The spurs fans never got behind him so I think it affected him when he stepped up. To be honest the way he was rated here was a bit ridiculous. He's not an amazing forward (take a bow Torres), but he is a very good goalscorer.

I mean the fans took Defoe to their hearts before he was near top class and was equally frustrating as a player. Fans just seem to love, 'getting your shots away' and a hammer shot even if it is always a case of head down and repeated selfish shooting at huge expense of the team and scoring as a team. Defoe is miles better than he was, but that is how he used to be.

Bent is a reliable penalty taker and a really cool finisher so he must have bottled it a bit.

He deserved to miss, his conduct all through the protracted transfer saga was a disgrace. Not only to his employer, but to Hull and Stoke whom he dissed on Twitter.
