Just to give those of you who have not had a chance to see the first team play in pre season a quick summory of how we played and how are new players got on.

Line up: Robbo (GK) Lee (RB) Akotto (LB) Dawson,Davenport (DC) Zokora (DM) Jenus (CM) Davids (LM) Lennon (EVERYWHERE!) Berbatov, Defoe (ST)

At the back we looked quite solid, both lee and akotto looked impresive going forward with davenport and dawson looking very strong at the back, winning every header and challenge. The only thing that i would comment on was davenports distribution of the ball, he may of been a little nervous - who knows. The second thing i would like to comment on was lee playing right back, all i have to say is who needs Chimbonda! Lee was awesome and he can actually cross the ball with his right foot.

Midfield - Davids played ok, Lennon was all over the park there was one point i even saw him covering at left back! Zokora for me the man of the match by miles, he was involved in everything. He looks strong, can tackle, header, pass, run with the ball. He was husstling players as soon as they got the ball and breaking up play and starting counter attacks - looks amazing, with him there i dont think we missed carrick one bit - amazing player. The only dissapointment for me was Jenus in midfield. Didnt do a lot apart from lose the ball a few times, would much rather see teemu tainio playing there or even Hossam Ghaly.

Upfront -

Berbatov played well, missed a sitter in the second half. Looked a little nervous but you can tell he has bags of quality, will score plnty. Defoe - we have our old defoe back, he was ecellent, he chased everything made runs and scored a typical Jermaine defoe goal.

Overall we played well, Real sociedad are not a bad team you know. Just cant wait now for the big kick off! Oh and for those of you who were asking about ziegler, whats happened where has he gone? Let me tell you he is still here and looking sharper than ever. (came on as sub and impressed.

Thanx Barnes for the match report! Nice to hear positive things about the team. I watched a clip of the goals, and I agree that the first goal had Defoe written all over it! I hope it's true what you write about Zokora, I think he's going to be a legend! The same goes for Berbatov once he learns the EPL game (5 minutes of the Bolton game will be enough I think) It's great if Lee can do the job at RB. I was also impressed with Ziegler when he came two seasons ago, and didn't understand why he was shipped out on loan but I guess that when Davids arrived had something to do with it. I can't wait till Saturday when I can see the team live on the telly! I'm very optimistic: Bolton-Spurs 1-4 :)

Glad to read a positive report by one who's actually there. I've always said that Zoko will be an improvement on Carrick, and that we're not so desperate at RB as Lee and Salty can play there depending on the opposition, and Teemu can also play there in emergency situations. So, unless a top notch guy is available at our valuation, it is prudent not to waste resources on mediocrity there. The same goes for the LW position if Ziegler can perform adequately there.

Good report. 3 things im excited about this season player wise at the minute:

- Lee at RB
- Hossam Ghaly
- Zeigler at LM

Has Ghaly started a game? It seems that he's only coming on for the last 15-20 minutes all the time. How would you compare him to Murphy ? It would look that we may sell one of them as from what I read, they're quite similar.

Im sure he started the Birmingham game, and as a right back against Celta Vigo... and I think he also started agianst Stevenage Borough.

I wouldn't say Murphy and Ghaly are similar. Murphy is obviously slow on the ball, doesn't run into open space much, and almost always uses long passes. Ghaly is exactly the opposite of that:
- he loves to dribble, but he also makes a lot of fast passes. if you watched the Inter Milan game, you can see how the pace of the midfield immediately changed since he was on the pitch.
- he makes good use of space, with or without the ball. he occassionly makes brilliant runs on the right flank, or into the box.
- his passes are those short Brazilian ones.

They're not similar at all, I'd say. And to be honest I do not understand why Murphy plays

I'll take your word for it as there's nothing like seeing him in action. We've not got one of the pre-season games here in Canada. I only get to read what others say. In fact if he can dribble and run with the ball, he's someone we need badly. If he can play wide on the left, so much the better.

i was very impressed with ghaly at the inter game, he came on late but immediately got to the pace of the game, tackling well and bringing impetus which we sorely missed. i think we have a really tough midfield, providing ziegler can play left wing we are covered.

I agree about Ghaly, has a lot of potential. I still don't understand why Murphy keeps coming on in these games - he doesn't seem to add anything to the team, and Ghaly has played much better when he comes on. Left wing is a real problem area though, as is Lee on the right - no one has the vision to spot him when he makes the runs! Time after time on Saturday he was out wide on his own, just needed someone with a bit of vision to pick him out. And JJ is pants at times.

i hate to add a redundant post, but i have to agree with that :D

i am sure that Lee would find the proper support after a little while. he needs more time in this position with Spurs, and the rest of the team need a couple of games with a stable squad to act as a well-oiled machine.

Thanks Barnes for the report!

So! Does this mean Lee could make the Right back position his own and did he do enough to hopefully keep Stalteri on the bench?

Will he remember to clear the ball rather than try to play it around his own box?:o

oh come on guys! we as Spurs fans should not be holding this against him forever. it was a mistake. the guy gives it 110% on the green. besides, leave something for the scum to do :p
