Who the hell does this idiot think he is! It would be a comlete disaster to abolish the offiside rule. The novelty of 9-8 scorelines would wear off and all of a sudden that special feeling of seeing a goal fly in would evaporate. Not to mention it would undermine the truly great strikers we love to watch when any flipping jock can score, and believe it or not - all the debate it brings would be missed.
The offside rule makes both teams keep a certain shape on the pitch, its completely necessary from that point of view. Imagine two strikers just standing beside the opposition's goal keeper waiting for a long ball...ala Crouchy!!
It would ruin the game and the offside rule simply makes forwards excel in their movement and its fantastic to see someone make a fantasic run which in turn makes it a fantastic pass. A great pass needs two people's understanding in harmony.
This guy is a complete idiot, who puts these people in charge.

silly idea. there is naturally a lack of goals in hockey so it would suit a sport like that. but in football there is always some sort of big score. e.g 9-1 against wigan.

personally Id like to see a line across the pitch, say 10 metres from the halfway line or 15 from the penalty spot, and you can only be offside if youre goal side of that, open up the midfield a bit more , more passing, more skills, hate seeing people offside by the half way line

Well, it would certainly open up the game. It would play into the hands of the skillful, techinically gifted midfielders and forward going fullbacks. Lennon and Bale would flourish in such a game. I guess I could see that paying dividends via marketing. Then again, I don't see how the most popular sport in the world really needs much help there.
