He can be guilty of over playing at times, and although i dont think he is as good as he once was is still an asset and a good player to have in the squad. Playing him wide on the left doesn't help him either. I dont think we should sell him.

Lol, I think he is trying to say Davids is our best player and the sole reason for our rise in the league last season, he obviously doesn't get to many matches! ;)

davids needs to convince me yet after the second half of last season. his use of the ball is the biggest problem i have with him. as for hudds learning he needs to be in the team not bench warming.

Davids is a good squad player. His age is beginning to creep up on him and he, as most would agree, is not the player he used to be. However, I value him and think his mentality is superb and he can still do a great job as a squad player. I definately wouldn't sell him.

I agree that a team is more than just players, it's spirit too. But spirit doesn't have to come from an old man on the pitch, it can come from another old guy off the pitch (hint: usually frowns and folds arms). I don't see the point of Edgar playing in the Premiership games any more. Our boys are mature enough now. However, I think it might be beneficial to have him for the European games. We now have Berbatov, but he doesn't seem like the inspiring more-experienced teammate.

David's deserves some credit, I think he has earned another season for us. Remember the gutsy display against the scums last season. To say he is the reason for our rise is a bit false though. Everyone had something to do with the 5th place finish.

he got stupidly sent off against the scum which cost us the chance to win the game.

Who's balls were bigger than his that day?

In my opinion he deserves to be on the bench and to come on the pitch for jenas to help maintain a lead in the last 20 minutes or so. He may not be fit enough for a full game but maybe 20 minutes may allow him to give it all instead of conserving his energy and play like he used to. Just think how zokora and davids would look in the centre of midfield flying in everywhere with spurs ahead.... im sure it would be difficult for any team to attack.
Just want everyone to remember class is permanent!

Definately, if you couple that his error with Lee's versus United, erase them, we'd be playing CL Qualifiers now. Still, better not to dwell, but look to improve....and I think that's what we've done the pre-season, moving Lee over to his natural position and bringing in Assou-Ekotto. I seriously think that the only cause for concern is that darned left side.

Well, I wouldn't say it was solely down to Davids that we did well last year. But no doubt he was a major influence on the club and the team.
At the end of the day it was BMJ, and the big players at the club who got us a good finish.
I agree that Davids was a huge signing last year, a catalyst because of what he brings. You're right that he is a winner... and to point out his cv. I do believe he was probably the most important player (when you take the package of leadership, pitbull performances, helping the younger players and helping their confidence) at the club last year. However, I don't think we should lose sight of the massive contributions Keane, Lennon, Carrick, Robbo, Ledley and Dawson made.
He did have trouble with his fitness in the second half of last season, and he's not getting any younger, but he's still a great player to have in the squad. He'll be used only when fully fit this year as we now have another pitbull with that mentality in Zokora. BMJ was quoted recently as saying he really wanted to hold onto Davids and very happy he's staying. He understands the guys importance. I wouldn't pay much attention to fickle fans, who don't understand that he was playing last year at times through injury when he probably shouldn't have been (because of his importance to the side).

You've changed your tune. Before your biggest problem with him was his 'laziness' (which was down to him not being fit in the second half of last year).
And you said that you liked him in his first six or so games for the club. Those were the games when his passing was consistantly poor because he hadn't yet gotten used to the pace of the prem.
He did have one or two shockers in the second half of the season where he did nothing right but it was because he was so unfit.
I can't believe people want to bag Edgar Davids. How ungrateful. How much did we pay for him, how much has he given to Tottenham Hotspur?

Davids has been one of the best players of his generation, and like choda says, has given a lot to this club simply by joining. His presence at the club shows our ambition and is bound to help in luring big name players (zokora chose us over scum, berba chose us over manure).
His determination and commitment to Spurs is apparent, as you would have seen in the Scum derby at highbury, where he got sent off. He never gave up during that match and in the end his determination to drag us into the CL got him during that game and ended up getting sent off in frustration, but if he didn't give a toss, then why would he bother?
The guy is a PROVEN winner and like MJ says, has the mentality this young squad needs. Hopefully when he does eventually depart he'll leave behind a wealth of experience, and a squad challenging for honours on a yearly basis.
