There's quite a good report on Spurscommunity where a few guys were watching and reporting/commenting from South Africa.

The game was dire until Defoe scored, when it brightened up and people got a bit more committed. Up until then we went though periods where we were camped in our own half, unable to string 2 passes together. On the new signings, all three played well. Zorkora is a great signing, just sat all game, snap in his tackle and a fantastic range of passing. Ekotto was very good going forward, although there were a couple of times in the first 30 mins where he looked dodgy defensively - did the hard bit winning the ball then knocked it 15 yards to one of their players etc. Berbs is a great target man, won a lot in the air, and linked up pretty well. He needs to be more selfish though - should have taken his last chance on his own, why did he try and put Ziegler in!!! On the rest of the team, Lennon was superb as usual, Robbo did nothing wrong, Davenport and Daws were solid, pretty much everyone played well once we went ahead.

Real Sociedad were a decent side, played a very high line and had us pinned back for long periods. That wasn't helped by how deep we were defensively. Defoe's goal opened things up more, but we looked stretched between defense and attack at times. We have a real lack of width on the left, which was a problem as Ekotto had no-one to link with (and he loves getting forward!). Our midfield switched around a lot, Davids was everywhere as usual, Lennon came inside whilst Jenas pushed wide.

Spot on Tom, need to short the L/M out badly other than that thought Berby is a great target man, Zokora awsome in front of the back four, they were a pretty decent side scored a great goal, Hudds looked alright when he came on produced a great cross field ball from left to right for Lee,

this man is going to be huge for us,only thing hes lacking is at times needs to be a bit more selfish, but that can be a good and bad thing so as long as he keeps scoring who cares

went to the game today and my god were we boring, supposed to be an attacking team? we had about 4 shots all game!!! and no-one was awesome, adequate is the word that comes to mind, berbatov looked lazy to me. good player but doesnt look sharp. when a cross was played into the box he was always 2nd best whereas a proven goalscorer like rvn would beat the defender.

ekotto looked good but sometimes tries to much showboating, he beats a player but then instead of the easy pass tries to beat him again and loses it.

jenas was simply awful today, lennon lost the ball alot, beat some defenders but never did anything with it.

i dont want to sound negative but im fed up with people praising the team when frankly they were toilet today.

sociedad escaped relegation by a point last year and although it was a friendly we should have created more chances, it was a shit game against a championship quality team.

So which is it, were we good or awful?

I agree we were pretty dreadful for the first 30 mins, but after we scored we played a lot better. I agree with some of your points - Lennon had little end product, Ekotto show-boated too much, but I have to say what did you expect in a friendly the week before the prem season starts? The players are hardly going to run the chance of getting an injury by over comitting to a meaningless fixture. Bare in mind as well that we had 5 players out, all of whom could look to start next week.

Overall I thought it was a good result against a competent team - they may have performed poorly last season but they still took points from Real Madrid...
