Is this man the next spurs manager?

The way Wigan are playing is really fantastic, he is getting them playing beautifully and if you can master that and add work rate and organisation, it is more effective than anything. He'll do well to surpass a top half finish which is the path Bruce was heading for but he looks a special manager.

Early doors but if I were Levy I'd have a very firm eye on Roberto Martinez and what he does with Wigan. Harry is no spring chicken and he may only be here for a few years.

Martinez could be just the man and he'd be a hero with our fans if he got us playing football like that, winning and reaching our potential.

Something tells me this guy is the next Wenger without the extra stubborness and rigid tactics. Could be wildly wrong, but he strikes me as someone that knows exactly what he is doing and what football is about.

Wigan are playing the type of football we thought we were going to get under Ramos, but didn't for what ever reason due to the language barrier or what ever.

Just to reiterate what I was saying in the other thread - I think he is doing really well and its very noticable the way he has Wigan playing a good passing game on the deck and the way they press off the ball. Been very impressed so far but we will see how he progresses and develops as a manager. The early signs are extremely encouraging and his footballing philosophy certainly wouldn't be out of place at Spurs. More experience needed at this level though, a lot more.

Wigan played good football under steve bruce, but considering Martinez has taken over a club who have lost some key players in palacios and cattermole he has done fantastic.

He was known for his attacking management style at swansea, he pushed his wingers so far up the pitch it looked like they had four forwards! Ian Dowie said watching a Swansea game that his tactics in the championship shouldn't work, but credit to him as a manager that he was able to pull it off.

A future spurs manager? Well its only 9 games into the season, when Harry does go which I hope isn't in the next 5 years (if all is well) then maybe he is a candidate if he continues to progress e.g Mark Hughes.

Well done to Martinez but he hasn't even proved himself as a premiership manager, its like the Roy Keane syndrome again. So for me he needs to keep this consistency going for a few seasons before he can manage a club like us.

I agree with Turkish, it's a bit premature to be talking about Matínez, not only because Harry should be around for a good few years, but also because Martínez is less than a third of the way in to his first premiership season. Yes, they've been playing nice looking football, but while they beat Chelsea, they have been missing out on quite a lot of points.

I go to quite a few Swansea City games and they were outstanding under him, totally outplaying everyone in the division,
Will go on to bigger and better things this lad will,

As Michael Madsen once said "Well we'll just see, won't we?"

Although I think Dave Whelan may actually declare war on N17 if we pinch anymore for his prized assets of him :001_unsure:

Well, Roy Keane isn't dead yet, he still did a good job at Sunderland and he might turn things around in his management career.

It is early with Martinez, I'm just saying so far it has been awfully impressive on a very limited budget and losing three or four massive players for Wigan. And he's gradually progressed his career with little money to spend and year on year has done well.

I think they will finish 10th which considering the league and his resources would be excellent.

Sure, of course they have dropped points, but it takes time. This is WIGAN. The main thing you have to consider is he's lost Palacios, Valencia, Heskey, Zaki. They were huge players for Wigan.

Bruce is a very good manager and he finished mid table with a startlingly good team for Wigan and stronger man for man (at least now) than the one Martinez has.

He had to deal with that and build his own philosophy which is starting to take fruition now. They are midtable and look like finishing mid table which is excellent for the resources he has.

And if he builds the club in the manner he has been doing, keeps improving the players and buying well the football they play could imo even pass out teams like Villa, Everton, even Sunderland and challenge the big six in a more convincing manner. They couldn't live with possession football and can't punish teams the way teams with lots of quality possession can.

Maybe that is asking too much of a club like Wigan but the world's your oyster if you can play football the right way.

There were numerous times against City where they were passing them off the pitch and dominating proceedings and the gulf in resources is ridiculous. Very impressed.

With ten men City were hanging on for dear life and getting pounded by the kind of football Wenger instills.

He's found a few gems in Thomas and Diame in the middle of the park as well on first glance.

And he's bought in some real pace and power to go with the football. It's a bit like the old Wenger Arsenal but I also like the way he also has width in the team (something that has always delightfully put a cap on Arsenals progess, particularly in europe where the opposition keep possession and you can't break down the middle all day).

I like Dave Whelan, he's a remarkably fair-minded and pragmatic soul even when his squad and management structure is being shot to pieces.

He takes responsibility, knows the realities of football for a smaller club and knows part of his job is finding an adequate replacement and doing more good deals for players.

My dad's a massive Swansea fan and I went to see them a few times under Martinez. He goes even further - he sees this Prem job as the stepping stone to the Real or Barca jobs. I was extremely surprised when Wigan had a shaky start to the season but yeah they look good now.

He has brought in power up front with the likes of Scotland etc. He knows exactly how to play against prem clubs and has a great vision for the club. Cant fault his ethics.

Maybe in the next couple seasons or so we will see just how good he is!

Couple of kinks to be ironed out.

Are wigan the new spurs is a better question? Beat Chelsea 3-1 then get beaten 9-1 by their shitter (sorry) rivals!

Also won convincingly at Burnley and Villa, yet got hammered at Pompey.

They are still VERY up and down. I still think he will be do well and is an excellent coach but it's going to take more time to bed a philosophy that is unheard of at smaller clubs in Britain.

Some major kinks to be ironed out, a team that can beat Chelsea should never lose 9-1 and even 4-0 to the bottom team (granted I don't think they will stay bottom, but still).
