It's been reported on BBC Sport that John Terry has been apponinted new England captain.

Suprise, suprise. It was never going to be anyone else after it was revealed that Terry gives the team talks before a game. (So what did Sven actaully get paid for??????)

bit disappointed really. i thought he had an average world cup and he lacks the pace required for an international defender. It also means ledley's chances are reduced. As a spurs fan i would love to see ledders do well for england, but maybe if he's sat on the bench he can't get injured. Also i think we've plumped for someone he commands fight rather than football skills and i think we need more of the latter. I'm sure he'll do well but i'd have gone for gerrard.

Me too, I think that midfielders (not always) make better captains, as they are more involved. I'm not disappointed, but I would have chosen Gerrard.

not really bothered , either would have been ok , though i agree terry shouldnt be a cert to be picked when all the c.d are fighting fit . my only worry about gerrard being made captain would have his tendancy to try and do too much , be all over the pitch and thereby we loose the shape of the team , which he can get awy with at liverpool but not at international level
