I was just wondering what my fellow spurs supporters think of Sir Alan Sugar and his performance when he was in charge at the Lane.
Granted there were many dark days for example, no big money signings, Christian gross and that former gooner (I can’t say his name it hurts too much!!!)
On the plus side he did save us from going bust, made the financial situation stable and did sign Jurgen twice.
For me when he was in charge I didn’t care for him to much but you can’t deny he is a fantastic business man.
Now I kind of like him in his TV programme the Apprentice and will be turning over at 9 tonight instead of watching the second half of Boro and Charlton.
Anyway please let me know what you think, cheers.

gutted yes but we made a shed load of cash from him which ultimately saved us from financial ruin. We had a long debate about this on the old board and I'm firmly a fan but please get him off the bloody telly

I hate this whole "Sugar saved Spurs" crap - he is a businessman, saw an opportunity to invest and took it. The amount of money he paid off (£20mm) is laughable given what happened next - Chelsea regularly pay more than that for a single player, let alone a club! If he hadn't done it, someone else would have. Possible suitors at the time included Maxwell, that upstanding citizen, who could have financed a bid by, er, raiding the mirror group pension fund?

Tom - don't want to repeat our previous conversation but the media, football and transfer markets have all transformed out of recognition in recent years - Sugar is no Abramovic and £20 million was a lot of money. We were on our knees post west stand development and he stepped up to the mark. Sure he's a businessman and wanted a return for his money - tell me a chairman/owner that doesn't but he also wanted to put something back into the local community. Don't forget that ENIC have only invested £23 million in the equity of the club (30%) and Sugar is still a major shareholder

Still not buying it! Listen, this thread has been done to death numerous times before, there's blatently two camps - "I hate Sugar" and "Sugar saved Spurs", and never the twain shall meet. I'm firmly encamped in the former...

im a big sugar fan, he got things done and did save and stabilise the club, yes he made a mistake in appointing Christian Gross but did rectify the situation by bringing back Jurgen Klinsmann. and above all he has stayed around after enduring a lot of bad times with the fans and problems at the club, the man's a hero

Me too, but not just to be awkward, just because I can see sense in both arguments.
