Hopefully this dents confidence even further and they drop more points in the prem. We really need to keep winning because when torres and gerrard are back fully fit they could easily go on a run like last season. They will probaby finish with a points total between 65-76 so we can't afford to slip up. There will only be a few points between us and the bindippers so we can't afford to go through a bad patch like we've just had (before the sunderland game I it was 7 points from 7 games. If we have a run like that again we will probably miss out on CL footie.)
It would great to see a firesale if they miss out on the CL next season.... Torres sold to real in the summer. :001_smile:

They only got what they deserved. I would be very surprised to see Rafa managing Liverscum in 2010.

If we could just have beaten Stoke then it really wouldn't have been so bad... losing to Arsenal and Chelsea away and Man U at home is par for the course, all the other results bar Stoke are pretty good. I'm still really annoyed about that Stoke one. We will have to beat them at the Britannia to make up for it - at least one of our competitors will lose there I'm sure. Also I just want revenge - and there's nothing like beating them in front of their own fans for that :001_smile:
Speaking of revenge, Wigan can consider themselves forgiven for that last minute winner last year :tongue_smilie:

Correct.
Torres will only leave if Rafa does. He'll never sign for Real or United.

He's on record saying he will never play for Real and sounded like he meant it. Has he done the same with United?

Yes, he has.

I think that we have a reasonable chance of fourth spot.Even with their full team back,Liverpool don't have that air of defensive solidity that they had last year.An early exit from the CL could of course galvanise their effort to get that fourth spot as so much of their finances, both team and future stadium wise, are based on qualification for the CL.

Am I right in thinking we have Liverpool away on the last day of the season again? If so, could be interesting!

We play Liverpool away on Sun 10 Jan.The last game of the season is Burnley away, which is not ideal in itself.

Torres would never sign for Real.
Hes Athletico at heart. That sort of means something in Spain (unlike here)
Rafa will have to get onto an amazing run for him to keep his job. In all fairness, as Ive said before - he is only one cream cake away from a heartattack anyway.

Realistically we have to be in fourth spot by the time the incredibly hard month of April comes around:
Sunderland, away
Arsenal, home
Chelsea, home
Man U, away
That is scary looking now.
Torres is just too injury prone, he will be in and out of the side for most of the season I think, but yes they are capable of a run but as Shelfside has pointed out, they are very suspect defensively at the moment. I think dropping out of CL will just eat away at their confidence even more. I will watch the Meryside derby on Sunday with great interest, as Everton arn't in great form and will no doubt lift their game for this one. Pitty they have so many players out though, but saying that we play them after Villa!

April does not look like much fun. I reckon we could end up with 4 points max but could easily end up picking up 0 points.

I've a good feeling we can get some good points out of these. Tbf, we were without Lennon, Defoe and Modric against Arsenal, provided we have them at our disposal, then we could get 3 points out of it, particualarly when we'll be at the Lane next time round also. Chelsea will be very tough, but again, if we have our key players, then with our home advantage, then we should be looking at at least a point, the same with Sunderland. The only one i have worries over is United at OT, we never do seem to get many points there, and they'll probs be geared up for trying to grab as many points as they can, if they wish to defend the title.

OT is the ground where we have our worst away record. I suppose a lot of clubs can say the same.

Our record at Arsenal can't be much better surely?

Our record at Arsenal can't be much better surely?
Our last win at Arsenal and Liverpool was in 1993.Our last win at Chelsea was 1990 and as Earl points out,Old Trafford remains our longest remaining bogey ground. We last won there in 1989.Although that season,we actually won there twice in the space of two months, once in the League Cup and once in the league.
And it is this inability to win away at at least one of the 'Sky four' that stops us being taken seriously as contenders for that fourth spot. It's great to see five goals put past Hull and Burnley and even better to see nine put past Wigan, but the true measure of an aspiring side is how they can play against the top four at their own grounds. And the two away matches this season at Arsenal and Chelsea really didn't inspire confidence that we can win away against these sides.

Don't panic. We did it consistently last season with a worse team, and have already beaten one top four side this season - and I remember years going by where we celebrated our draws against the top 4 as we expected nothing.
We'll get at least one more result this season.

So does that mean he will keep his promise. They are only words after all.

He strikes me as someone that has two clubs deep in his heart, one in England and one in Spain. I remember seeing an interview with subtitles when he was at Athletico and he spoke with clear intelligence and like he was very clear on where his heart is. So I would be very surprised and disappointed actually if he joined a bitter rivals team after being so clear in his words and intentions.
