being a "true Yid" and a fan, like GS.

I think you have to be very careful in these situations, I know how JOH feels but he needs to more proffessional. Try not to elaborate or get yourself or offend you parent clubs fans.
The lad is a good squad player for us who could push for a starting place and the way he has impressed this season I'm sure he will get plenty of intrest if he chooses to leave.

If he plays for Spurs like he has for Pompey, Spurs fans will love him regardless of what he says now. If he shows as much improvement in this off season as he did in this past one, he could be a special player. And at 23, he still has room to improve.

No not all fans. Those wee comments stick in people's minds...particularly using the phrase 'desperate' for us to lose.
The fact of the matter is that fans want to believe the players care. They dont care as much as the fans, of course, but that doesn't mean it should be outwardly spoken. Its about having respect for your fans and some quite rightly wont love him to the same extent had he not made those comments or doesn't attempt to rephrase them at the very least.
Ok his position at Pompey comes first to him at the moment - thats totally fair enough. But Jesus have some repect for your 'actual' employers and fans alike given that there is a fair chance Harry will have him in the squad next season.
Maybe he knows there is little chance of being at Spurs next season and that gave him more freedom to say how he really felt when posed the question.

I doubt Redknapp is that petty. He probably realises that with Sandro coming in he would be a squad player at best with us, and unlikely to be in the first team. He could be our Darren Fletcher but it's unlikely he'd be happy with that.
Even so, a spot of diplomacy in these moments is usually advisable. Harry disregarded the first instance as Jamie being full of beans and nothing more. A second time, and with more gusto, and Harry's given a gentle public reminder.

I don't see anything wrong with his comments. I'm really only interested in attitude on the pitch which tells me what I need to know about the man's character. And his attitude is terrific, a priceless type of character if you ask me, one of the Jamie Carragher, Gary Neville, Darren Fletcher's of this world and we should bust our balls to keep him imo because he's a winner.
Having these characters is massive to team chemistry and they rub off on people around them. They also usually work their way right to the top of the game. I also think JoH has more ability than those three players and is a very intelligent midfielder the way he plays.
But to be as successful is asking a lot. However, I wouldn't put it past him and I'd love to keep him because I just couldn't bring myself to sell a lad like that.
Regarding his direct comments, I think he is just focused on the team he is playing for now and getting to wembley, which is what I'd expect of a great lad.
I expect him to try his best, I expect him to be positive for his teamates at his current club, I expect us to try our best and see how the result comes out. That is all right and proper.
If we are good enough we get through, end of story.
